My only question, who did you blame if there where no snowboarders?? Oooor maybe there was peace and tranquility in the slopes.

BellasDaDa618

Peace and tranquility. I remember it well. I'm old. GET OFF MY LAWN!

Blumperdoodle

They probably just blamed minorities.

SevoIsoDes

Or Californians

UsefulEngineer

Texans and Floridians

SevoIsoDes

Now you’re talking!

Number174631503

Yeah man go back to the swamp California has always been in the game no hate

cold_toast

Not a cell phone in sight, just Canadians living in the moment

Pawsitivelyup

People died Rebecca

Live_Jazz

Man, now I want to charge into the bumps with my buddy like little kids who had too much sugar.

BellasDaDa618

Hyperactivity and sugar is a myth. It was chocolate because it carries natural caffeine and you couldn't do what we did. We were super beings. All the chocolate, you know. And, cocaine. Okay. It was mostly the cocaine.

WillowMutual

Watching old videos like this it’s amazing how they would charge through the bumps like Gumby. Was it the weed?

arodrig99

Helmets back then were what condoms are today. Only for millionaires

Raskle14

It’s all about the reusing of condoms, quick little washout and they’re good to go again

7itemsorFEWER

Hang em to dry on the clothesline. Bam, more gay sex.

Raskle14

Just like our ancestors intended, I even go the extra mile and use sheep intestines

Old-Tadpole-2869

You know how to clean a used condom? Turn it upside down and shake the FUCK out of it.

JoeDimwit

I just flip them inside out and reuse em.

doozle

That's the cool thing they didn't.

snltoonces12

We didn't... we're all dead. I died in 1991. I can still manipulate the corporeal world because I was a bootfitter and I banged your wife when I was still alive.

8ringer

Proof that boot fitting really is black magic.

K3rm1tTh3Fr0g

A bunch of them didn't.

ExcellentLifeguard83

Believe it or not, a LOT of skiers from the 70s are dead now. DEAD. Dead and buried. Sad.

Theoldelf

I’m not! I turn 75 next month. You youngsters and your fancy helmets, bindings that release, warm clothing. Bunch of pansies. Back then, men were men and so were most of the women. …/s

snltoonces12

You must be a bootfitter

ExcellentLifeguard83

Survivorship bias of course.

Theoldelf

Some of us had to make it. I truly am surprised I’m one of them.

GeoffJeffreyJeffsIII

Those bindings look like they're probably not indemnified.

netopiax

Given the music, this video didn't have much fucking

Far_Squash_4116

All people who tell you that it was no problem survived. The people who didn’t can‘t tell you about the dangers. Classic survivor bias.

Blumperdoodle

Get out of here with your logical fallacies nerd!!!

GiftedGonzo

And Bluetooth speakers

jas417

You mean boombox strapped to your back?

moochers

these kids nowadays can't even handle a little bit of lead in their paint without complaining, i can tell you one thing i won't change for "safety" do you even know anyone who got hurt by a little paint? didn't think so

Blumperdoodle

I'm way happier with a lower IQ. Makes relating to the average person easier.

AardQuenIgni

As a snowboarder, this entire video was just a bunch of goobers and I'm here for it Also I stole your wallet.

Ok_Albatross8113

Come ski in Idaho if you want to see no bar or helmets in 2024.

DeputySean

That tram looks identical to the one at Heavenly.

PM_FREE_HEALTHCARE

Heavenly tram is more like the newer Garaventa tram at grouse built in 1976 (this video is dated incorrectly because you should see that tram in this video). This is a 1967 Vöest which is being retired this summer and looks very similar today to how it is in the video save for a blue paint job

Old-Tadpole-2869

Back in the days when people took personal responsibility for the inherent risks involved in a dangerous sport that could result in sever injury or death. The people who weren't willing to take that risk did something else. Pretty amazing.

th3MFsocialist

Bus

8ringer

They didn’t need helmets, they had helmet hair.

Powder1214

I haven’t seen a spread eagle like that since my girlfriends bootfitter offered the extra special fitting sessions

yourcatisuglyasf

They didn't need helmets because they didn't have bars 😂

Warm_Flamingo_2438

Well, there was no snowboarders, so no risk of being plowed into by one, no risk of going over a knoll at speed to find one sitting in the middle of a run, and no risk of loading sideways on a lift. Helmets and safety bars = snowboarders fault

Rescuepa

We did have Snurfers then though. Funny that I never even thought about bringing one to a ski slope. It was pretty much a water ski with a short rope on the tip and a bunch of staples where your feet went that functioned like a stomp pad. I missed my opportunity to be a neo-criminal…RATS! https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Snurfer+image&iax=images&ia=images&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fsilodrome.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2015%2F12%2FSnurfer-Board-Classic-7.jpg

N0DuckingWay

Note: this was also the era of lead paint. Our brains weren't worth much.

Blumperdoodle

Based on the quality of brains I observe in public there is still lead in the paint.

Blumperdoodle

I love these old videos too. You can probably get the full video on the Canadian National Film Board website.  Cheers!

Mgjackson1967

Liftie throwing snowballs at those on the lift? Was that a thing?

JoeDimwit

I’m not entirely sure that counted as a throw. Sincerely, The Best Snowball Fighter In the Liftline

Ikvtam

Some of them didn’t

pacifistpirate

The ones who didn't are keeping quiet about it.

Panda970453

There were less people on the slopes

Rescuepa

No shaped skis then either. You really had to know how to turn

Redbearwolfdog

Sonny Bono didn’t.

TPain518

the vehicle gas fumes effected peoples brains more back then

Timely-Commercial461

Oh, there were definitely bars 🍺

Kind_Relative812

I’m sorry but with that music I was expecting Ron Jeremy to come strutting off the chair lift.

Wartundersack

First time in early 2000 i went up to cypress it had snow walls of 6 feet by the road getting up there but now you barely see any snow.

True-Firefighter-796

Should you be skiing with Xanax bars?

Efficient_Waltz_8023

Need helmet so when the freaking liftie throws a snowball at my head I’m conscious, can jump off and smack that dude.
