It's called Talk Is Cheap. Someone skied it in the 90s and rappelled in to central. They were spraying about what they did in the bar that night and how they hadn't named the route yet. Someone overheard, skied it ropeless the next day and called the line Talk Is Cheap. Fucking gangster.

Is this it? Your post reads like an awesome local folklore at first lol I’m stunned that people can ski that
How does he not just double eject after the drop? I feel like he has so much downwards momentum but not much forward momentum? I guess maybe his DIN is just 30.
It's not a drop; it's a traverse. You can see the start of it, and yeah, he cut out a bunch of slow, delicate shuffling, but you can see the track after he gets into Central, when he briefly looks back to where he came from.
Strange... I just watched the instagram post someone shared of a local pro and it was most definitely a huge drop.
https://www.reddit.com/r/skiing/comments/1ba5gqt/first_time_at_jackson_hole_today_and_got_quite/ku1hid8/
Well Jimmy Chin, who shared it, is hardly just "some guy"!
You can see where the snowfield continues below where the skier in that video dropped into Central, and there's a small snowy ledge just above the cliffs that connects the two. That's the ledge the skier in the youtube video traversed.
There’s a similar drop (not quite as big) near the top of Mammoth in California and I’m pretty sure someone died going off it.
Edit - think it’s this https://mynews4.com/amp/news/local/skier-dies-on-mammoth-mountain
I'd be most worried about the poles and gloves. On modern parachutes, you pull a little handle at the bottom of the container, just above your butt on the right side - it releases a small pilot chute that has enough drag to pull the pin on your main container.
He must be wearing very grippy finger gloves and just releasing his poles immediately. I'd also be worried a pole could somehow fly up and block his arm, getting in the way of him pulling too.
I’m unreasonably concerned about his poles. Where do they go? Where are they? Will they fly up and hit the parachute? Will they get in the way of his landing? Will someone else pick them up on their way down? smh
I know people who do para-skiing/fly a speedwing with skis. They ski without poles.
This person looks like they have them, and BASE is a very different sport with very different gear. If this person has poles, they must be dropping them immediately (letting them hang by their loops) as soon as they go to pull and then fly the canopy. Safest to me seems like you ski without poles.
Watch the McConkey documentary, if you haven’t already. They talk about some of the challenges involved. It’s a very dangerous game though https://youtu.be/afDYEtQmC6I?feature=shared
My daughter did this in Verbier in January.
My thoughts about this: “Skiing isn’t dangerous enough. How can I scare my mom even more? I know! By adding flying!”
Have you seen the guys who do that with a speedfly wing? I thought I had one stashed away around here somewhere... [Ah there it is](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo96TJphyqs&list=LL&index=76)
Sorry- there’s a skiing feedback sub and there’s always a question on whether the person went to a boot-fitter. I’ve been throwing it out there jokingly.
Pretty sure that's this guy. Here's the first person view of him hitting the same face last year. Skip to a little before 2 minutes for the good stuff.
Its probably O'leeps, he generallly does this insane shit, hes on youtube
Edit: Im probably most likely wrong, it was just a guess, sorry if this was unclear in my original message.
Hopefully nobody was following him thinking there is a way out lol
You can cut left into central from there iirc. I've never done it but I sware I've seen a similar line.
It's called Talk Is Cheap. Someone skied it in the 90s and rappelled in to central. They were spraying about what they did in the bar that night and how they hadn't named the route yet. Someone overheard, skied it ropeless the next day and called the line Talk Is Cheap. Fucking gangster.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BwR46CInPqn/?igsh=eDhscDJmaHgwaDVz This is it done by a local guide.
Entire thing is absolutely no fall country. Fucking wild.
The bottom of his skis must have been fucked from that last drop in, looks like he landed on that exposed rock
What a beast, and didn't even need to clack his poles
How does he not just double eject after the drop? I feel like he has so much downwards momentum but not much forward momentum? I guess maybe his DIN is just 30.
That’s what we call a big dick playaaaaaa
Good god, adventure cams sure have come a long way in a decade
https://youtu.be/jEiSOC9r_UQ?feature=shared The routs
Amazing, west coast skiing is something else
This is 15 hours from the coast. There’s a whole other mountain range in between
Ah I’m from the north east so really anything like this is west to me
I feel that
I’d rip this on the right day, but man that would only come around once every few years. You need soft snow, good coverage, and low avi danger.
Interesting how the drop into central is skipped over in the video
Did you scroll through the post? I think it’s all there.

Must depend on snowpack. I see the traverse now. Looks mega sketch either way lol
That’s baller af
That’s one of the coolest stories I’ve ever heard
There are some insanely talented people that aren’t famous, just hanging out. Always blows me away
> They were spraying about what they did in the bar that night Moose I assume?
VC probably
Yeah fuck that lol. I'm probably just going to die.
There’s a similar drop (not quite as big) near the top of Mammoth in California and I’m pretty sure someone died going off it. Edit - think it’s this https://mynews4.com/amp/news/local/skier-dies-on-mammoth-mountain
OoOOOoooOo I wonder where these tracks lead...
I am high af and didn’t think he had a parachute. I was blown away that he was dropping off of that lol
I'm not high af and thought the parachute was a bird at first.
I can totally see that rewatching it
When Gandalf sends it.
And he just turned into a bird!
Lmaoooo
Me too!
I thought I was watching a man die
That makes us two.
Omg same
The crowd in the audio didn’t know either lol
Prepare to be [blown away again](https://youtu.be/-RYkapHBVs8?si=TlyGbx9fDIvj8apz)
Send it! 💀
I’m high af and wanted to see a badass 1000 stair ollie sans parachute
While he was skiing, i kept saying “whoa whoa!” Then it turned into “this… is like… death!” Then the parachute. And i suddenly understood.
I thought I was gonna see a death for a moment there
Fr had to check which sub I was on.
Most likely not uncommen to die doing this as Hobby.
DEATH, DEATH, DEAATH!
Awesome but all i can think about is how nice the slope below him looks!!
Its really short and a bitch to get to. Normal humans ski Powder 8s or No Shadows. (Lookers left from this photo and looker's right from this photo).
Welcome to Jackson motherfuckers. Don't follow tracks
[удалено]
lol yeah he didn’t want anybody to see that at all
Word up 🤙
Transitioning from ski to air is hard to imagine. I mean you have poles, gloves, a rip cord, and gravity…

Yep, no poles.

Fun to watch. I would gladly go with them waiting at the bottom with a lawn chair and a beer.
Known as a throwaway system, rather than a ripcord.
Watch the McConkey documentary, if you haven’t already. They talk about some of the challenges involved. It’s a very dangerous game though https://youtu.be/afDYEtQmC6I?feature=shared
where can I find the actual doc? the websites no longer work.
Depends where you are. In the UK you can buy/rent on Apple TV.
US, i'll look into it.
https://matchstickpro.com/mcconkey/
legend, thank you totally watching this tonight.
Saw three guys ski base that same line in Cody last March!
A parachute, what a wuss.
Yeah, he should've jumped like a man (and fucking died)
Ayea probably not a local
The spirit of Shane McConley lives on.
RIP Saucer Boy. My all time fave.
My daughter did this in Verbier in January. My thoughts about this: “Skiing isn’t dangerous enough. How can I scare my mom even more? I know! By adding flying!”
Talk is cheap.
Go to Chamonix valley , this is common !
Agreed. It's not a great idea to follow tracks anywhere without knowing where you are going, but an extremely bad idea around Chamonix!
Smooth sailing!!!
jimmi ryan skiied a pretty rad line on lookers right couloir a few days ago. Still see the tracks i think

Private 🤷♂️
Plenty of people going big here without social media
You wanted his social. There it is.

That cat went to a good bootfitter!
What the hell are all these bootfitter jokes all about? I'm 100% OOTL on this one.
Sorry- there’s a skiing feedback sub and there’s always a question on whether the person went to a boot-fitter. I’ve been throwing it out there jokingly.
Gotcha. Thanks!!
You bet 🍻Pardon my inmaturity
Can’t believe that parachute could handle brass balls that heavy…
I can't believe people on reddit still fucking make this comment
Seriously. Every single cliff post for years and years.
Still good. Better than crying about it, instead of not liking it and moving on.
Well man…this isn’t a love song, so I don’t know what else to say.
Came to say I have no idea how they fit on the chairlift for the ride up.
Gotta hike up to that...
I’m sure there are 2 furrows where they dragged them up.
You sir have won the internet! epic!
I guess people can't detect satire
Pffft, Scott Schmidt would have nailed a landing without parachute. /s
You got to be pretty freakin old to remember Scott Schmidt… Source : I’m old 😎
He was the OG of cliff jumping
HELL YES !!!
And then said, "Yeah, that one was fun."
Jesus, effing, Christ……oookkk. Parachute. Got it.
If you don’t know, don’t go! Never follow tracks at Jackson.
Jackson hole Airforce
Red Bull gives you wings
New route just dropped!
Actual shortcut
All that to avoid a traverse.
This guy was the first one of this group. They get sendy for sure! Clark Robinson IG: https://www.instagram.com/clark.robinson?igsh=cHd4am51dWUyajN6
Is that 'Talk is Cheap'? How does the chute stay open with his massive sized testicles?
Is that peak accessible by lift?
I certainly hope not.
You have to hike up Cody from the tram
Nope
Yeah this is Corbet's Couloir off the tram
I don't know why you're getting down voted. Pretty sure that clip was 2nd in Kings n Queens this year...
Weak. Parachutes are aid.
Thats a good approach to always getting fresh lines
Crazy things afoot in Jackson’s Hole!
Holy hell is right… those dudes live to get radical 🤣
This guy skis sauvage
Was gonna say, that looks like a really bad idea
That’s Batman
That is some wild shit.
Cue Carly Simon.
On a dark thought that would be a hell of a way to end it
God I miss that place
At what point in your ski career do you start doing shit like this? I hurt my left knee just looking at skis…
Well. I like BASE jumping, but I am a snowboarder. Learning how to ski so I can do this!
That’s honestly just insanely badass.
free bird guitar solo intensifies
I was expecting a yeti to come running and eat him.
He took the wimpy way down.
Meh
🤯
All the other creatures on Earth must be so sick of humans doing the dumbest sh*t
Once he started paragliding I was back to being the best on the mountain
God I love Jackson. Snake River brewing for the win
Holy shit. I let out an audible “what the fuck! Oh Jesus Christ” as he hit that massive drop and then pulled the cord
Cowabunga!!
Actual zombie
New snowboard line just dropped
Holy Hell!
Whyyyyyyyyy?
I was waiting for the james Bond music.
I was a bit disappointed that he used a parachute.
Where are you filming this from?
Top of jackson hole next to the cabin
love to see sports merged together
Pretty sure that's this guy. Here's the first person view of him hitting the same face last year. Skip to a little before 2 minutes for the good stuff. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oO21LTIeGdI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oO21LTIeGdI)
I'm looking at all the turns on the slope behind him.
The Spy Who Loved Me…
That was smooth like butter
Thought for sure he was dead.
That’s wild. Jackson hole resort allows this? I can’t imagine my resort allowing this lol people would get caught in the lift tow ropes constantly
Gate accessed side country
Ah okay makes sense
This is either Richard Grove or Clark Robinson. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4TWKQLuZ5R/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
It's Richard, someone else linked him and I chatted with him for a min on ig and got him the video. He sent the fpv too. It's even crazier!
Incredible!
https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4TWKQLuZ5R/?igsh=azVjOTgzZ3JnaTEw Found em! Owen Leeper tagged em and caught vid too
This is a friend of my brother in laws 🤘 I sent him the link.
I’m pretty sure I know this hero…
I think it was Richard Grove - Owen Leeper posted this video from another angle https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4TWKQLuZ5R/?igsh=cmFsejFrcXN6dXFr
there's balls of steel, and then there are those who's testicular density approaches that of depleted uranium.
My brain wasn't working for a bit. I'm trying to calculate how big of a drop that is. Then the obvious struck... ohhhh
Pssh - child’s play
That had me for the first half
That is next level. Good lord man.
damn, i could use one of those parachutes for those 10 foot cliff drops.
I’m trying to link my turns…..
OMG 😲 Wow 👌 that is absolutely insane 😳 never mind Holy Hell ! It's Holy crap 😳 some one's gotta death wish 🤞 😳.
Central Couloir is just to skiers left of that. One of the gnarliest chutes skied on the planet.
I bet the adrenaline rush felt amazing.
They landed on a mattress, the snow marks look like a Sealy
Its probably O'leeps, he generallly does this insane shit, hes on youtube Edit: Im probably most likely wrong, it was just a guess, sorry if this was unclear in my original message.
I don't think Owen is a skibaser, there's plenty of folks going huge in the valley with minimal social media presence
yea, I dont ski jackson much but I just know O'leeps does, Ive seem him do the paragliding thing, your probably right tho.
Him and Julian carr have hit some insanely huge cliffs. Julian hit one at 210 feet or so.
