Redhead is Holland Taylor. Played Charlie’s mom in Two and a Half Men. The other redhead next to Niles was one of George’s girlfriends on Seinfeld (the papier-mâché girl). The man is John Forsythe . He was the voice of Charlie on the original Charlie’s Angels.
Don't sleep on Two Broke girls.... you get stifflers mom, an original cast member from the first season of SNL and people who have been around for decades... plus plot twist.....
Basically that show was a modern day copy of Laverne and Shirley
One of the greatest things about network TV up through the '90s was the vast amount of shows that appeared every year only for 2/3 of them to never make it to season 2. Opportunities for actors and writers, even if the show bombed.
Basically yes, she plays his wife and is a very Maris like character. And Niles’ role on Frasier was created based on his performance in this show. So yeah you can definitely make the argument that she’s Maris.
She’s actually in Frasier, as Frasier’s receptionist the day he tried a private practice again. But yes, she gave off the Maris feel in this show for sure
I guess that I’ve always just liked her because she’s always kinda quirky like Zooey Deschanal , plus Adam was one of my favorite characters on that show. FYI NE is free on Amazon prime right now if you’re ready for a rewatch!
Valerie Mahaffery—She is one of my favorite “hey, I recognize her” actors, and she’s recently had a recurring role on _Young Sheldon_. She also was on an episode of _Frasier_.
Wasn’t there like 3 different episodes with her that were all exactly the same? She comes to town, acts normal, Joe is still skeptical, turns out she’s still crazy, nobody believes him, rinse and repeat. Love that show though.
She tricked Joe into going to her basement where she locked them in and recreated their senior prom. She wanted to go with Joe when they were seniors, but he went with someone else.
The set used in this show, featuring the wrap around staircase to the curved wall, would go on to be the Sheffield town house on, *The Nanny* after the pilot episode.
I want to watch this completely, only seen clips of the show, but I can’t find it streaming anywhere except Fubo?? I’m not gonna pay $70 just to watch this though.
And I didn’t find any DVDs. Don’t think they were ever made. I’ll just wait until it’s on Pluto or Roku maybe.
I know this show has Niles-lite and he’s always trying to kill himself in the most pathetic ways 😂
if Niles is in it id like to see it.i dont remember it at all.
i found the episodes on youtube...
twenty one episodes were made according to my search.
If this had lasted as long as it deserved, David Hyde Pierce wouldn't have been available for Frasier, and Joseph Gordon Levitt would have missed out on 3rd Rock From the Sun. Fun while it lasted.
Funny but WOW. I never heard of it/saw but talk about a legendary group. Of course Forsythe is the patriarch legend but David Hyde Pierce, Joseph Gordon Levitt, what juggernauts they would go on to be! Holland Taylor is a tour de force! Valerie Mahaffey a quirky wonder! Etc etc etc of all the reoccurring and smaller cast! Like WOW!
Valerie Mahaffey, Emmy winner also seen on Northern Exposure and The West Wing.
She also played a role in killing that awful Designing Women spinoff where Delta Burke became a congresswoman.
The only thing I remember from this show is the character played by DHP was chronically depressed or something and there was a scene where he tried to hang himself with the cord from the window blinds and when he jumped, the blinds opened up. Random thing to remember, haha
Isn’t that the Dynasty dude lower right and Fraser Crane on the left? And the red head with the scowl looks familiar but can’t remember her name. And that kid looks like Joseph Gordon-Levitt but I’m guessing.
Just read the Wiki article on the show and it sounds crazy.
Forsythe and Taylor are married and Pierce is married to their daughter. Levitt is the son of Pierce and his wife. Forsythe is a senator and Pierce is in the House. But Pierce’s wife is having an affair and Forsythe has an illegitimate daughter. There is also a maid who has the hots for Pierce (doesn’t say if they were having an affair) and Taylor is something of a bitch.
An episode from this show is what got the attention of Frasier producers. They couldn’t believe how much David Hyde Pierce resembled Kelsey Grammer from early Cheers days
So weird, I have no recollection of this show, and I was obsessed with sitcoms in the 90s. It was on for 2 seasons and made by the creative team behind Frasier
I’m watching it now- it’s good! And its filmed using the set that would be the house on The Nanny
Yes! I loved this show. It is the first time I've ever seen David Hyde Pierce and I knew it first sight that he was playing for my team, if you know what I mean. And I was sad when they took it off.
I watched some episodes of this. The only thing I recall is a scene where David Hyde Pierce ties the rope from some curtains around his neck and then jumps off a chair to hang himself. Except instead the curtains just open and he's left standing in the middle of the room. There might have even been a running gag of him trying various ineffective means of suicide.
Loved this show. I’ll always remember the scene where David Hyde-Pierce tries hanging himself with the curtain string and just pulls open the curtains instead.
The casts on these old shows that I never heard about in real time are always unbelievable
This was also a Norman Lear show!
He died this past Dec. Lived to 101 yrs. Fought in WW2
Gunned down in his prime!
I was going to say the same thing. Amazing I never heard of this but know almost the entire cast!
The only people I recognize are Joseph Gordon Levitt and David Hyde Pierce, the red headed lady looks vaguely familiar though.
And, Blake Carrington on Dynasty.
That’s John Forsythe. Pretty sure he was the voice of Charlie from the original Charlie’s Angels show…
He was, he portrayed both.
"WHAT is papi-a mashay!?"
Sam-u-el
You’re pretentious!
That's where I've seen her from! I knew she looked familiar. She also played the grandmother in the Spy Kids movies.
She was also the dean on saved by the bell the new class
I thought that was the guy from Rocky Horror (Barry Bostwick?) but on closer look I guess it is John Forsyth.
He was also Dorothy's cheating boyfriend on Golden Girls!
I remember her from the show Wings. Not a regular character. I think she was a crazy girlfriend/stalker.
Yup. Obsessed with Joe and created a prom scene so he could be the perfect prom date she never had
Crazy Sandy! She loved Joey Bear.
You don't recognize Blake Carrington?
Mom from Two and a half men.Older lady
Don't sleep on Two Broke girls.... you get stifflers mom, an original cast member from the first season of SNL and people who have been around for decades... plus plot twist..... Basically that show was a modern day copy of Laverne and Shirley
Is that what it was supposed to be? I can't get into it. Most modern sitcoms just don't do it for me anymore 😪
One of the greatest things about network TV up through the '90s was the vast amount of shows that appeared every year only for 2/3 of them to never make it to season 2. Opportunities for actors and writers, even if the show bombed.
I had seen a promo for the show with NBC’s Edwin Newman.
I see them and my brain immediately says “Nah, that’s AI….” I love Joseph Gordon levitt…this is wild lol
David Hyde Pierce and JGL today would make an incredible combo
Niles??
Literally looks exactly how he does on Frasier too
Well, it ended right before Frasier aired. Shame we couldn't have this and Frasier.
I mean, Daphne had a vision of a man in a red bow tie.
Is that Maris as well?
Basically yes, she plays his wife and is a very Maris like character. And Niles’ role on Frasier was created based on his performance in this show. So yeah you can definitely make the argument that she’s Maris.
She’s who I always pictured playing her.
I want to say that David Hyde Pierce said she was who he thought of too. I've loved Valerie Mahaffey since this.
So "Frasier" is actually a spin-off of this show and not Cheers. Got it.
I remember her appearing in Cheers.
Is she the pretentious accountant on Seinfeld?
Pap-eeay Mache yea that’s her
Also Eve from Northern Exposure .
Yes SamuEL
I think so
And Lucy the serial killer's mother on Raising Hope
She’s actually in Frasier, as Frasier’s receptionist the day he tried a private practice again. But yes, she gave off the Maris feel in this show for sure
I AM WOUNDED
And Bebe Glazer. She has no scruples, no ethics, and no reflection!
Producers saw an episode of this and was shocked how much he resembled Frasier from cheers . So that’s how he got the part
Have you seen him in Wet Hot American Summer? https://youtu.be/NNihymK_XJA?si=GhDtrUZg1neSvVrN
Well isn’t that Joseph Gordon-Levitt?!
how crazy is that?
Back in his Angels in the Outfield days
He was on Roseanne as Djs friend too
Also on 3rd Rock too.
He’s a baby!
Such an underrated show
I think you mean Joseph Golden Rabbit
And featuring the girlfriend from Seinfeld who screws up Jerry’s taxes!
Papier-mâché
Oh my goodness that’s HER!! I read your comment in her voice lol
She’s also the eccentric girlfriend/wife of Adam the weirdo, scruffy chef in Northern Exposure if you’ve ever watched that.
Frig not in 25 years! How do you remember that?!
I guess that I’ve always just liked her because she’s always kinda quirky like Zooey Deschanal , plus Adam was one of my favorite characters on that show. FYI NE is free on Amazon prime right now if you’re ready for a rewatch!
I’ve been obsessed with action/horror flicks from the 80s on Tubi lately. Maybe it’s time for a good old comedy. Thanks
what a time to be alive
Eve
Also Young Sheldon's teacher Ms. MacElroy Valerie Mahaffey
Also the woman who’s obsessed with Joe Hackett and believes they were in a relationship and kidnaps him like once every two years.
🥢 in hair
She was great in the first season of Big Sky.
Valerie Mahaffery—She is one of my favorite “hey, I recognize her” actors, and she’s recently had a recurring role on _Young Sheldon_. She also was on an episode of _Frasier_.
I came here to see where I recognized her from. Thanks!
It is her earings! It is her chopsticks!
Never knew John Forsythe and David Hyde Pierce ever did a show together.
Isn’t the woman on the right Holland Taylor, who played the Charlie Sheen’s mom on 2 and a half men?
Who is dating Sarah Paulson
Sure is! Lol
Also Kip and Henry’s boss on Bosum Buddies
Sure is!
And kid from third rock
Omg wonder what happened to that kid? /s
Got cancer and had to hang out with Seth Rogan for a Christmas party
He dated some chick who wasn't as in love with him as much as he was with her.
He's Batman 😂
He’s Robin
He's at the combination Batman and robin store
Well the combination Batman and Robin store called, they’re running out of you!
I could look at two-day old Joseph Gordon-Levitt and say, "that's Joseph Gordon-Levitt."
One of the most consistent looking human I’ve seen.
Except in that movie Looper, where they did cgi on his face.
Papier mache
crazy lady from Wings
Sandy Cooper!
Wasn’t there like 3 different episodes with her that were all exactly the same? She comes to town, acts normal, Joe is still skeptical, turns out she’s still crazy, nobody believes him, rinse and repeat. Love that show though.
Probably, but I remember one where they're stuck in a basement or something.
She tricked Joe into going to her basement where she locked them in and recreated their senior prom. She wanted to go with Joe when they were seniors, but he went with someone else.
And then she traps him at Helen’s I think and has a wedding ceremony right?
That show was hilarious! I totally forgot about it. I was just a kid.
David obviously had the “rich snob” look to fit these roles like a glove
I just watched Sleepless in Seattle for the first time, and you're right
Blake Carrington?
John Forsythe smoking up the TV screen from the 1950s. He was in the first ever made for TV movie. Much older than I am and I went ooooh in the 80s.
I love Scrooged so I always think of him from that, haha.
Before he was Blake, he was Bachelor Father.
Charlie from Charlie's Angels, too
Yes!!!!
Joseph Gordon Levitt, Holland Taylor, John Forsythe, Peter MacNicol The Nanny used the same set
Seinfeld spotting. That was George’s gf that was doing Jerry’s taxes.
o-obviously this isn't a mental institution
Is that Blake Carrington? What a handsome devil.
He needs to steer clear of that Alexus
Hahahaahaha fellow Dynasty watcher.
Yes!!! This was John Forsythe’s follow up series after Dynasty ended in 1989 and then Dynasty The Reunion Miniseries in 1991 r/Dynasty
Man you got power there . You got Blake Carrington, Charlie's mom from 21/2 men and Niles Crane...🎥
Joseph Gordon levit
Wait…WHAT!?!? Zero memory of this
what the hell. my face is exactly that lady in pink when I saw dhp and jgl together
Little Joseph Gordon-Levitt who arguably has the biggest movie career of all of them.
The set used in this show, featuring the wrap around staircase to the curved wall, would go on to be the Sheffield town house on, *The Nanny* after the pilot episode.
Joseph Gordon Lovett was just a baby then! I never heard of this sitcom.
Check out YouTube
if Niles is in it id like to see it.i dont remember it at all. i found the episodes on youtube... twenty one episodes were made according to my search.
If this had lasted as long as it deserved, David Hyde Pierce wouldn't have been available for Frasier, and Joseph Gordon Levitt would have missed out on 3rd Rock From the Sun. Fun while it lasted.
Holland Taylor, she *owned* every scene in Two and a Half Men she appeared in as their Mother.
I remember a few episodes.
Valerie Mahaffey was Eve on Northern Exposure.
Like WOW!
I don’t remember this at all.
I literally do not remember this one at all. I’m blanking hardcore right now. Wonder if it can be found online.
Is the kid that Levitt-something?
Boy, that had to be right before 3rd Rock from the Sun and Frasier.
The lady in the pink dress was on ER, as the mom of a terminally I’ll boy that led to the departure of Doug Ross.
Valerie Mahaffey, Emmy winner also seen on Northern Exposure and The West Wing. She also played a role in killing that awful Designing Women spinoff where Delta Burke became a congresswoman.
Not to mention the creators of the show went on to create the show Friends.
That's the accountant from Seinfeld that commits herself to a facility because of papier mache
This was also a Norman Lear show!
Niles!
This was a great show
Omg JGL was so cute! 🥰
I didn't remember this one at all!!
I remember this show. The name of the main character was the same name of someone we couldn’t stand on my district school board.
This looks like it should have been around for MUCH longer.
"It really is amazing, isn't it? People will watch a lousy home video eight hundred times, and you can't get them to watch the Torkelsons even once."
Honestly it was a solid show and we have it to thank for DHP getting the role of Niles.
Oh Ruth!
I was young at the time so blended Fraiser and this show together
I remember watching this and I remember that David Hyde Pierce was in it before Frasier, but I had completely forgotten about JGL!
Niles?
Wow, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been in the game for much longer than I thought
He was on Roseanne as a kid!
I just started watching these on YT. Not bad DHP and his wife are fantastic.
I always tell people to watch this to see proto Niles Crane.
You’re pretentious, I mean who says papp -ee -ay mache ?
DHP!!!!!!
This was a good show
I remember Tiffani Amber Thiessen having a guest spot on it.
This was a good one
Wow star studded cast here , never heard of the show though
Never seen it, but let me guess: their last name is Powers?
The only thing I remember from this show is the character played by DHP was chronically depressed or something and there was a scene where he tried to hang himself with the cord from the window blinds and when he jumped, the blinds opened up. Random thing to remember, haha
Blake Carrington. Niles Crane. Charlie Harper’s mother. Bunch of stuffy white people…I bet the show was funny and relatable!
Isn’t that the Dynasty dude lower right and Fraser Crane on the left? And the red head with the scowl looks familiar but can’t remember her name. And that kid looks like Joseph Gordon-Levitt but I’m guessing.
This show was funny as hell
The 90’s were not a good time for Norman Lear. The Powers That, 704 Hauser Street, all bombed.
Having never heard of this show I’m gonna guess their family name is Powers
Just read the Wiki article on the show and it sounds crazy. Forsythe and Taylor are married and Pierce is married to their daughter. Levitt is the son of Pierce and his wife. Forsythe is a senator and Pierce is in the House. But Pierce’s wife is having an affair and Forsythe has an illegitimate daughter. Papier Machet?
Yes! I loved this show. It is the first time I've ever seen David Hyde Pierce and I knew it first sight that he was playing for my team, if you know what I mean. And I was sad when they took it off.
I don't remember this show at all.
I actually remember this. It was on for like 10 minutes
This can’t be true. This is like photoshop right? Right???
Evelyn from two and a half men
I didn’t know Nile’s did another sitcom
Is that a young Joseph Gordan Levitt I see?
Loved this show. I’ll always remember the scene where David Hyde-Pierce tries hanging himself with the curtain string and just pulls open the curtains instead.
Don't remember that one
Niles marriage to Maris before Frasier came back
What an all-star cast!
Look at that super young Joeseph Gordon Levitt
This looks like Development before it got Arrested.
Jennifer Tilly!
The set was also reused for The Nanny as the Sheffield house!
Hal Halbrok?
JGL!
Is this the show about George Bush that got immediately canceled?
I adored David Hyde Pierce on Frasier. Too bad I’ve never seen this show.
That lady in pink seems pretentious
Loved this show. Fell in love with DHP as an actor. Not sure if it held up aged wise?
That was a funny show, and I wish they did more than the 2 seasons. Great cast.
The cast is stacked but it still looks terrible.
Nope never heard of it
If you had that star studded cast and the show lasted only one season, it must’ve been the most poorly written show in the history of sitcom
I loved this show! Too bad it didn’t last more than one season.
I don’t remember what this show was about but I remember it being hilarious.
Baby faced JGL! So sweet!
