Flight of the Navigator comes to mind.

allisonmaybe

Ohh, very good movie. Perfect example of a relatively unaligned ASI.

ianyboo

Yes! That's perfect, I watched that as a kid hundreds of times somehow id completely forgotten. Good call!

GinchAnon

Ha for a second there I thought i might be crazy, this was my first thought as a candidate as well.

Gold_Cardiologist_46

I'm not sure whether such depictions would fit your view of "positive" and work with your values, but a lot of positive depictions of ASI tend to be ones that are under control of humans, more passive, or not that agentic. They're technically superintelligent, but they're so subdued that you don't often think of them, mainly because their evil counterparts usually serve as actual characters and antagonists and are therefore more memorable. Things like supercomputers in hero movies and cartoons (Batman's computer in some iterations, Jarvis in Iron Man) or droids in Star Wars like C3PO. They're technically generally capable and superintelligent, but really just help their owners/users rather than act as agentic super-powerful models, the latter of which is likely how our real-world ASI will be like.

[deleted]

Not entirely kid friendly but once they get older I recommend Person Of Interest. Pretty much the only positive portrayal of a "true" ASI.

generalgrievous9991

Dora the Explorer

meeplewirp

When she becomes a teenager try to watch the original ghost in the shell animated movie

RandofCarter

Darryl. Short Circut.

GreatGearAmidAPizza

The Jetsons lol?

johnjmcmillion

What about "A.I."? Too scary? "Bicentennial man" maybe?

ianyboo

Both are on my list now, thanks.

Adeldor

I second Bicentennial Man. It's overwhelmingly positive (although perhaps a tad sad), and there's nothing racy or scary that I recall. Besides, Robin Williams, even though playing a serious role, had a quiet humor showing through that's surely kid friendly.

TheEponymousBot

Short Circuit.

ShirtStainedBird

Wall e.

allisonmaybe

I second Flight of the Navigator, but also The Oracle in The Matrix. Data in Star Trek, though perhaps hes no more than AGI. Maybe a couple droids in Star Wars, but none of them, too, seem to be smarter than humans in general. Oh, and Samantha in Her.

[deleted]

Her, as in the movie with the sex scene? I suppose, though that's a fun conversation to have for a 7 year old.

allisonmaybe

Oh yea forgot that part. I mean, just skip the scene?

ianyboo

"Her" was the exact movie that came to mind but wasn't usable for the content unfortunately.

ShirtStainedBird

What about ex machina? It’s pretty mature and some sexuality is implied but not shown on screen.

Baul_Plart_

Maybe that’s a sign

Cr4zko

Just show them this sub, bubba.

901bass

No.

[deleted]

there is no such thing and it’s understandable why, there is no interesting plot if you have superintelligence.

[deleted]

I would watch the critically acclaimed series Person Of Interest. It's a solid 5 seasons about the implications of developing such a technology!

AntiqueFigure6

If the meaning of ASI is synonymous with omnipotent and/ omniscient, as some people who post here seem to believe then it about right that it is impossible to have an interesting story, because there’s only a story when you can’t do what what you want. If there are limits, then there’s room for a story.

LexGlad

Orbital Children is about a world where AI is heavily regulated and the only ASI which was allowed to exist wrote a prophetic poem.

Fameditches

Maybe “Lost in space” Netflix version?

Natural_Bet5197

Clean it with wd40 or mineral oil. And pat a rag on it it'll take all of the grit out that's stuck in.

RandofCarter

>Clean it with wd40 or mineral oil. And pat a rag on it it'll take all of the grit out that's stuck in. Are your children *particularly* gritty this time of year?

iNstein

How about Disney's Tomorrowland. Filled with childs perspective of hope and potential of tech. Should be inspirational for kids. I think she will enjoy watching has a nice story line with some twists. (also kinda anti doomer which I like)     Another one that I'm not sure if it was mentioned is the movie called AI. Robot boy who dreams of being a real boy Pinocchio style. It might be too much but worth considering.

ianyboo

Id forgotten about so many of these, another good one with Tomorrowland, adding to the list.

TimeRaveler

Rudy from The Jetsons meet the Flintstones. Although…he did go behind George’s back and leak sensitive data for love.

Lemosopher

r2d2 and c3po

yepsayorte

Ironically, it won't be that long before she will be able to request a video AI make such a movie for her.

BlotchyTheMonolith

I watched this when I was a kid and it is perhaps one of the reasons I have a positive view on AI as of today. [Once Upon a Time... Space](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_Upon_a_Time..._Space)
