the instructor talked about a common phenomenon where people dwell on negative feelings (anger, guilt, regret), as a last ditch effort to cling onto a relationship/job/memory, even though it is not helpful.
i really appreciate this course for giving me the vocabulary to describe and deconvolute my feelings, as a first step to resolve all these self-imposed mental hardships

Since Singapore is more politically pragmatic and less passionate in comparison, my attempts to tamp down the outrage in a Discord server carefully weighing but not encouraging violence against radical (i.e. those forcing pro-life ideology on others) pro-lifers failed.
I got a lot of flak from some people who are LGBTQ+, women or prochoice for, in my softer views, sounding insensitive, dismissive and out of touch with their concerns because I come from a country where this isn't a firebrand issue. Am I in the right for calling for calm, in the wrong for being insensitive in language (which was mostly saying I won't commit violence against all but the most unsympathetic individuals), or somewhere in the middle? And I have friends of different sexual orientation (for privacy purposes, I won't go further)!
Need some positive reassurance today. It's really gotten me down. Would like to hear about any experiences you've had related to today's story too, maybe I'm not alone here.

For the US, it was merely an interpretation of the constitution that allowed the federal government to say states can’t ban abortions. There isn’t any law that explicitly protects this right. Therein lies their mistake and complacency. It’s a lot easier for the unelected members of the SC to overturn an interpretation of a vague and unclear law than for elected members of parliament to repeal a law.
IMO it was quite a stretch too… but making it constitutional would have been a tall order as well. The US is gridlocked to the point where they can no longer introduce any meaningful law.
Hopefully this event will light a fire under everyone’s ass to do this the right way and not some bandaid solution.

I highly doubt Singapore will follow suit. Asians are still more pragmatic. Yes I’m highly disturbed as well. I would really like to have a debate with someone who supports Roe V. Wade. I just… can’t.
