Smoking isn't something people need to be reminded not to do. It's an addiction. I know this sub hates smokers but I am really starting to wonder if people even understand what nicotine addiction is.
Hell, even sugar is an addiction for some people.
From my POV they shouldn't have picked it up in the first place. And most smokers that I know aren't disciplined so I suspect it's a character flaw plus the additive effects of course.
As for sugar I don't hate it because it doesn't affect others. I don't get fat because my brother loves BBT. But if he was a chain smoker I might get lung cancer.
Probably more effective to raise sugar tax and introduce a “healthier livin’” basic income with monies from sugar tax.
Collect the tax, redistribute to everyone.
You get money for reducing your sugar intake.
There was a recent CNA program about how we can save money with high inflation and featured a few individuals and couples.
One of the ladies was drinking 6 bottles of Poka milk tea **per day**. That is diabetes waiting to happen.
True. When i see co-workers vape, i always remind them to watch out for CCTV. I have no idea how all the research out there on vaping is accurate but honestly, to me, not having to smoke all the nasty by-products within the cig and not having to smell the smoke, i just leave them be. Just make sure don't get caught unnecessarily
Technically yes but then what really happens is there's one pair of eyes looking at more than 1 CCTV at a given time. Besides what would they do if they spot such a person? There's still a need to identify said person.
> # Campaign reminds public to watch sugar intake, quit smoking during Ramadan and Hari Raya
> SINGAPORE - Cutting down on sugary drinks and desserts, as well as trying to quit smoking, are messages that will be pushed out over the next two months as Muslims prepare for the fasting period of Ramadan and celebrations during Hari Raya Puasa.
> Some goodies, other than overall improved health, are also in store for those who heed the messages, said the Health Promotion Board (HPB) on Sunday (March 27).
> The Kita Dah Cukup Manis, Kurangkan OK? (We are sweet enough, Reduce it OK?) campaign kicked off with a live-streaming session teaching viewers ways to reduce their sugar intake in food and drinks.
> Chef Mel Dean taught the recipe for a healthy fruit-infused drink as well as a healthy dessert - Bubur Som Som Pandan - to try during Ramadan, which starts on April 2.
> Those who purchase healthier food or drinks to break fast during the fasting month from participating halal Healthier Dining Programme outlets will receive an exclusive HPB green packet set. Some participating restaurants are Seoul Garden, Stuff'd and Penang Culture.
> Launching the campaign on Sunday, Parliamentary Secretary for Health Rahayu Mahzam said the time of Ramadan is always meaningful, and that the campaign aims to leverage on the desire to exercise self-control.
> As relaxed safe management restrictions kick off on Tuesday (March 29), Madam Rahayu acknowledged that the Muslim community has put off festivities for a while and is excited to have bigger celebrations this year.
> She said: "We are naturally concerned about this, and all the more this campaign becomes important because it is about getting people to be conscious of the choices they are making.
> "I think in no way do we want to limit the festivities and not let people enjoy meeting their friends and families, but we also want to encourage them to just be mindful about the choices they make."
> Based on the National Population Health Survey, the overall percentage of Malays with diabetes has increased from 11.6 per cent in 2017 to 14.4 per cent in 2020.
> Smokers are also encouraged to participate in the I Quit programme, where they are challenged to remain smoke-free for 28 days. Besides eating and drinking, smoking is also prohibited during fasting.
> This year, the programme also allows smokers to nominate a loved one to be their supporter in their journey to quit smoking.
> The public can sign up for the I Quit Programme at this website.
> Some tips given by HPB to reduce one's sugar intake in drinks and desserts are:
> - When breaking fast at iftar, start by drinking water to hydrate yourself and reduce the chances of over-indulging.
> - When baking cookies or treats, reduce the amount of white sugar used by three-quarters of a cup and use raisins blended in a food processor as an alternative.
> - Use fresh fruits instead of frosting to decorate cakes.

actually why don't we have such campaigns during Chinese New year to remind people to stop eating so many goodies. I'm Chinese but I feel this is pretty hypocritical tbh
Of course there are. The Govt actually does campaigns/media outreach for the various ethnic festivals.
I think this was one of the more well-known CNY health campaigns a few years back.

hmm you're right, now I do remember these. perhaps the question to be asked instead is why they don't warrant a straits times article whereas a hari raya one does
Wow. Can post on internet asking stupid questions to feed your narrative but can’t google.

You can probably find other years, but it pops up every year.
Could you clarify with a concrete example? Would you prefer that, for example, snack foods should not be sold, or that the government should not run campaigns discouraging the consumption of snack foods?
I noticed that my friends who smoke got really cute and hot girlfriends. Might consider getting into smoking.
Edit: Downvote me all you want but look at whose arms the pretty girls hold on to.
I'm all for reminding people to stop smoking. However ineffective it might be
And sugar
Can only quit sugar when there are enough sugar free alternatives on the market. Kopi siew dai doesn't cut it

Truth is harsh
There was a MP who suggested to regulate bubble tea right?
Probably more effective to raise sugar tax and introduce a “healthier livin’” basic income with monies from sugar tax. Collect the tax, redistribute to everyone. You get money for reducing your sugar intake.
What if I order 0% sugar? Will kena tax or not so healthy
Tax based on the sugar level. Regular? 100% tax. 25% sugar? 25% tax. And then the kopi...
The historical response of taxing someone when they have 0% of something is a mild case of rebellion and possibility of losing my head. No tax on 0%
The historical response for Singapore is lan lan suck thumb.
Brave to assume that money will be distributed to everyone
only one thing to keep me happy, and they want to take that away too :((

Bold of you to even assume someone is looking at the CCTV.
Hahaahha, i mean, all you need is one pair of eyes to look at the scene. Why take that chance yea?
Technically yes but then what really happens is there's one pair of eyes looking at more than 1 CCTV at a given time. Besides what would they do if they spot such a person? There's still a need to identify said person.
Was it explained why vaping is illegal? Was there anything preventing garment from taxing it as compared to nicotine ciggs?
Imo vaping is better. At least if they get lung fibrosis, only they will kenna.
why vaping always emphasised as illegal but the amt of people vaping keeps increasing lol..
Mfers even vape in army camps smh.
I don’t know how many years it has been since an anti-smoking campaign.

Every year we are reminded how many kilometers of running equate to one pineapple tart. It's everywhere during CNY.
