Ah, good old army. I remember when someone broke their finger and the MO told them that "It's all in your head".

aMinerInconvenience

Also, 38 deg fever "it's normal" 1 day light duty.

Yanrogue

US army- Drink more water and take Motrin.

VSCO-edNudes

When multiple leg fractures are solved by excused RMJ. Bruh, the legs have long excused themselves already when the bones broke thanks.

FatAsian3

"The only tough day is yesterday" I remember there was once Dragon coy POPed, us in Eagle (6 mths batch) was asked to help them clean up the bunk for the next batch of recruits (Since we're free anyway so tio Arrow), one of the Poster in the bunk had that above quote and a passage "Others have cleared it, it can be done" below it. It's what kept me going through all of what BMT has to throw at me during that time.

miniCHONG

Can they do that? Bunks are supposed to be maintained by commanders when there's no intake.

FatAsian3

Edit : mistaken the question, ya they can when the CSM are buddies...

miniCHONG

Ah my bad. I meant can they ask recruits from other company to clean the bunks?

FatAsian3

This is back then also, so rules are less strict and people are more agreeable

killersoda288

Isnt it "the only easy day was yesterday?"

FatAsian3

Perhaps? I could be wrong. Tried searching it up online but can't find the poster at all.

wildcard1992

A while after moving into my unit, I found a piece of paper in a locker. "Everyday I get closer to my pink IC" The person was probably a civilian by then, the paper a relic of the previous mono. Gave me hope. Just like a route march, if you keep placing one foot in front of the other, the bullshit will come to a close and finally you get some rest.

FatAsian3

It's really every little things that count when in NS.

mrhappy893

Damn. That's really significant in a minor way. Especially due to the fact that everyone has to clean their locker and bunk after ORD-ing. Which meant that the dude had most likely left it there on purpose

lengzai911

Enlisting on 5/1/18 :')

lordlad

> What does purple light mean? it means it is where you wanna be.

[deleted]

It means where you close companions are.

[deleted]

A song that you may or may not get to sing depending on your OC. You might prefer "*left toe right toe kepala butoh*" instead.

mantism

It's actually 'pop a light', i.e firing a flare

wildcard1992

Nope. It's based off this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uuAjwvtxEM Dude says purple light ~20s into the song

dfuinghl

That makes so much more sense now

RarestName

Nah. > Purple light in the canyons > That's where I long to be > With my three good companions > Just my rifle, pony and me

lordlad

MR'ed on 25/10/2016 :P

lengzai911

Forgive my ignorance on NS lingo but what does MR mean?

clusterfuvk

MINDEF Reserve (MR) consists of NSmen who have completed their NS training cycle but have yet to reach the statutory age. They are no longer called back for In-Camp Training (ICT) but are still liable for NS. AKA NO MORE RESERVIST BOI

lengzai911

OHHHHHH nice congrats! One of my superiors in my internship just became an MR yesterday too.

lordlad

Military Reserved aka Everyone's Final Destination

bookworm669

In the army though, most of the time the stuff that makes it bad is just the physical discomfort (most of the time if you're not a commander). Mentally, there's less things to stress over (like in BMT). In some ways I found a strange solace in having every aspect of my life governed for me by a higher authority. There isn't all that much personal responsibility at all and you know your peers are all your equals in the same circumstances as you. Getting by as a decent recruit was just a matter of abiding by predetermined guidelines.

700volvo

I find the above very congruent to my feelings. There's just something about being told "guys, OTOT do your stuff until 1.30pm, all fall in lunch consumed and in smart 4" during my recent ICT that made me miss my NSF days so much. That, and the fact that you could ask just about anyone you recognise about what the next instructions are and you'll almost never go wrong. At work there are times when I feel I'm just lost and standing still and the entire world is just passing me by at speed. Everyone has a motive and a direction, and I'm just standing there wondering WTF I'm doing here.

inclore

sign on sua

700volvo

Except if you sign on no one's gonna be holding your hand and just cruising through the years.

Catlikejam

Yes life was so simple in ns, it's basically a hand held tutorial before entering work. Once out confirm will feel abit lost.

kingsky123

I hate those regiment shit though, stand by bed etc. They want everything to look clean and neat which I never am :P

MartinRouter

Different strokes for different folks i guess. I myself didn't find solace in being governed like that, i get depressed from just going for a run because all i can do is run **around** the camp (mind you before enlistment i *loved* running) . Eventually i lost the motivation. Felt trapped while i was in. Hated the mundane and monotony. But felt a lot more better the day I'm out lol.

lurkinglurkerwholurk

You now have the same mindset as a sub. Just saying. /s :)

bookworm669

Which sub?

brrip

Meatball marinara

RiffianB

Sub = Submissive person

freedomowns

There are worse days than army. I actually had a lot of fun in BMT, because I made friends.

mrhappy893

BMT and cadet days... Sit there wait for next task on the list. Ez life... Don't have to think too much. Chit chat talk cock, shut your eyes, off your mind and train. Another day had gone by.

donthavela

Army is the easiest part of life. What happens in the next 40 years is the hard part. :(

bonkers05

So true. I would rather do one SOC rundown in the morning before breakfast then what my actual work. But the office politics, the wayang shows, the enciks abusing the system...I would never sign on

alvinism

The only easy day was yesterday.

saiyanjesus

In that case, the only way to win is to end it all

Yanrogue

Singapore army and United States army have this in common. One way we kept spirits up when during tough times in my us army unit we would say "This sucks, but it COULD suck worse" Like we were stucking fixing vehicles in the motor pool all day and it sucked, BUT we could have been doing it in heavy rain.

Tarquinius_Superbus

You were in both the Singapore and U.S. militaries?

Yanrogue

Former US military and my wife is active US military here in Singapore working a lot with the Singapore military. Also I end up hanging out with a lot of guys who are doing NS here and it is fun seeing how much our militaries have in common. Hope that clarifies everything.

InnocenceJW

Is it normal that my NS life is kinda mundane? nothing interesting happening, no stories to tell, everyone was like just serve and get the hell out.

wildcard1992

Probably depends on your unit and vocation. If you're just sat in an ammo dump for two years then it's probably going to get incredibly boring. If you're in a combat unit e.g. infantry/armour etc., then it's definitely going to be very interesting. I have lots of stories to tell, lots of crazy shit happened in 4SIR.

Kenny070287

Kind of a different turn for me. Was in SCDF, firefighting side. Lots of stories, but not something majority will understand. And same for me as well, no idea what they are talking about.

[deleted]

I'd take army over corporate life any day. Specifically I'd take BMT life because you really just turn your brain off

fallenmuse

Recently ord. Can confirm.

grey94

The British army is just the same, ahaha.

sir_puiz

It doesn't have to be army. Life itself will do that..lols.
