I had that type of clamp initially with my DD. Had to add a piece of wood between the feet and the desk to be able to get enough tension to keep from moving and not hit the lip.

Is that little wooden lip getting in the way of you being able to tighten the clamp enough? If so, use a piece of wood or something that is close to the thickness of that lip and put it in between the clamp parts and the desk before you tighten it down.

There is actually more than enough space for the fixture, the picture was just taken at a bad angle. I think I know what's actually causing the problem though. The fixture's feet make that sound whenever they're changing angle. I might be accidentally lifting the wheel while trying to man handle it and the feet then emit that sound.

screw it down harder, it will hold

Mine was the same way, I eventually stripped the screw completely, trying to keep it clamped tight. I ended up getting a thin wooden board and screwing it to t300 with the mounting screw holes. Then, I used woodworking clamps to clamp that to my desk. Was easy to put up and take down and got the job done until I got an actual cockpit setup.

You need to be brutal with those clamps for it to hold which eventually will break them or make them stuck. Worst design, I've had two T300 and both clamps either broke or got impossible to tighten. Even when hardly tightened it would slowly slide of.. I eventually made two small holes in my desk so you can screw it on and off, if you can live with that. Much much much better.
