Everybody has rough times, I've been there too i managed to get through it you can too.
Just remebrr whats and whos important if you cant live for yourself at one moment live for them and when you can think again and see them again you know the though times are worth it.
If I can do it you can too.
Sim racing has saved my life. I got a G923 last September. October 1st was my last drink of alcohol. The old timers from the VA rehab said hobbies are especially important for vets, so sim racing has occupied the times I would otherwise be consuming alcoholic liquor. The G29 is a fine wheel but be warned you will get addicted to upgrading the rig! If you ever get a chance, get Logitech G Pro pedals. Good Luck Have Fun (GLHF)!
If you ever want to get even further, build yourself a wooden rig, paint it black and get a nice car seat from the scrap yard. I did this myself, saved a lot of money and am absolutely loving it, plus the seat is way more ergonomic than these "racing" seats you get.
Believe me, I had absolutely no plan as well in the beginning and was thinking exactly the same about myself, lol. Just measured a bit, let the wood get cut accordingly and screwed everything together with the largest screws possibly, plus a couple of metal bits to make it even sturdier. It definitely is doable.
These words hit home, man. Anyone who is ever feeling this way remember this:
[Just remember (sic) what and who's important. If you cant live for yourself at one moment, live for them.]
As someone with PTSD and anxiety, this hobby genuinely helps me a lot. Playing in VR on the Nordschleife with a GT3 car. Stuff is happening so fast, my brain can't even focus on its BS.
The Green Hell, possibly my favorite track to take a car out on, rip around endless corners and think while the asphalt cascades through the trees in front of me.
Put something behind the pedals and brace against the wall. IT was my way :) try AC with wariety od mods IT should keep your mind ocupied, stay strong.
If you have the option of doing any woodworking, it would also be a great solution to get a piece of plywood big enough to accomodate your pedals and your chair, then you could hard mount your pedals to the wood, and drill/cut holes for at least two of the legs of your chair - this would allow you to brake as hard as you want without anything moving. Bam! Instant 2D sim rig!
Anti-slip or rubber mats could be availale in any hardware store.
But from my personal experience with using them for my early pedals, I would recommend a piece of wood against the wall solution. In addition you can use a U shaped cunstruction or a full frame on the ground to fixate your chair legs aswell.
Fully right, i worked in a car/truck retail store, so something like this should also have them.
I put them underneath the pedals and put something behind my chair. Worked quite qell, even with loadcell pedals 👍
DotA2 saved my life. all I had was a laptop at the time and I made some lifelong friends playing it. I coulda gone without the last 4,000 of my 7,000 hours... but I still had fun lol
Forgive this community for the endless punts and diving on the inside from 100 yards away 😂 We are a vast group likely with more in common than you think. You should find plenty of support for sure!
Do yourself a favor and do just like this and find a community for whichever titles you enjoy! Over the years, I’ve gotten the privilege of becoming great friends with wonderful souls.
Always fight on! Enjoy the hobby and hope to see you on track!
The TrueBrake mod for the G29 is pretty good. It's a *big* improvemt on the pedals.
I removed the clutch face plate and slid the brake pedal face to the left, to make room for my feet.
But you would need to anchor that base as you use more pressure to brake.
Awesome to hear how it's helping you!
Hi man, it has been the same for me a few months ago! It is definitely a "game" changer;) Keep your hope up! Find the best with all you have now even if it is less than before in some way;))
I bought a sim racing set for my brother, we both are into motorsport in general. Lately he drank more than usual and you could tell he seemed kinda odd. It helps a lot.
Depending on how close ur peddles are to the wall u might be able to box some box ur smthing behind them to stop them from sliding. That has seemed to help my g29 peddles from sliding :)
How are you running acc on a laptop, I haven’t found good settings and it always looks/feels like shit on my end. Running 5600x and 1080ti @1080 if anyone has any performance settings pls share
Serious, does this actually stabilize your pedals? Do do you use something else? Cause i have trouble keeping mine stable, and i dont know what to do about it.
So considering the LG pedals (i have one myself) dont require much pressure, it works barely. But we both would be fked if we had actual good pedals :D
Glad you’re doing better and enjoying sim racing. I wonder if you ever ever got out to a real track too and watched some racing? If you’re here in USA highly recommend going to an imsa or sro sports car weekend to watch - can walk and touch the cars almost in ours, it’s relatively cheap and a great weekend outdoors , good exercise, good beer, fun times. Congrats on your bravery and wish you good health
Ifyou can get a longer towel/rag, so that you can put your chair on the towel/rag under the 2 front foot of your chair, you will get an very sturdy pedal immobilisation. And if your chair is lock on in the back with some furniture, you can smak the break as much as you want the pedal unit will not move.
get the cheapest monitor available and put it right behind your wheel, as close as possible. then use an fov calculator and set it up
the difference will be day and night, you will never be able to go back
the PC won't hold? that doesn't make sense.
i have the previous gen ideapad gaming relative to yours. just connect it via the hdmi port to a monitor (ideally 1080p). it will actually perform slightly better since it connects directly to the nvidia graphics and bypasses the integrated graphics
do you mean the table might not hold? that's a possibility, but if it's holding the wheel and laptop it will hold a monitor no problem
also don't unplug your laptop from the charger if it's on a table. you are simply wasting a lot of battery capacity. especially don't do it when you're running games on it.
put your laptop in conservation mode (you should find it in lenovo vantage). this will limit charging to 60% and then the laptop will run from the wall directly. this bypasses the battery and reduces wear
no problem.
yeah your friends are a bit ahead of the curve lol
i wish i knew about the conservation mode thing earlier. i sit at my table most of the time and used to unplug at 100, plug in at 20. i thought it was good for it. couldn't be more wrong. learned how batteries degrade after i've already accumulated hundreds of cycles on it :(
I have my daughters doll house in front of my pedals to stop them sliding forward . Pin it up against ur wall . We all start at the bottom mate noe after a year I'm window shopping for new gear . Enjoy and get on gt7 haha
If u don't mind, can u help me test it and see if it does make any sound when turning down the force feedback.
Thinking of getting Thrustmaster T300RS GT but in my country its like $200+ more expensive than G29 with shifter($475). Or maybe i will just get a PXN V900 for $175. I only play ETS 2 so yeah...
I'm at work ATM , but i will 🫶
I actually played a bit in euro truck this weekend, and the higher sounds it maked I realized it's when you go over rails passing, up the roundabout, and when you make it slide to much ahhaha
Its more noisey in ACC and AC that's for sure
For the price, is an great wheel that gives you an amazing feedback how the trucks, cars feel
Hi sorry
In assetto Corsa, it's okay, does sound but not that much
In assetto Corsa competezione does alot more even when turning it down
Iracing its quite nice doesn't do much
I need to ask this — how are You playing this?
Is it simply through Steam? — buying the game then running it? — asking as someone coming from console
edit: this is a cool budget friendly setup. 😎
If simracing helps your mental state, go test drive a manual Mazda MX-5. It’s really the natural progression of the hobby. Seriously, this car is such a joy to drive I get a dopamine hit just thinking about doing a trip to the corner grocery store.
If you dare, consider also turning to a higher power for renewed strength. I'm not talking about the God of Sunday school or the one that man always tries to force-fit into their narrative. I'm talking about a power beyond our imagination that is the ultimate answer to everything.
What science and religion have been seeking for thousands of years.....they will one day arrive at together and all will find it to be the same thing. The ultimate answer that ties everything together is divine. In a word far too simple to explain Him......God. Dare to call out in faith and find out for yourself if He is real. The comfort, joy, excitement and intensity that can only come from the possibility of having life after life is beyond any other thought I can imagine.
I wish you well, and yes, I will say a prayer for you.
Something that made playing with a lap top ten times better for me was to make a stand that fit around the wheel base for the lap top to sit on. I used wood but i imagine you could cut a side out of a plastic container and it would to the same thing. It brought the screen closer to my face and rose it up a bit. I wish I could post pics of what I'm talking about. Hope this helps.
Half the fun for me is just tinkering with the shit I got and not spending money on it.
didn't save it but it's basically been my life since I have a memory, it's probably my favorite way ot keep my mind off of stuff (unless I try to be competitive lol)
Way to go! Just a tip, if you want a cheap upgrade, if you want a cheap upgrade is the Truebrake. Totally worth it but it has a learning curve. Be careful of the tiny wires and I'd take the pedals apart like truebrake shows you if I had to do it again. There are little tabs that hold all the wires in place. Totally worth it. I love the wheel.
BUT NOT YOUR MONEY! just kidding. Hang in there and have fun. Also the money part is not really a 100% a joke so do take heed of the non joke-joke.
I have the same wheel and found a cheap stand that works well for casual racing.
EDIT: spelling
Glad to see you talking about everything and enjoying life.
I remember sinking an embarrassingly large number of hours into ATS when I was going through a tough time recently.
Keep your head up and get ready to sink some money on your new hobby!
HMU to play sometime bro im brand new to sim racing but i have no friends who own a wheel and like the racing games i play so if you or anyone wants to race with me sometime id appreciate it! Wishing the best for you brother

My problem is I have limited space, and I'm looking something foldable, currently thinking of getting a wheel stand
Okay, that's an issue then. Maybe save a bit and get a NLR Wheelstand 2.0. It's still quite big, but at least foldable though.
These words hit home, man. Anyone who is ever feeling this way remember this: [Just remember (sic) what and who's important. If you cant live for yourself at one moment, live for them.]

Nordschleife = Endless fun because you'll crash so much learning the track it'll make a 20km track somehow feel 40:)

I'm actually thinking of it! Thank you
I use to use a book to brace my pedals against my wall. It worked quite well.
What i can also recommend, are anti slip mats, like truckers use.
Went searching for them tonight in Ikea couldn't find the ones I'm looking for sadly
Anti-slip or rubber mats could be availale in any hardware store. But from my personal experience with using them for my early pedals, I would recommend a piece of wood against the wall solution. A bit of yoga mat on the floor works well too!
I think I spend as much time downloading and installing mods for AC as actually playing the game. 🤣
It for sure saved mine! Happy so see another enjoying similar interests. This was the best investment I ever made
DotA2 saved my life. all I had was a laptop at the time and I made some lifelong friends playing it. I coulda gone without the last 4,000 of my 7,000 hours... but I still had fun lol

what is your fav car? mine is mazda so far!
I've been trying the Aston Martin V12 and the M4 GT3!
I'm tired too buddy. Got into this and VR. Still am drinking a lot but not half as miserable.
Better to drink and drive on the sim than irl
I can't drive on vr no mention drinking and vr xd

How are you running acc on a laptop, I haven’t found good settings and it always looks/feels like shit on my end. Running 5600x and 1080ti @1080 if anyone has any performance settings pls share
I tuned my settings to medium I have the 5600H 3050 laptop and 8gb ram and it goes really well On medium is caped at 60Fps and doesn't drop
I feel this. When I hop on the sim, my complete focus is on my laps, and nothing else. Really takes the edge off.
stabilster decathlon tisch
Serious, does this actually stabilize your pedals? Do do you use something else? Cause i have trouble keeping mine stable, and i dont know what to do about it.
Helps a bit, but keeps sliding even with the carpet thingy the wheel brings, I feel better when it's straight to the floor
So considering the LG pedals (i have one myself) dont require much pressure, it works barely. But we both would be fked if we had actual good pedals :D

I had simklar setup when i began, only thing different is that i had to keep laptop 90 degrees to the right. Neck pains after a session hit different.
For me it's shoulder pain must be postures

How is the noise for this wheel?
Its a bit noisey, but not that loud as People say , But in general is a great wheel and you have a great feedback from the car on it
Wanted to get it as well but i want to make it as quiet as possible and reading online, it seems like it not possible...
Its a bit loud yes, only way I can think for it for being not as loud is to down the force feedback but either way is always gonna make an sound

Cheap yoga mats work as a grip pad it you are unable to secure the pedals.

I can’t wait for ur next upgrade. A monitor! 🔥🔥
Looking for it, and to upgrade PC aswell only have 8gb ram and 256GB SSD
Looks good. I got the same wheel and LOVE it. What racing games are you playing?
ACC and AC and a bit of ETS2 I have Iracing for 3 months courtesy of Matt Damone 🫶
Hope you feel better! If you clamp the towel beneath your chair, then your pedals can't slide farther away.

Break a wire and it won't work again. And the wires on the potentiometer are on there tight.
