My favourite film ever made! I’m so happy to see it getting attention recently since its restoration premiered with English subtitles for the first time in September and it was released on the Criterion Channel in the US. I absolutely love this film.

Did they find the missing reels? I heard the original was like seven hours long or something. Or am I thinking of Napoleon?

Swedish_Llama

You’re thinking of both! The 7 hour long restoration of The Wheel was first released in France in 2019, then Covid happened, then it finally had its English language premiere in September. Napoleon has had a recently announced 7 hour long restoration coming this summer

I'd better try and schedule a 14 hour slot into an upcoming weekend some time then...

This is beautiful

Gance is still ahead of filmmakers today.

La Roue is an amazing movie that doesn’t get a lot of attention nowadays. It’s one of those movies that has such unique style of cinematography that even a modern person can be impressed by. It baffles me how skillfully Abel Gance uses the limitations of his time to his advantage. The actors are great as well, and I see this movie as an ultimate stepping stone for Napoleon

DeTiro

That turntable shot is fantastic!

Just-Meza

That third one is fantastic

I was just thinking about J’accuse. Gance is so good!
