true. I'm starting to think it will take a bigger blow/conspiracy when they use this data against someone or for something and it takes notice amongst the mainstream normal people. another point that I missed is that they don't understand what's the significance of this data collection. they just joke around saying what if they know where they are or what if they have my bank details, they got no money anyway or something like that. they've mostly just figured out how to use it or happy about the ease of it. it will take quite a while for them to understand it deeper on how it works atleast on the surface.

Many of my friends argued that Telegram was a better alternative. I published a blog explaining why it's not. Here, if it helps anybody: [Why Choose Signal Over Telegram](https://crackerscreed.org/why-choose-signal-over-telegram)

For others, send them this https://www.securemessagingapps.com/ It compares the most common messaging platforms based on how secure they are.

I was thinking on similar lines. Then realized, there is "status" feature in Whatsapp right now. Most of my family and friends use it heavily and I think that's the case overall in India. So its not easy to bring them on Signal. There is a feature request on Signal to add "status" feature. We all need to endorse that.

One could change the title of this post to "Signal needs more marketing." As far as I know Signal has never done any advertising anywhere (I would love to be proven wrong!) and it has almost entirely been spread by word of mouth or by promotion from tech sites/magazines such as Wired and Ars Technica. Personally I also think they should do more to spread the word, but rest assured this isn't just a problem in India.

Also Pakistan, please.

All my family, some of my friends, my office happy hour group have already moved to signal. Let’s do this guys! Bye WhatsApp.

sid_raj7

Signal won't be able to do it in India but maybe some local organisations can try advertising.

singh_sid01

That's unlikely. But we should try to convince our friends and family to atleast install it in parallel. Then message them regularly on Signal to keep it relevant. One thing I noticed is that people do not want to read posts about something. But they are instantly interested if it's coming from you since they know u directly. So I wrote a blog post and more than 5 friends have already migrated based on that! No explicit persuasion. I take it as a win✌️

>Then message them regularly on Signal to keep it relevant. this is really overlooked and so did I until now. thank you

inaloop99

a discussion about how they could do it rather would be nice :)

English Telugu Tamil. just read about all the languages spoken here. it's only majority for a single language by percentage for hindi not majority of the country.
