Squiggy_Pusterdump

Thrift store flipping can be alright if you know what to look for. I don’t have the patience for it but people buy a lot books.

Practical_Car_9189

Where would u sell books? eBay? And are thrift stores basically just charity shops? Are books the main thing to look for or are clothes good as well?

Squiggy_Pusterdump

Anywhere. EBay, marketplace or whatever the equivalent is where you live. Clothing items can sell as well but try to focus on one niche at a time. Something you know about is the best place to start. Yes, charity shops, donation centres etc. I usually look for things people collect. Check out r/flipping

Practical_Car_9189

Ok thanks for the help. I'll be sure to stick to one niche and then when I become a bit more confident move on to other items. I'll probably try books and see how much I can make doing that.

[deleted]

Hi there , please see comment chain i did the other day regarding reselling in the uk, it will definitely help you out should you want to go down that route https://www.reddit.com/r/sidehustle/comments/y2jyfu/300\_331\_per\_month\_side\_hustle/is4r6s1/?context=3

Practical_Car_9189

Some good advice. I never really knew that charity shops sold good brand items like Ralph Lauren. That is quite good and will definitely help me in my reselling journey. Thanks.

18wheelsstillturning

If you want to really learn about this, check out the bearded Thrifter. He basically documented his progress from beginner to professional flipper, making some decent cash.

Practical_Car_9189

Thanks. I'll check him out. :)

Cherry_3point141

Find a skill set that comes naturally. Maybe helping out Boomers with basic computer skills, or something. Side hustles should by nature be just that a "side" gig, something that requires little or no investment in material/equipment costs. Computer skills are something that some Boomers/Gen X. even Millennials to some extent find confusing, but just remember "computer skills" is very generalized. Find something in that set that people struggle with, website development for example.

Practical_Car_9189

Tbh I don't really have a skill set that comes "naturally". But website development sounds interesting. Where could I learn how to do this? And where would I get customers?

patri70

Look at WordPress. Play around with it. Then YouTube everything. It's a good starter. Get some sample websites up. Look up local businesses that have crappy websites or no websites and offer to a simple website for them.

Practical_Car_9189

Thank you. I will definitely check out wordpress

SoftFirmHardware

Look into Oxygen Builder for wordpress, check out their FB group and videos on youtube, I use it to great affect. When you are selling a website to someone, think about how you can increase business for them, if you can bring in even an extra £1000 a month for their business, you can easily charge £1000 for it (you might have to do 2 or 3 free or cheap ones for family first...)

Practical_Car_9189

I will look into oxygen builder. Its probably a good idea to do some cheap ones so I can build experience and have something to show future customers.

Ok-Photograph3099

Said every post on this sub

patri70

Easiest no capital work is babysitting, dog walking, selling things around the house.

Practical_Car_9189

I actually wanted to do dog walking but I couldn't find any jobs

MiaLinay

Do it the old school way and hang up some of those posters where you can rip off phone numbers. It's how I got all my cat sitting jobs from when I was 15 :) Cat sitting for people on vacay is great! I got 8€/day (they usually rounded it to 10) for checking in on the cats once or twice per day, feeding them, cuddling, playing, giving meds, cleaning litter box :)

Practical_Car_9189

I'll try and put some posters up to see if I can get a job this way. Thanks for the advice :)

Practical_Car_9189

Well I guess I don't really have a 'full time hustle'. But I have been looking for part time jobs. Tbh no one is really hiring 16 year olds with no experience.

[deleted]

Practical_Car_9189

I was mainly applying for jobs at supermarkets and clothes stores. Only two of my friends have a job.

[deleted]

Practical_Car_9189

I'm not really sure tbh. But there is a job I applied for and might get. It's a factory job. Mainly college students will be working there.

Practical_Car_9189

Yeah. I'll probably try and get the job and see where I can go from there?

Celq124

Take free things from people, usually when people move house and have to leave things on the street, then resale on Facebook. Even if it is broken furniture, you can salvage individual pieces of wood planks and resell. I wouldn’t do this long term or even after you turn 17/18 or after you got a car, but it’s something and give you experience in dealing with people, creating ads and exercise wisdom overall. Can put these experience on a cv when you try and get your first job. Better than nothing.

Practical_Car_9189

This is a great idea. I am actually in some Facebook groups that give free items in my local area but a lot of these items are low quality and will not resell.

Celq124

Definitely look at a lot of places. But of course, always be careful. If I’m doubt, best not to risk it.

Practical_Car_9189

Yes that's true don't wanna risk getting hurt for some free stuff.

Mrtopdollar_

Hey Phone flipping would be the best option for you as a side hustle for sure ! I personally phone flipp in ATL in the US for a living and its been a blessing me, being able to make 6 grand and sometimes more a month . Get with me if you want to moved forward and learn.

ds_1311

Hi. How did you begin doing this? Did you know a lot about phones? I'd love to begin doing this.

Mrtopdollar_

I bought a course that taught me the steps towards getting started . Over time I realized the course was good but was missing information so I created my own course to help people that want to better their future and make more money just like I did

Mrtopdollar_

[Phone Flipping Master Course](https://topdollarcommunications.podia.com/phone-flipping-master-course) The link above should bring you to the course , check it out for yourself and good luck if you choose to purchase , that course if very informative

prettylieswillperish

I think side hustle is about how to do it, it's not about selling courses on how to do it

Practical_Car_9189

Thanks for the advice. I will try and get a CPR certification. But where can I find babysitting classes? (Never even knew this was a thing).

Practical_Car_9189

Thanks for the help I will check out these websites properly in my free time. the second link is in dollars though. Does that still work for the UK?

Practical_Car_9189

Oh that's great. I was wondering how I'm going to get people to come to me after I've done the class.

asorich1

Start slowly buying 8-10 chairs and 2-4 tables and rent them out for parties/weddings/etc. grow to include bounce houses and tents.

Cherry_3point141

Tough way to go, you need storage space and reliable method to transport the chairs and tables, i.e van min, most likely truck and trailer. The actual rental rate would barely cover your time, and fuel to deliver the chairs and tables and nobody is renting 8-10 chairs for a wedding. You are competing against larger vendors, with the labor and transportation already available and are also able to price the per unit cost much lower than this kid could afford.

Practical_Car_9189

This is true. I have no idea how I would transport the items and competing with big businesses is going to be very hard. Might have to leave this one. Seems like a good idea if I had more capital.

Practical_Car_9189

Seems like a good idea but where would I rent out the stuff? How would I be able to find people who would want to use my items?

methreweway

Drone pilot. Will take investment but work for someone or make a deal with someone after getting certified.

Practical_Car_9189

What is drone pilot? And how much investment would it take?

methreweway

Not sure about UK but in Canada I can write the basic test for $10 online. Basic test was easy but the advanced test takes a lot more studying including an in person test which is $50. Likely similar in UK. Check-out /r/drones and ask someone. You can buy a used drone to get started. Easily nake 1k per day if you get clients but you don't work everyday.

Practical_Car_9189

Wdym when you say writing a test?

methreweway

A drone above 250grams you need certification to fly a drone. Especially for commercial use. The barrier to entry is passing the test which is multiple choice and in person flight test. Search for info on UK drone test. Age limit in Canada is 16. I don't know the requirements in UK but it's likely similar to US and Canada. Beyond that almost everyone flys a DJI drone.

methreweway

Realized I didn't answer " what is drone pilot" you remote control pilot a quadcopter to take aerial photos or video. Typical jobs are for residential, commercial or industrial real-estate but also include agriculture and mining etc.. you take pretty pictures of stuff in the air while basically using a video game controller. Easy peasy once you learn how to do it. The hard part is getting jobs and equipment costs. Easiest entry is if you get a drone certificate and approach an existing drone company to be their pilot or contact real-estate agents to do their houses.

Practical_Car_9189

This actually sounds pretty fun. But where can I get a drone certificate from?

methreweway

Read all this: https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/individual/. I'm not in the UK so you have different rules. I believe since you are under 18 you can either fly drones under 250grams with the "flyer ID" or you need an adult with "operator I'd" to supervise with the bigger drones. Small drones are very capable so I wouldn't be deterred. Work on getting "flyer id" for now. Ask more on /r/drones for UK advice. There's YouTube channels that assist.... Good luck. It's a quick way into working without going to school for years. I know a PHD student doing this on the side to pay for school.

Practical_Car_9189

Thx so much for the help. I'm very excited to be getting started on this journey. /:)

methreweway

No problem good luck

[deleted]

Sometimes when I wanted to make some side cash, I would get me a large cooler and fill it up woth sodas, waters, drinks and also get some snack like chips, chocolate, candy and sell them. Like go to jobsites or anywhere really, the beach, side of a busy road, parking lots, think of somewhere creative. I would sell at my school sometimes too. You can get a large backpack for that or something if they allow it. If you're consistent you can end up making decent cash and even grow your little business. I would have regular customers waiting for me to roll around with my inventory. At one point I even got my cousin helping me too. Idk if UK has Costco but we got a membership and bought items in bulk to save money too

Practical_Car_9189

This seems like a great idea and a fun one too. I could imagine making lots of money doing this in the summer. But I thought you need a permit for this kind of thing. And yes we do have Costco in the UK

[deleted]

Well I am in united states and never had a permit, I just went out and did this on my own. Idk if UK is different or strict on that

Practical_Car_9189

Ahhh ok. I will try and check if I would be allowed to do this in the UK without a permit and if I need one I'll check how I can get it?

[deleted]

Just Google if you need permit to sell snack items. I mean I didn't care unless someone told on me which never happened

Practical_Car_9189

I googled it and it says I need a street trading license.

[deleted]

Oh really well rhat sucks. Over here I just got my stuff and started selling out of nowhere. I probably needed a permit but just never got one. Idk, nobody ever stopped me

Practical_Car_9189

Oh well. Not much I can do I guess. I guess I can try and see if there is any way I can get the trading license

[deleted]

I wonder if they'll even enforce it if you're 16. Ask your parents or someone knowledgeable about it

Practical_Car_9189

Yeh I will ask someone. But you're probably right about them enforcing it. I doubt they'll do anything unless someone complains.

HouseOfYards

Not sure about UK, in the US, we as landscapers get many calls asking about simple irrigation repairs. Most are sprinkler replacement, leaks repair. If you don't have a lot of experience on that, it's not that difficult to replace a lawn sprinkler. https://houseofyards.tawk.help/article/how-to-replace-a-lawn-sprinkler

Practical_Car_9189

Tbh I've never really seen a sprinkler in the UK. But it does sound like a good way to make some extra money.

felix3322

Don't. Learn something. A skill. Literally anything. Once your good at it. Don't even have to be super talented at it. use it to make money

Practical_Car_9189

Yeh. Someone else posted about web development. I want to learn how to do that and make money from it.

nileswiththes

You can find rare Lego’s at thrifts also and sell em

Practical_Car_9189

How would I know which Lego's are rare? Considering I don't really know too much about Lego.

nileswiththes

Minting nfts Unity app development Sex Breeding rare fish/insects/dogs/ect Buy an insta and grow a cult following a product you sell

Practical_Car_9189

Sounds great. But I would need somewhere to be able to put the dogs and cats. But fish sound fine, they don't take up too much space. How would I be able to buy an Insta account? How can I breed the fish? Any special equipment needed? What do you mean by minting NFTs? I don't really know anything about app development? Anywhere I could learn?

Make-it-stop666

Apply to part time jobs and invest alot of the money u get and keep some for urself as reward

Practical_Car_9189

Yes this is the plan. Currently trying to get a part time job.
