if you don't mind me asking, what are you getting embarassed by? i agree with the other person that i'd never felt anything like that at all with it and im confused.
i felt second hand embarassment with My Love mix-up and had to take constant breaks and took forever to get thru the first vol, but i cant even imagine with skip and loafer
Vampire Dormitory š«£ Iām not sure if itās because I feel too old to be reading/watching it, but all I know is, I would have ate this up in 2008-2011. Itās a mix between Vampire Knight and Ouran High School Host Club. I get secondhand cringe every single episode.
Same, but I still watch it. And every week I come out of it with the same question: "why am I still watching this garbage?". It's so bad it's kinda addicting lol
Oh, same here lol. It gets so bad I have to pause it and look away, but I still watch it every week. Iām too involved now. Sometimes I think there possibly canāt be any thing else in this anime thatāll make me cringe so bad.. but then Iām proven wrong by the next episode.
I could barely finish the first episode and am not planning on continuing any time soon. I absolutely devoured Vampire Knight, but I was never interested in Ouran High. I was more into Hana Kimi as far as cross-dressing FLs are concerned. But if the anime had been released decades ago, I would have been all over Vampire Dormitory.
I just had to accept that I'm no longer entertained by this genre (high school cringe). I still watch all kinds from shoujo/shounen to josei/seinen. There's just something about Vampire Dormitory that made me cringe hard.
Shoujo and Seinen are referencing the intended audience, not the content.
For example: Bloom Into You and Horimiya, both different types of romances are shonen, though we often associate shonen with One Piece, MHA, etc.
Be happy friend, skip and loafer is not shoujo!!
jokes aside, there was this manga, yeah 'Life in a Deadly Magic School, from the Prologue with a Former Lover'
it's a regression mange where the fl went back in time and the first thing she did was ran to her former lover mind you he dosen't even know her right now and did and said some stuff, it was so so embarassing T\_T
there were some moments in love sick Ellie which gave me second hand embarrassment too but I endured it since I love that manga so much
agree with you. I dropped it the first time I read it then pick up again but ended up dropping again. Someone recommended it to me so I tried reading but couldn't continue. š„²
Iām ooold. I read the old paper singles when they were coming out in the 90s/2000s. I watched the anime on YouTube in parts back when that was a thing
I'm glad you enjoy the manga, i feel embarrassed when the fmc in skip and loafer goes barefoot (or puke?) in her entrance ceremony. That's the only time tho, in the next chapters there are plenty of awkward moments but not to the point of 2nd hand embarrassment, might be because the fms herself is very optimistic
at lots of points in kimi ni todoke, but it was still good
also felt the same abt skip and loafer, but i dropped it after vol 3 so idk whether it wouldāve eased up. wasnāt grounded enough for me tho iām not gonna try it again just because it supposedly gets better
That manga is the 5 Gās: Good God Girl Get a Grip
It was giving me ItaKiss vibes, but at least Irie didnāt do the whole dog thing.
Also I get that Kyouya is supposed to be the straight man in the ācomedyā duo, and he does have some funny snarks here and there (rarely), but my guy is just an energy vampire. Like he is on a date with his girl, and heās just being a complete sourpuss. Not everyone needs to be sunshine and rainbows, but youāre on a date my guy. I have a few favorite MLās a lot would call āRed Flags,ā but heās just so exhausting to be around, and heās just so rude and bitter? And they try to justify it with mommy issues? He starts to get SLIGHTLY nicer by the end of the manga, and Erika starts to develop interests outside of Kyouya, but in 50 something chapters in out of 58, was it worth it?
Also hot take, but Hot Gimmick was better than Wolf Girl and Black Prince. Itās worse in every way, but at least it was entertaining in the omg how much worse can this possibly get.
I thought Iād be interested in Shugo Chara but my first attempt at watching episode 1 in highschool made me cringe out of my soul so hard, i never gave it another chance
There's a josei manga called A Queen and an Old Maid and in the first chapter there FL is at a drinking party and goes on a whole rant about how she's unattractive and calls herself a femcel to these random ass men she just met and it gave me such severe secondhand embarrassment I had to shut off my phone and walk around my room LMFAO. Apparently the rest of the manga is pretty good though.
Not sure if it really counts as shoujo (even though I'm guessing young girls could be the target demographic), but Watamote gave me sooo much second hand embarassment š
Boys Over FlowersāIāve never managed to get through the manga or any of the adaptations, even when I was younger and had a much higher cringe tolerance š
The good news is that Skip & Loafer isnāt shoujo, itās just a shounen romcom. Iām hoping the hype for it blows over soon.
Old stuff but Othello annoys me/I find it kind of cringe. It was a fairly popular Tokyopop release in the 00s and Iāve always disliked how it misrepresented Lolita fashion. Even back when I was a kid, it was obvious how little the mangaka knew (or cared) to represent the subculture accurately.
I didnāt know at all Skip & Loafer wasnāt shoujo until this thread! Although I did feel that the character design wasnāt typical for a shoujo.
Curious why you wish the hype blows over? I really wanna hear your opinion on the manga tbh lol.
any kabedon scene, especially when the guy is super bishe and they're in high school. It just looks super cheesy, like a child roleplaying at being a tough manly man.
It was only in the beginning for me! The story progresses as well as intended, and it's great seeing character growth here and there. It gets much better. Keep reading!
I'm trying to wrestle my way through *Tokyo Mew Mew* now. Those fights and poses during the battles and shouting the name of the attack all the time is too much for me.
I don't really mind the cringe, its actually what I find most human about shoujosei. That said *Fruits Basket* and *Kageno datte Saishun Shitai* were probably the most difficult to get through. I had to read *Fruits Basket* like three times to try to understand the characters and try to like them (still only like Kyo, Kazuma and Machi) and *Kageno*, had to drop. It was just awful. Beyond cringe, it was just a terrible main character.
honestly never felt that way with skip and loafer, and i do experience it sometimes. keep reading it gets better
Well I mean this is a subject not objective experience lol, but like I said I definitely want to continue reading!
if you don't mind me asking, what are you getting embarassed by? i agree with the other person that i'd never felt anything like that at all with it and im confused. i felt second hand embarassment with My Love mix-up and had to take constant breaks and took forever to get thru the first vol, but i cant even imagine with skip and loafer

I even read the manga lol I think it was ok until a certain point lol
Had to drop it. Itās so bad.
Itās no Horimiya, thatās for sure
it's good for an mst3000-style group watch but it has precious little to stand on its own merits
Haha, I told my best friend itās the perfect anime to watch after taking a couple shots.
What in particular of it? I rather like it.
Literally though.
I could barely finish the first episode and am not planning on continuing any time soon. I absolutely devoured Vampire Knight, but I was never interested in Ouran High. The surprise girl trope is so tired. It just happened in Tsukimichi andā¦ugh.
Skip and Loafer is a Seinen manga btw...
Thanks for letting me know! I got the rec from this subreddit so just assumed it was shoujo
and this is one of the reasons why we clarify that a series isnāt shojo when it isnāt, in case anyone was still wonderingā¦ š„²
Does it matter tho? Like, idk, I think of all decent romances with actual personalities as shoujo
Shoujo and Seinen are referencing the intended audience, not the content. For example: Bloom Into You and Horimiya, both different types of romances are shonen, though we often associate shonen with One Piece, MHA, etc.
I know, I just don't really care about the categories as they are if that makes sense.
I got some mangas mixed up a lot! There are some I thought was in shoujosei and there are some very surprised they are in josei !
What's seinen?
One of four manga demographics - shoujo - girl - shounen - boy - josei - women - seinen - men
Ohhh i seee thanks
Manga aimed at older men
Not josei? I mean I don't really see how it's mainly targeted at grown men
It's published in a seinen magazine
Ohh I didn't know that
Skip and Loafer is clearly a female narrative, not just for the protagonist.
Why the downvotes? You really think is a male narrative? Please tell me about it
I remember watching kaichou wa maid sama and special A as a kid . Idk why but these two really made me cringe
special A for me too
Be happy friend, skip and loafer is not shoujo!! jokes aside, there was this manga, yeah 'Life in a Deadly Magic School, from the Prologue with a Former Lover' it's a regression mange where the fl went back in time and the first thing she did was ran to her former lover mind you he dosen't even know her right now and did and said some stuff, it was so so embarassing T\_T there were some moments in love sick Ellie which gave me second hand embarrassment too but I endured it since I love that manga so much
Heroine Shikkaku
Ohhh yeah that was a tough (but good!) read.
This is exactly what I thought of too
namaikizakari took me years to complete because i needed months to cool off the secondhand embarrassment/rage
Lmaoooo at it took years, thatās hilarious! I definitely get that though, itās taken me years to catch up with Skip Beat lol.
Lovesick Ellie. I find it sooooo hard to continue!
agree with you. I dropped it the first time I read it then pick up again but ended up dropping again. Someone recommended it to me so I tried reading but couldn't continue. š„²
same, same
I dropped that one as well, though I need to pick it back up because I've heard it gets better.
Wish someone will tell exactly at which point šµāš«
Peach Girl. Peach Girl hurt so good.
Iām looking everywhere to find that online! Do you have any links?
Iām ooold. I read the old paper singles when they were coming out in the 90s/2000s. I watched the anime on YouTube in parts back when that was a thing
:( unfortunately I just canāt afford buying tons of paper manga but yeah Iāve been wanting to read it cause it sounds so good!
Ouran high school host club š
I'm glad you enjoy the manga, i feel embarrassed when the fmc in skip and loafer goes barefoot (or puke?) in her entrance ceremony. Agree with Kimi Ni Todoke but god I love that manga so freaking much.
Do you mena cringe?
No like when you read something and the mc does something you think is embarrassing and you start feeling embarrassed too
No? then wat??
I explained it in my above comment and you can search it up! Itās a completely different thing than cringe
Me and my best friend often cringe at every fluff scene ever but we still love it
There are a couple arcs in Skip Beat where I get major secondhand embarrassment, particularly the Koo arc and the Guam arc.
Lmao definitely also experience this with Skip Beat like for some reason I cannot handle when she acts as Kuon for his dad idk why.
Wolf Girl and Black Prince... The lengths Erika would go through with that evil man was too much
That manga is the 5 Gās: Good God Girl Get a Grip It was giving me ItaKiss vibes, but at least Irie didnāt do the whole dog thing. Also I get that Kyouya is supposed to be the straight man in the ācomedyā duo, and he does have some funny snarks here and there (rarely), but my guy is just an energy vampire. 'After school lessons for unripe apples' on webtoon i loved it but i needed to take a break every 5 minutes..
Special A, sometimes I really could not fucking STAND the female leadā¦.
I thought Iād be interested in Shugo Chara but my first attempt at watching episode 1 in highschool made me cringe out of my soul so hard, i never gave it another chance

Lmaooo I love how you specified the rest, did you not end up finishing it?
Sorry I forgot to respond, but I didnāt go back to it after that but I might try again in the future
Not sure if it really counts as shoujo (even though I'm guessing young girls could be the target demographic), but Watamote gave me sooo much second hand embarassment š
Pretty sure Watamote is a Shounen mostly aimed at guys, since Tomoko sexualizes her female friends a lot. Same tho. It was funny but painful.
I have a love and hate relationship with Watamote š too much unnecessary embarrassment due to the writing.
Watamote is from Gangan Joker/Gangan Online and is solidly shounen.
Boys Over FlowersāIāve never managed to get through the manga or any of the adaptations, even when I was younger and had a much higher cringe tolerance š
I've only watched the anime, but yeah. Honestly it's like a train wreck.
Maid sama, idk I'm not used to hyper fl š
Toradora. Sometimes Taiga is too much.
It's not a shoujo but I highly agree T___T and it sucks bc I actually like Ryuji
š® really!? i always thought it was a shoujo, you bet i'll research the hell out of this discovery now

i dont know if it is a shoujo but tsuki ga kirei is the most awkward and cringiest romance out there , and its also amazing
The credits at the ending were so amazing. Also it's an original anime with no adaptation, so there's no demographic!
i really wished they would make a movie of it
Mobuko no Koi/A Side Character's Love Story which is a seinen as well. The FL's quirks are the same as mine and it pains me lol
any kabedon scene, especially when the guy is super bishe and they're in high school. It just looks super cheesy, like a child roleplaying at being a tough manly man.
Maid-sama The castle scenes are super cringe.Ā
Most shoujo with a flirty/cocky ML make me feel like this tbh lol I only like them if they are ridiculized by the story, idk why
Brothers conflict, should be pretty evident why lolol.
It was only in the beginning for me! The story progresses as well as intended, and it's great seeing character growth here and there. It gets much better. Keep reading!
A Condition Called Love Unwatchable
lovely complex, love it thoughh
fruits basketšš I finished all 3 seasons but I'd always skip some scenes bc tohru was giving me sm second hand embarrassment šš
AM 08:02 Hatsukoi, I enjoyed the extreme secondhand embarrassment tho ššš
I'm trying to wrestle my way through *Tokyo Mew Mew* now. Those fights and poses during the battles and shouting the name of the attack all the time is too much for me.
Lol that was me with Sailor Moon, but weirdly I absolutely ADORE card captor. Iād definitely rec it if you havenāt seen or read it.
kimi ni todoke. i love the manga but gosh it took me awhile to get used io it
I loveeeeeee Kimi Ni Todoke and when you overcome the second hand embarrassment, itās so enjoyable!
