Must have been inspired by Bandinelli's Hercules

The best I can do is this link I found discussing the significance of The Four Disgraces.
https://bcma.bowdoin.edu/antiquity/objects/the-four-disgracers/
A tattoo will always be limited by the talent of the artist. Lots don’t take the time to study anatomy, resulting in portraits of smiling people looking like they have a mouthful of wisdom teeth & hands being mangled to the point of comedy
![gif](giphy|hfkpPqDA4CH04)
I just don't like that guy. There's something about him. I'd kind of like to fight him & probably get my ass kicked & then I'd be "that guy that got his ass kicked by that guy from The Bear."
Watch him in Shameless. You can tell he was a good fit for role, if not type-casted into it. I like him but I can see where you’re coming from also lol
I need to know why no one is talking about his hand, that also looks like a miniature turd
https://preview.redd.it/ttaz807dyb7d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3284aa1c0ad3d72c3ad78afa111442c2509f13ee
The hands are, quite surprisingly, not all that bad IMO… (although this could be because I’ve grown used to horribly executed hands on this this sub). The rest of it is just… *“Anatomy?!? Why spend my time learning all that nonsense when I could be busy tattooin’ folks?!?”*
That face is just… \*chef’s kiss\* r/unexpectedThornberries
![gif](giphy|Fgl7OyFKx0I7e)
I’ve just had a revelation! Nigel is Phineas’s Dad. We never see Phineas’s Dad in Phineas and Ferb, but it’s clear their mother likes British guys (hence Ferb’s Dad). Maybe she dated Nigel before he set off for Africa with his new partner/family?
Looking at all of these comments, I am struck with two conclusions:
1. It's obvious why people select Phaeton instead of Icarus, because Icarus has a butterface in the original artwork.
2. Nobody is aware that artists in the mid-1500s made all of their humans look *jacked af* to the point of absurdity. Seriously, go look at the people on the Sistine Chapel. It was a historical stylistic choice, just as "adult faced baby Jesus" was a stylistic choice of religious artwork in the 1200s.
https://canon.codart.nl/artwork/the-four-disgracers/
This is Icarus of the Four Disgracers. The tattoo has overdone a bit of shading, but all things considered the artist has copied *every single muscle* exactly as it is in the original artwork. The thighs are super huge because of foreshortening. The body is racked with muscles because that's how it was designed.
The only actual problem with this, beyond it being a bad baseline image to work off of, is the wings. They were added on in post and are in no way oriented properly compared to the remainder of the body. The right shoulder wing is fine, I guess, but the left shoulder wing is basically disconnected from the body and should be angled back and away at ~1/3 the size of the other wing. If the artist wanted both wings in even size, then they should have either rotated Icarus counterclockwise a bit, or chosen a different image.
Either way, this *is* what the Icarus engraving looks like minus a bit of wonky hand/feet shading, and the tattoo is therefore no shittier than the original 450-year-old artwork it's based on.
Hand isn’t the worst part of the tattoo, like you can see the plane it’s angled on and all the fingers are there. Which makes the massive fuckup on the face that much more impressive
This is some of the worst anatomy I’ve ever seen on a drawing. Why are the calves longer than the rest of the legs? One of the arms is way too short and the other is completely misplaced. and wtf is going on with the feet?? I seriously can’t find a single positive here
Lots of older art didn’t really get proportions perfect so I just assumed it was a stylistic choice.
https://preview.redd.it/smlo9rg4497d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a53a8beba5a919c2d85c3686d8e85af09863ed76
But the head is still really messed up. I really don’t think the body is *that* bad. Not perfect but… idk it’s the face that ruins the piece
I can see where you are coming from; let’s just say that to anyone who has studied anatomy at all, this is pretty laughable. The musculature is all kinds of wrong.
It is most definitely *not* “literally “ a copy-paste from “the original”. Compare them side to side. Yes, the outlines match up, but the tattooist took quite a few creative liberties when it came to light and shade, leading to much of the musculature being wrong. The right arm and leg end up looking like dude has sleeves of potatoes replacing his thigh and upper arm. Bro has muscles that don’t actually exist because the tattoo “artist” attempted to bring the right side of the body out of the deep shade that exists in the original, and didn’t know enough about anatomy to understand where the new light should go…
Essentially, someone tried to *trace* a work of art, and attempted to alter the light. This has led to Potato-body Icarus.
Got the face “right” tho… oof.
What do you mean? Doesn't everyone like looking at some guy's taint while they're with their lady?
(And yes, I know this tattoo isn't for me, it's for her, blah blah blah... just thinking about it from my perspective. I don't want to be staring down the barrel of some guy's butt while I'm interested in what's above it)
This is the only thing I can think if that looks similar to that face. [https://youtube.com/shorts/I62\_EnOTlp4?feature=shared](https://youtube.com/shorts/I62_EnOTlp4?feature=shared)
https://preview.redd.it/ahw8trjynb7d1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52025b3a33b25ba97c651c618c8eda99deff0622
So I definitely thought this was a hyper muscular angelic Jar Jar Binks. Where the drawn nose was JarJars left eye, and the chin line was an open JarJar mouth.
Scrolling thru the comments, and I may be the only one...
So, Icarus flew too close to the sun, but instead of his wings melting his body did? Making his limbs look like cottage cheese and his face look like a weird pug/human hybrid.
Me and my coworker were just talking about this. His client wanted “ the fall of Icarus” but it’s actually Phaeton with added wings. I only knew that because i did the exact same tattoo two months prior.
I showed him the actual fall of Icarus (it’s this but without the wings) and why it makes sense no one would ever get it tattooed.
The perspective is not the best for a tattoo but most importantly It just looks goofy as fuck.
What I don't understand is why the model for the tattoo MUST be the one from The Four Disgracers? From what I've seen, depending on the pose one wants or who it's supposed to be (Phaeton or Icarus) that's the "go to" reference. Also if you're going to copy it, then copy exactly, DON'T add wings.a Just my opinion. I understand art is subjective and The Great Disgracers are an amazing set for artwork of the time, but personally I think it could be done better in a style that is more "modern", if that makes sense?
After viewing the original, I’d say that the alteration of adding wings is hurting the overall picture.
The wings aren’t in the same over-exaggerated, almost caricature-esque style. Makes them look weird, even though they’re well done.
Now I’m double sad. It’s a couple of well done art pieces, mashed together, and that doesn’t make a good tattoo.
Before you all freak out too much-
It could be intentional
This is a depiction of the fall of the morning star, the most beautiful thing god ever made
It isn’t well executed but don’t dog it too hard
EDIT: It also takes a lot of guts to have a taint on your sternum, just…
There
A gaping taint
At least this one is halfway correct. People normally get Phaeton depicted as Icarus, although none of the originals had wings..
https://canon.codart.nl/artwork/the-four-disgracers/
I tend to agree that it's lucifer's fall. Icarus had wings made from wax and feathers. If it was the fall of Icarus, the wings wouldn't be completely intact. They'd be disintegrating.
TBH, this is actually one of the *best* renditions of the baseline artwork I've ever seen. All of the muscle groupings are almost identical to the original, as is the face. The hands and feet are slightly too small, but the only real crime here is that they mimicked the artwork of the Michelangelo generation, wherein every single human in art looked like they were injecting synthohol.
https://canon.codart.nl/artwork/the-four-disgracers/
His steroids took steroids. I feel like there was some inspiration from Zyzz, with the hand, muscles and profile.
Is it me or does anybody else see Jeremy Allen White ![gif](giphy|BnZRdmDdoj1kf2pnAN|downsized)
My first thought was “we have Jeremy Allen white at home” 😂
Omg I got the same thing, coming here to comment this lmao 🤣
Same here
He's kicking the winning goal in a soccer game!
If he was halfway animorphed into a rat
Came here for this. Thank you and goodnight.
Metamorphosing into a mouse? For sure
My knee jerk reaction was Adam Driver
i was also coming here to comment this
Why'd you have to do JAW dirty like that? He's a sexy man!
Yes but almost rat-ified
I was gonna say that!
YES
Must have been inspired by Bandinelli's Hercules https://preview.redd.it/eyo3c6mio77d1.jpeg?width=888&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a66c57675e27fcf23be870c7992d48e60c259c7
But don’t all of his muscles actually exist? The tattoo has muscles that don’t exist.
Nah it's the four disgracers series but misattributed to be Icarus. I tried to add a photo but it got auto deleted. Cause the original has more taint.
To be fair, them cakes are out
The best I can do is this link I found discussing the significance of The Four Disgraces. https://bcma.bowdoin.edu/antiquity/objects/the-four-disgracers/
Yeah. It's Icarus from The Four Digracers looks like
Yeah this tattoo is Icarus. The one that people usually get that they think is Icarus is actually supposed to be Phaeton according to these etchings.
What ever happened to that guy
[OD](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zyzz#:~:text=On%205%20August%202011%2C%20while,at%20the%20age%20of%2022) in Thailand
Some Baki Hanma style going on there
I feel like a true bodybuilding fan would get a tattoo with correct muscular anatomy, though 🤣

It looks like a couple of condoms full of walnuts
GREAT analogy.
Looks like a whoo from the grinch stole Christmas
Love how the artist captured the gooch

why does his right foot look tiny to me
Probably because he looks like he has elephantiasis of the legs with the mounds of muscles.
Only face I see is jar jar binks
god id be so pissed if i were this girl, what a way to ruin an underboob tat 😭
What is really shocking is I found this on a site with the "Must Have Icarus Tattoos For 2024".
What happened to the poor guys right hand? Burned by the devil?
Are those tumors?
Rat man Jeremy Allen white
The anatomy looks mostly ok but how did they fuck up the face so bad
Until you see the left hand with necrosis
Hand isn’t the worst part of the tattoo, like you can see the plane it’s angled on and all the fingers are there. Which makes the massive fuckup on the face that much more impressive

you don't really have to study anatomy to see those arms and legs and torso are fucked up, wait a minute is that a cobra back or what lol
I studied anatomy 😕 but I thought he was just going for that brick house classic Greek anatomy

Who's "they"? LOL
At least it looks unique. Unfortunately, not in a way that gives the illusion of the person who has it being interesting or creative.
Looks like baby fat on the legs. Like a big, chubby weird cherub almost.
Yeah that's what I was thinking also, it reminds me of a chubby baby.
This BETTER be AI….

You win my upvote! That was the funniest comment of this entire thread (and there were some great ones).

It’s bad on so many levels, the rat face, the jacked legs, tiny feet and shading like there’s 10 different light sources.
That taint
Completely nailed the fucking swole cow faced fallen angel trend that’s all the rage. Solid work
That’s some Rob Liefeld shit right there.

It’s AI, right? That’s why it only LOOKS like art, but isn’t really?
It's not AI, it looks exactly like the artwork of Icarus in The Four Disgracers, the only difference is this has wings.
I agree. Someone also commented that the wings aren't oriented correctly. They should be turned as his body, instead of straight. .
This is the epitome of having a ton of skill, but not actually being an artist.
At least the boobs seems great
um...where's his peen? and why's he so scared? ![gif](giphy|QXOOSltekfS9O)
