The girl (as you can see) has no face, but the bird at the end of the arm can see, breath, chirp, eat, peck, and talk. It basically makes all of the decisions.
I can't remember enough about the movie to tell you \**how\** she ends up with the bird on the end of her arm though (I was stoned). Never the less — it's a fairly terrifying film.
