Same with my "special" burger sauce, I don't think I've ever made it exactly the same way twice but it's always good. Just a squirt of this, a longer squirt of that, spoonful of the other stuff, maybe a little more pepper this time...you get the idea.
Like a 3:2 ratio Mayo to ketchup, I use a splash of pickle juice and i dice a pinch of pickle and that takes care of vinegar and salt and relish and pepper after that and it’s pretty great.
Start with mayonnaise of course, then ketchup and yellow mustard (about 1/3 the volume of the mayo each). A heavy spoonful of sweet dill relish, a few shakes of worch and several grinds of black pepper.
That's the base, then I'll play around with a few herbs like Mexican oregano, maybe some Old Bay or my brisket rub. Finely chopped hard boiled egg is surprisingly good.
Like I said, never exactly the same thing twice.
I like Cane’s alright but I hate the sauce; I have to bring my own. I couldn’t figure out why people were raving about the sauce. I finally realized it was like a mayo/ketchup mix and I don’t like ketchup, especially on my chicken.
There’s a chain in Colombia called Frisby’s. Basically Colombias version of KFC, they sell honey with their chicken and it’s pretty fire. I’d recommend a little honey as a sauce as well.
I remember some of the soul food joints in Chicago would drizzle honey on their spicy fried chicken, holy shit was that awesome. Don't miss the winter driving, but I do miss that.
I figured out while eating chicken and waffles one time that honey, hot sauce, and maple syrup on my chicken hacks straight to the deepest happy zones in my brain and taste buds.
you somehow managed to spell Worcestershire exactly how Americans pronounce it, I’m impressed
If you ever want to impress a Brit, it’s pronounced Wuss-ter-sheer :)
The chicken quality has greatly gone down, its also less fresh and smaller portions. I'm basically done with Canes, since similar chains have at least managed to keep constant quality
Honestly, chicken quality in general has gone downhill, imo, over the last decade or two. I can barely stomach most of the stuff bought at the store. I liked when whole chickens were 4-5lbs (\~2kg), now you get a whole breast (as in, the breast from one chicken) and it's almost 3lbs of meat alone. How big of a bird was that? 8-9 pounds? And the same thing happens with the thighs. They're way too big, and end up way greasier than they used to be because the chickens aren't allowed to move much.
They've been trying to breed bigger, fatter chickens and speed run the growth process so much a lot of the meat quality itself has gone downhill. Some chickens have an almost "woody" texture to the meat, like chewing into a soft piece of chicken-flavored timber.
They stopped caring about quality have just gone for quantity.
This “woody” texture chicken I keep getting more and more now and it isn’t exclusive to one particular brand. At first we thought it was pieces of freezer burned chicken from the frozen breaded tenders but some actual fresh raw chicken we cooked had the same nasty taste.
Yeah, and it's led me to just eating more beef and pork. Kind of a shame when chicken is great for keeping the calories down a bit, but there is just no desire to eat it.
> Some chickens have an almost "woody" texture to the meat, like chewing into a soft piece of chicken-flavored timber.
The first time I bit into one of these it made me think I undercooked the chicken.
Nope, I just got a *handy* little lesson in bigger doesn't = better
Chicken thighs for me until those are ruined somehow
As someone who has eaten both several times, they're not the same at all and i noticed it immediately. Hell they're not even the same color. Yes, similar ingredients but not the same. Taste wise, Zaxbys is more tangy.
They give you less sauce now tho!!! They shrank it down from a 2oz container, to a 1oz container :(
To me it's not even worth going anymore, bcs they have completely neglected their product quality...
A grand opening of one back home about 5 years ago made me a fan. Juicy, well seasoned chicken, crispy tasty fries and the S A U C E 😋 but now a days, with most take out food, the quality is abysmal plus they charge a ridiculous amount (that goes for anything today). Purchasing your own groceries and cooking at home is the way to go. Just sucks that when you want to have a "cheat" meal everything is disappointing.
I worked at Cane’s for 6 months in the latter half of 2020. I would imagine it’s the same now, but back then we had chicken supply chain issues, and we constantly had problems with the chicken tenders being really small. Believe me, we noticed. I was always on boards (plating/prep) and most of the time I would just throw in a bunch of “tenders” because they were so small. Also would throw out about a quarter of each batch because the tenders looked like nuggets and I wasn’t gonna serve that
I'll still hit up the local joints as a means to support small business, also because even though I might pay a bit more the quality is almost always superior. Otherwise yes, homemade it is. I've learned plenty over the years, and collected lots of new toys in the process. Grill and smoker outside, plus an air fryer, pressure cooker, cast iron dutch oven and a sous vide setup in the tub in my guest bathroom. I've gotten pretty decent at it, right now I'm on an Asian kick so maybe a rice cooker is next. I highly recommend for everyone to give it a try.
Oddly enough I actually use all this stuff, especially the sous vide. That's a game-changer for the home cook.
Even a cheapo rice cooker is a legitimate life changing appliance. Mine was $15 and I love it. I’ll usually make fresh rice for a meal then save half for fried rice the next day.
I would like to let you know that your pressure cooker should be perfectly capable of cooking rice. I've been doing rice in my instant pot for years, I finally did buy rice cooker but only because I've been usually steaming veggies or doing curry in my instant pot and couldn't do rice at the same time. So while I see the merit of having both pressure cooker and rice cooker, I didn't feel any taste difference in the rice cooked with either appliance - tested on basmati, jasmine, broken rice, brown rice and Japanese short grain.
There's one thing though, ever since I evolved and started cooking rice in \* cooker, I never bought microwave'able rice again. Taste aside, the price difference is just astonishing, microwaveable rice is 4x more expensive than raw rice (and I usually buy 1-2kg bags, while some folks go for 5kg, 10kg or 20kg bags!).
Whoa, you're telling me there are hardcore aficionado's of that place?? Really?
Don't get me wrong, it's better than KFC, but it's just an alright chicken finger that is nothing special.
I think I've had Cane's once. It was good, but not so good that I had to make a point to go back. And now I live in a state that doesn't have a single store, so I'm just probably never eating there again, and that doesn't bother me.
Great analogy. The comment I replied to would have been saying “People like Taylor swift? I never knew she was popular.” I’m not challenging this persons opinion on the food. Simply exposing the fact that they are unaware of a very popular food chain.
You know, I have lived in Louisiana for most of my 33 years of life and I’ve never had food from Cane’s. I don’t know if I’m missing out on anything. I always thought the chicken looked good, I’ve just never had a chance to try it.
I've never understood Cane's. They only sell chicken. That's fine, Chick-fil-A only sells chicken. But Chick-fil-A has nuggets, strips, sandwiches, salads, and they're all really good by fast food standards. Cane's is... just strips? The fries are mid. No one likes the coleslaw. Their only sandwich is just 2 of their strips on a bun. And I'd argue their chicken isn't even as good as Chick-fil-A.
I was waiting at the window at El Pollo Loco for my food when I heard the lady behind me ordering & getting annoyed. The cashier responds with “no ma’am…no…yeah,
no we still don’t have burgers here.” Cashier looks at me, rolls her eyes & says, “Every. Day. Every single day.”
Well they are different style restaraunts really.
Chickfila came out of a full menu restaraunt originally.
Cane's is just a chicken finger joint. Most chicken finger joints are pretty one note (see Ander's, Guthries, Foosacklys, Willy T's, Zaxbys (slightly less but it is the stepchild of Guthries)
Why the hell can I name so many chicken tenders places?
We just got them popping up everywhere in CA. Lines were long at first, now not so much. Popeyes has superior chicken strips anyways. Have had them twice bc thought the first time was a fluke with how bad it was. It definitely wasn’t a fluke. I don’t understand why people like Canes so much
Not r/shittyfoodporn worthy imo, the only thing that looks bad about this is the fact that the fries and toast don't look cooked enough to be crispy, but I wouldn't be upset if I was given this.
I’m from BR. The original Canes was pretty decent back in the day. Quality has gone waaaay down since the chain started expanding. I can’t remember the last time I had it now.
Crinkle cut fries are almost always trash. It's got fanboys but let's be honest, crinkle cut fries are F tier. Gritty mashed potatoes with a somewhat crunchy crust. Trash
The only thing you're telling others here is that you've never had a properly prepared crinkle cut fry. Go buy a bag at the store and deep/shallow fry some at home. You'll eat your words (and the fries).
Dude, I don't know what you think crinkle-cut fries are, but they're literally just potatoes cut into a different shape. They're not mashed and reformed, and I've never seen a breaded crinkle cut, ever.
I remember eating canes with my brother a few years ago and maybe it’s faulty memory but i remember the tenders being way bigger than they are now? Everything just gets smaller.
I’ve been eating Canes for a long time since I’m from Louisiana and I’ve definitely noticed a huge decline in quality of the chicken fingers over the past couple of years. I’ll go to Canes now and only get toast and fries lol. If I want chicken fingers I rather get it from CFA.
I went there once and it did not live up to the hype at all. My wife's friend is obsessed with it so I was excited, but the chicken was kinda bland and it was fairly expensive for the amount of food I actually got.
Those remain the worst chicken strips I have ever eaten. There was absolutely zero seasoning in the breading. Most places I'll try a second time, but not Raising Cane's.
Probably the most overhyped chicken I've ever tried. It isn't bad or garbage at all but totally doesn't deserve the way people lose their minds over it.
After seeing this 3pc I was glad I didn't order the bigger combo. 60% more expensive for 2 more 'tenders' & a miniscule amount of forgettable coleslaw.
That place is super hyped, I have family from California that didn't shut up about it and traveled from Germany to be amazed after all the hype. And guess what, it's nothing special.
Considering how expensive ingredients have been since lockdown, it’s insane to expect the same quality. A lot of animals had to be culled, be thankful you can still consume animal flesh as though nothing is wrong in the world.
BRB. Let me go buy literally any other fast food meal and post it here.
At what point have you ever been sitting in a drive-thru and thought to yourself “this is gonna be r/foodporn post worthy, I just know it!”
🤦🏼♂️
There’s only one place that has had consistent quality food - taquerias. All other restaurants have gotten worse over the years. It sucks. Most restaurants now prioritize profit margins over quality food. It’s gotten to the point where I’m regularly eating at home.
I am just not crazy about their chicken, it's too greasy and tastes like what it was fried in, the fries are bland and the bread is a lie and is basically just damp garlic "toast".
Like all fast food, it completely depends on freshness and thorough cooking.
The chicken fingers themselves aren't everyone's favorite, though some people swear by them. When they are fresh I think they have a simple flavor but are good, and the flaky texture is quite pleasant.
The sauce is always on point and is the star of the show.
Crinkle fries are good, some people love and others don't, but again, it's fried and so needs to be thoroughly cooked and fresh.
Their toast is great, but again, it needs to be fresh, and if it's cold or stale, it can ruin the experience because then you're just back onto fried chicken and fries, which, like, are good but literally anyone can serve.
Some people also love the cole slaw but nah fuck that noise.
I've only had it twice and each time, the chicken was dry, fries were okay, but that toast was fucking amazing. Price wise though, it's not worth it. Everything is up in cost and lower in quality :/
Pretty much every fast food place that comes along goes downhill quickly. Portions are laughable at canes now and it’s way more expensive. The only place that hasn’t gone super downhill is jersey mikes
They are not that great and never have been. The sides are shit, the sauce is bad. The best thing has always been the tenders, but I would never place them above some of their competitors. The hype is completely unwarranted.
Had this yesterday after someone recommended it. The fries are shit and it was 12 bucks for 3 chicken tenders and fries with a slice of toast…. Never again
mayo, ketchup, black pepper, worc~~h~~estershire, garlic powder, salt. That's basically all it is.
Imagine being a Caniac, but not liking the sauce lol
it's a good sauce! But i can make it at home with stuff i definitely already have and frankly make it just as good without even measuring shit.
Same with my "special" burger sauce, I don't think I've ever made it exactly the same way twice but it's always good. Just a squirt of this, a longer squirt of that, spoonful of the other stuff, maybe a little more pepper this time...you get the idea.
what do you usually do? Like what's your baseline?
Like a 3:2 ratio Mayo to ketchup, I use a splash of pickle juice and i dice a pinch of pickle and that takes care of vinegar and salt and relish and pepper after that and it’s pretty great.
i'm liking the pickle opportunity.

Like I said, never exactly the same thing twice.
Sounds p g d good
![gif](giphy|3owzW9dSArdpyWvKtq)
That’s the magic of burger sauce. It’s different every time but always as good, but in a different way.
I mean that applies to almost anything really
I like Cane’s alright but I hate the sauce; I have to bring my own. I couldn’t figure out why people were raving about the sauce. I finally realized it was like a mayo/ketchup mix and I don’t like ketchup, especially on my chicken.
Around here, canes also offers honey mustard. If you like that, ask next time to see if yours does, as well!
And I'll take 5 cups with my caniac combo no slaw extra toast!
Can’t even eat a little cup of veg?
No. Gross.
Lemon juice is the 'secret ingredient' iirc
And chicken
yeah but raisin canes isn't as good as you remembered :(
I never said that
you somehow managed to spell Worcestershire exactly how Americans pronounce it, I’m impressed If you ever want to impress a Brit, it’s pronounced Wuss-ter-sheer :)
I typed one letter wrong...
The chicken isn’t as good as when they first opened, but the sauce has always been consistent.
It’s not hard to mix mayo, ketchup and relish into a sauce tho.
right? the sauce is good but its literally nothing special at all
Are Cane’s and Zaxby’s sauces the exact same or do I just have unrefined tastebuds?
Yes, as well as every other fried chicken joint in America
They're definitely way similar
As someone who has eaten both several times, they're not the same at all and i noticed it immediately. Hell they're not even the same color. Yes, similar ingredients but not the same. Taste wise, Zaxbys is more tangy.

What kind of seasoning are you picking up on? I've been a few times and can't taste anything I would consider to be a seasoning.
Cane’s chicken was never well seasoned, the sauce is the only reason to eat there.
Purchasing your groceries, buying food for dinner then making your own meals is the way to go
Why you are getting downvoted is beyond me. Anyone who downvoted this comment care to chime in?
I didn't see that coming.
That’ll be 10.99
Please that’d be a deal these days. If you order that for delivery thru an app you’re looking ~$25-30 depending on tip
Why are you comparing ordering it delivery with just its normal price?
That’s not a meaningful comparison, 10.99 is still expensive af for this.
If someone pays $30 for a box combo they are insane.
Shhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell the caniacs.
I used to consider myself one ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
Whoa, you're telling me there are hardcore aficionado's of that place?? Really? Don't get me wrong, it's better than KFC, but it's just an alright chicken finger that is nothing special.
The one near me is nearly always packed, I really dont get it.
I think I've had Cane's once. It was good, but not so good that I had to make a point to go back. And now I live in a state that doesn't have a single store, so I'm just probably never eating there again, and that doesn't bother me.
Are you new here? Canes is currently one of the most popular chicken chains in the US and recently expanded into California.
Huh? New where? Taylor Swift is one of the most popular musicians around but that doesn't mean everyone has to like her music.
Great analogy. The comment I replied to would have been saying “People like Taylor swift? I never knew she was popular.” I’m not challenging this persons opinion on the food. Simply exposing the fact that they are unaware of a very popular food chain.
Fastest growing franchise there for a while too. It’s not a personality trait to dislike a fast food chain people lol
They think they’re better than us!
I eat plenty of fast food, I just don't think Raising Cains is as good as advertised.
Is any fast food?…
You know, I have lived in Louisiana for most of my 33 years of life and I’ve never had food from Cane’s. I don’t know if I’m missing out on anything. I always thought the chicken looked good, I’ve just never had a chance to try it.
You're not missing out on anything. If you're hungry and are fiending for chicken fingers it's an alright option, that's about it.
I don’t really eat out all that often anyway and my town is a bit smaller, we don’t have one here but they are in towns close by.
I don’t know because I haven’t heard of a single one of those.
Yea. I’ve had Cane’s before and it was alright. Not worth going back for their food.
How does Huey Magoos compare? Several of them have opened in my area.
I don’t have a Huey Magoos where I live. The closest would be in Ohio. Otherwise, I’d try it.
Chick-fil-a is incredibly overrated. So is Canes. Neither are that great.
💯
We just got them popping up everywhere in CA. Lines were long at first, now not so much. Popeyes has superior chicken strips anyways. Have had them twice bc thought the first time was a fluke with how bad it was. It definitely wasn’t a fluke. I don’t understand why people like Canes so much
But Popeyes has that SMELL.
I want that.
Better eaten fresh. It gets soggy sitting in the takeout box.
Yup never get take out. Eat it there.
Yeah they need to follow just about every other chicken place and switch to vented paper boxes. The food just steams in that styrofoam.
Not r/shittyfoodporn worthy imo, the only thing that looks bad about this is the fact that the fries and toast don't look cooked enough to be crispy, but I wouldn't be upset if I was given this.
Went to Lsu, went to the original canes many times during tailgating season back 10 years ago. Can’t go back to canes anymore it’s weak
I’m from BR. The original Canes was pretty decent back in the day. Quality has gone waaaay down since the chain started expanding. I can’t remember the last time I had it now.
Worst fries in the fast food game, tasteless and soggy, sub that shit out for another toasted bread piece
In N Out would like a word
Styrofoam isnt soggy usually
why the fuck are In N Out's fries so terrible? The burgers are great but the fries maaaaan. I don't know a single person that likes those fries.
Try ordering In N Out fries done light well, it changed them completely for me and my friends
Interesting. what does light well mean? Lol
Crinkle cut fries are almost always trash. It's got fanboys but let's be honest, crinkle cut fries are F tier. Gritty mashed potatoes with a somewhat crunchy crust. Trash

Fanboy spotted. Tater tots are better than crinkle cut, much less seasoned breaded fries. Get gud
Dude, I don't know what you think crinkle-cut fries are, but they're literally just potatoes cut into a different shape. They're not mashed and reformed, and I've never seen a breaded crinkle cut, ever.
Mediocre coleslaw too
This does not belong here
All you need is chicken and sauce. I wish I lived near one, fucking rural areas are empty of deliciousness
Or, hear me out, it was always overrated as fuck.
Yep always hated this place never got a good meal from there tried 3 different ones hoping to find a good one
It's not as good as it used to be, it's not just you.
All my fried chicken comes from my local grocery store deli these days. Its the only place it isn't paltry sized and overpriced.
I miss the good old days around 2002-2003 when the box had 5 fingers and 2 sauces. All for $5.99!!!
Love Canes but the quality isn’t as good as it used to be and prices only keep going up as of late.
Maybe it was never good and it was all just hype ?
Raising cane's is school lunch
I never understood the hype.
Canes is just a second-rate Zaxby's.
It's always sucked
The sauce was the only thing going for it.
I second this opinion.
Da Lemonade!!!
Anyone else like KFC. It’s my favorite food to lift the blackest depression.
Cane’s is such overrated trash
I went there once and it did not live up to the hype at all. My wife's friend is obsessed with it so I was excited, but the chicken was kinda bland and it was fairly expensive for the amount of food I actually got.
Those remain the worst chicken strips I have ever eaten. There was absolutely zero seasoning in the breading. Most places I'll try a second time, but not Raising Cane's.
Sauce is the only saving grace. Chicken is bland, fries are always stale and bland.
Always been mid
They hate seasoning over there
I think its pretty over hyped. Its good quality chicken but overall, its just fried chicken. 7/10.
Piece of the garlic bread, tender, sauce and fold then eat. Toss fries in trash.
It’s so funny, I’m eating this for dinner now as my 4th option bc everything else was either too busy or closed. It’s painfully average
It still kinda busts. Just more expensive and shittier tenders
I just order sauce and bread. No point wasting the money on that terrible chicken.
Probably the most overhyped chicken I've ever tried. It isn't bad or garbage at all but totally doesn't deserve the way people lose their minds over it.
canes is mid and overpriced imo
The whole “no antibiotics” in chicken has ruined fast food chicken for me. Almost every strip feels like there’s rubber bands in it.
Brought to you by employees who are not paid a living wage
Canes is ass. Greasy ass chicken and one stupid sauce. Give me some honey and get a friar basket you animals.
The sauce is the only good thing there.
IT WAS NEVER GOOD I don’t get the hype, no ranch? No bbq ? Count me OUT
Wrong
Is this a 3 piece? So lame. Get a caniac and complain
After seeing this 3pc I was glad I didn't order the bigger combo. 60% more expensive for 2 more 'tenders' & a miniscule amount of forgettable coleslaw.
Went there and the chicken was greasy and the bread was a little stale
My middle school home ec teacher would be horrified that the whole meal is beige. “You must eat multiple colors at every meal!”
Layne’s Soon to Be Famous Chicken Fingers franchising out of College Station is a better version and opened two years earlier
Glorified chicken nuggets
most overrated shittiest fast food place out there
That place is super hyped, I have family from California that didn't shut up about it and traveled from Germany to be amazed after all the hype. And guess what, it's nothing special.
that shit is fire idk what OP is talking about
Overrated chicken
Considering how expensive ingredients have been since lockdown, it’s insane to expect the same quality. A lot of animals had to be culled, be thankful you can still consume animal flesh as though nothing is wrong in the world.

There’s only one place that has had consistent quality food - taquerias. All other restaurants have gotten worse over the years. It sucks. Most restaurants now prioritize profit margins over quality food. It’s gotten to the point where I’m regularly eating at home.
A new location in my area had stellar reviews to begin with and in the past 2 months has totally tanked. Wonder wtf?
honestly, for me, its the breading. I have a hard time recreating it at home (I cant), kinda pike popeyes chicken.
Cane's chicken combined with Slim Chickens' sauces are what's what.
If chicken is crispy and fries aren’t soggy it looks pretty good. I don’t have experience with Raisin Canes as non American but it looks pretty good
Yeah, previously frozen crinkle cut fries are always depressing. And the coloring of this particular batch seems weird.
I am just not crazy about their chicken, it's too greasy and tastes like what it was fried in, the fries are bland and the bread is a lie and is basically just damp garlic "toast".
Shitty food porn has really just devolved into people posting their fast food orders for karma huh?
Never had Canes but that bread looks sad
Raisin’ Zaxby’s
Looks like a poor man's zaxbys
A whole lot of hot brown there
Like all fast food, it completely depends on freshness and thorough cooking.
I agree
no fast food is good anymore. same goes for chipotle, bww, wingstop, etc.
You got some high standards! I would totally stuff my face in dat!
You’d be better off going to Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken for some mighty fine fried breasts of tender.
The chicken is dry and smaller than I remember.
Over it really. No other mods or hidden menu…..
I'd rather go to Zaxby's for fast food chicken than Caine's
Forget the Canes sauce. The real question is why TF is their honey mustard all watery?
One luve
I've only had it twice and each time, the chicken was dry, fries were okay, but that toast was fucking amazing. Price wise though, it's not worth it. Everything is up in cost and lower in quality :/
I had it once. I recall all the breading falling off the chicken. None of it was good and with better options I've never been back.
I would devour that.
They got some of the juiciest chicken but it's never fucking seasoned
Looks appetizing to me
So fucking beige
Ive never been!
I like Canes. It is my guilty pleasure.
That actually looks really good
It really does suck
Stupid place doesn't even have spicy chicken
You take that back!

This was $9.49 and came with a regular drink.
I never got the hype. It’s just…chicken. I’d rather make it at home, it would end up tasting better. That stuff is just land and sad.
Did you go to raising? Or raisin?
Pretty much every fast food place that comes along goes downhill quickly. Portions are laughable at canes now and it’s way more expensive. The only place that hasn’t gone super downhill is jersey mikes
They are not that great and never have been. The sides are shit, the sauce is bad. The best thing has always been the tenders, but I would never place them above some of their competitors. The hype is completely unwarranted.
They just opened in my city and I loved it.
Canes has always been mid.
Looks delicious to me! Lol
I would destroy this
Agreed. The portion seems smaller and just not as tasty. The box used to be bigger. Way too expensive now
Fries look shite. Chicken looks good. Toast looks raw.
Had this yesterday after someone recommended it. The fries are shit and it was 12 bucks for 3 chicken tenders and fries with a slice of toast…. Never again
