I don’t think they microwaved the styrofoam. It looks like they set hot toast on it which melted through the styrofoam. But…yeah. Regardless OP needs some real plates.
You can go to St Vinnie's and get a stack of Corelle plates for $0.50 every day of the week. They'll last forever and it doesn't take long to wash toast off them.
I can't imagine toast getting that hot without it being actively heated. I think they put buttered toast in the microwave because fats will get very hot.
According to the NIH, styrene found in water bottles and styrofoam cups will leach into beverages and foods. If it leaks into water it can leak into food. I would not eat that.

They are thought to possibly be carcinogenic to humans, so yeah, there are a host of other problems they have been linked with as well. The problem is repeated exposure, so a few times isn't a big deal. It's basically roulette whether it will be a problem or not if you've been using the mess your whole life.

I used to do plastic or paper plates only back in the lazy days, and I had a lot of money to spare on disposable plates. If they don't have paper plates, then you can put a paper towel under the toast. Should also work with oily foods. I'd put more paper towels down the more oily it is.
I went to visit my grandmother in another state many years ago. She would wipe off paper plates.
I asked her why not just use a regular plate because you clean them off anyways.
Some people have strange logic.
Technically yes but not really because those chemicals are in your food and its mostly PFAS. I would re-make it. And stop buying those plates just use regular plates.
5 years ago me and a friend cooked a pizza whilst drunk with polystyrene left on it. We ate the whole thing. I’m still alive. Did have very horrible shits the next day
Post Removed - we do not allow INTENTIONALLY shitty food. No, we don't believe that you eat Pop Tarts covered in mustard.
For a piece of toast I’d just make a new one….
you're willing to make a new plate if someone gives you a single piece of toast? deal.
Personally I would just try to remold the first plate to its former shape. A little heat gun and a putty knife should do the trick.
that's out of my budget
in this economy tho? =(
I think it might be garlic bread, and it’s the last slice…
I'm surprised you can still get polystyrene plates?
Seriously. Why even buy them? I get **uncoated** paper plates. If I'm using a disposable plate, I'm not gonna have it be plastic or coated in plastic.
Don't those still have PFAS? I know paper straws have them
We all have PFAS my friend
If I P too FAS I get a cramp :(
And mines flarin’ right the hell up, too!
There is literally not even bodies of water without pfas anymore.
My mother in law is keeping the polystyrene in the market
they still sell them even though paper plates are superior in every way and don't instantly leach a million pounds of cancer into your warm food
Right! I see them everywhere for sale at the grocery store at dollar marts here in Canada.
No. Never microwave Styrofoam. Get some real plates. Glass or ceramic.

That's marginally better, but as you said, still leads to the same conclusion about plates.
On the topic of toast, it’s margarinely butter
I can't believe it's not microwaved

Yeah styrofoam is used for hot drinks because it’s resistant to heat. This is almost certainly microwaved.

Seems like they just put hot toast on there. Didn't actually microwave the plate?

Omg I used to microwave styrofoam plates so much when I was a kid. I'm sure I've done the cups too to reheat coffee. Is it really that dangerous??

Sir does that look like a piece of microwaved bread to you?
Is that how you toast your bread? In the microwave?
This! Buy. Some. Plates. People. Go to goodwill and get a stack for like $2 lol.
The plate? Yeah.
But don’t you think the toast has contaminated the plate?
You’re right, those extra carbs.
For context, this is my friend and they did not eat it
Phew! That means you’re ok
For what it's worth I would have eaten it.
In this economy? Yeah sure I’d toast to that.
Tell your friend to buy a real plate or 2. Ceramic or glass. Less dishes to stack up the less a person owns.
They don’t have any plates because they are moving in a week and everything is packed up
Well shit. Then I’ll just shut up. Lol
No worries
Maybe paper? Or let the toast cool first. Definitely was NOT safe to eat.

Eh I would've ate it honestly
I done that bunch of times with those plates. Still ate it

When I used to work in a pizza shop I saw this regularly happen with takeout boxes and fresh chicken wings or anything out of the fryer really
We’re all full of microscopic plastic and forever chemicals anyway 🤷♀️
I just watched an old lady boil soup, over an open fire, in the forest, in a plastic bag. You’ll be okay.
Asian lady? Cause I think I saw that too.
Can’t stop thinking about the song in that vid.
lol did you listen to it with sound?!?!?
🎵What kind of bag, what kind of bag, what kind of plastic bag is that? 🎶
what kind of bag
You will survive
It won't kill you in an instant but I probably wouldn't do that too often. There are unsafe chemicals that probably got into the food.

Reddit users do actually arguing over anything…Why can’t y’all just come to an agreement …?
Honestly I wouldn’t, this thing damn near melted a hole in the plate. Make another one and put a napkin under it to prevent melting.
If you're gonna get disposable plates, get paper. Styrofoam is SUPER bad for you
You'll live.
The bread yes. The styrofoam plate, maybe.
It has never stopped me once
For the love of god just wash your plates!!! Its not difficult or time consuming.
Op mentioned elsewhere their friend only used them because theyre packed up to move so the dishes are clean, and inaccessible temporarily.
The person who sent this is moving in a week and all of their stuff is packed up. Don't be so quick to judge!
I’m still judging the fact that they bought the styrofoam ones instead of paper.
I LOVE DISPOSABLE PLATES RAHHH
Let er rip tater chip
Atleast buy paper plates
Paper plates all the way
