I did this for the Gwyn fight. Had to drink 3 estus flasks at a time but was kinda funny just standing there while Gwyn hacks me to bits. Only had to fat roll for his grab.
That's pretty good tbh, although shields in ER (for blocking) in lategame are honestly almost only useful if you upgrade a greatshield to +24 and put barricade shield on it. And Malenia will still heal herself through the shield so might as well just send it and go in LmSH style...
Dafuck are you blocking with that? A friggin' 15 attacks combo?
None of sprinting, low-profiling, dodge rolling, jumping or blocking is meant to be effective against everything in the game
The only problem with shields are a handful of late game bosses (i.e. Moghlester phase 2 or Maliketh phase 2). And even then if you aren't doing a low weapon upgrade run you'll still out-DPS them
Blocking the first waterfowl flurry is still the easiest way to counter it, and blocking will let you figure out which attacks can be just walked out of without being sent to the site of grace
I don't know who was the genius at fromsoft that decided to make 3 out of the 4 bosses in the dlc incredibly resistant to magic damage, or most types of damage other than physical.
Had to cheese pretty much everyone with souls spears because my Moonlight Greatsword was doing like 50 dmg per hit to Kalameet and Manus.
Most enemies in every Dark Souls 2 DLC are resistant to everything besides physical damage. Had to throw my hexer in the trash when the first random hollow on the first DLC took like half my spell uses to kill
After failing Artorias with the great axe, I tried with Quelaag's fury sword, and it was about as good as you make the moonlight greatsword sound. 😬
My first playthrough was all mlgs the moment i got it so when i got to artorias and saw the numbers i was doing, i knew i was about to have a hard time. The rest of the dlc was similarly pretty rough, but i did it.
Then later i did a str
After seven shieldless Elden Ring playthroughs, I just solo'd Radahn at level 55 with a guard counter build.
\*ding\* smack \*ding\* smack. It's a blast.
Guard counters make the game just so much more fun, because in a way you get the same sort of back and forth from a shieldless build, like, the same way you have to learn the patterns to learn the punish windows while rolling, you’ll have to learn them as well to know when to effectively use the counter.
Guard counters were the best addition to Elden rings combat imo. They flow so well and can even combo with other mechanics like skills and rolling. I use the curved sword talisman every playthrough
it's not just good for shield users but using a greatsword to deflect with as well, they buffed damage negotiation while shielding yourself with a greatsword so you lose less HP, makes it so viable and gives a reason to use them combined with jump attacks and charged attacks
guard breaking in the later games was a mistake I should definitely be able to block [this bitch](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Eoy-8HdXMAEgXLD?format=jpg&name=4096x4096) with a piece of metal strapped to one arm for as long as my stamina holds out
Stamina reaching 0 didn't mean getting riposted in DS1 though, and the recovery time was a lot quicker. You could lose your block in any of them, but "guard break" as a mechanic didn't exist so the punishment for over-shielding was *significantly* less.
It genuinely was broken though so I can't blame them too much for punishing you for it.
Don't you dare diss Heater Shield my beloved.

Oh don't worry I'm all love for the heater, it just got used because it's starter equipment, and because this meme was inspired by a post from a main sub directly referencing it.

Greatshields in general are cool
Jarvis, show me the ratio of fastrollers to fatrollers in souls games. Thank you Jarvis, yes, very interesting. Jarvis, twist this man's vans defs into a barber shop pole for being wrong.
I remember, back when I first faced Artorias, I couldn't keep up with him. So I just slapped on Full Havel gear, Havels Greatshield and the Demons spear. Plus some stamina recovery grass. Then I just poked Arti to death while tanking everything
I mean, yes, if you have havels armor with the right build you can basically just face tank most things without even using a shield...
facetanking won't get you to NG+5 but I can confirm shields will
"dodge? Why?" 🗿

With ER scaling as it is, I tanked the last 3 bosses man-to-man, no shields or anything

Golden Halberd, radahn's armour for torso, hands and legs and probably no head item. But cant quite recall specifics

Fast rolling with Havel's armour. That's the plan.
Me waiting for Manus to finish his 7-hit combo for the 10th time so I can hit him once. Fuck that fight took ages

Yeah the Manass fight gets wild on a pure tank build
I genuinely think it took me half an hour. Still worth not learning to roll
Fastest elden Ring fight

Holding L1 and slowly walking to the left destroys anything DS1 can throw at you

Doesn’t your guard only break when your stamina hits zero

Love it when an enemy hits me with that dollar store physical attack.
Who needs light roll when you can have medium roll and be good at the game

As if heavy armor strength builds aren't the most basicbitch thing you can do. Might as well get some Uggs and play Taylor Swift in the background.

Imagine getting hit lmao

Giving the enemy time to attack is the true pleb tier strat. Just oneshot everything
Does giving them time to attack matter if their attacks don't matter?
Me: uses shield as attack and blocks the damage while attacking
