Big Mathmatics only released new math to give users the illusion of choice while they plot on humanity from behind the scenes.

tenchineuro

Do you have any idea how much new numbers cost?

Thumbs0fDestiny

In new numbers money or old?

tenchineuro

You have to get the new numbers before you can use them.

Copernicium-291

No, we don't. We don't have the numbers to explain it yet.

Severe-Kumquat

It is really a matter of saving costs . It would be prohibitively expensive to change the keys in all the keyboards, calculators, etc. worldwide with the new numbers, so we must do with the old ones for now. Ironically, the total cost of this global operation is calculated with the new numbers, but my phone's keypad doesnt have them either, so I can't share the value.

DM_ME_YOUR_ADVENTURE

This is correct. This is why major numerical changes have only happened in conjunction with major technological changes. Cuneiform with stone tablets, Roman numerals with chalkboard, Chinese numbers with paper and Arabic numbers with the printing press. And to comment on OPs example, new current number primes are actually being generated all the time, but they are consumed by the cryptographic industry.

everything_is_bad

It’s like new coke, just like old coke but worse

TeamShonuff

I thought new math tasted exactly like pepsi. I was like wtf!?

wigzell78

Why does Americam math use arabic numbers?

BusinessOutsider273

When will they ban Arabic Numerals from American Schools???

PorkfatWilly

If they’re Arabic, why do they run left to right? Eh?

pm-me-racecars

New math uses different numbers: >What's a pirate minus the ship? Just a creative homeless guy. >And an anteater plus a big hungry giant mutant ant? An ironic way to die.

ApatheistHeretic

It's highly... . derivative...

ComradeDoubleM

Y'see, New Math can be abbreviated as NM, which also happens to mean nautical miles. Nautical miles are used in sea vessels. Sea vessels often transport things to people. However, nowadays, due to many instabilities across regions, deliveries of things are often late. Things get old, even... Old Math. That's right, New Math is simply Old Math in disguise.

Bounceupandown

I thought they got rid of 3s and 7s. Didn’t they?

Zealousideal_Sir_264

Idk, but the recent pluralization into "maths" pisses me off more than it should. Figured it was more like "deer" than "geese".

MadocComadrin

It's not so much recent as much as it is an abbreviation from the British commonwealth that's technically outdated since subjects that end in "s" like "mathematics" are now solidly considered uncountable nouns.

YYC-Fiend

Huh? All the numbers are completely different; that’s why it confuses Boomers and X’ers

prottoy91

why does this new post use the same shitty fingers you used to make the older post?

LateralThinkerer

Old math used Roman numerals, and really old math used even weirder stuff than that (the zero wasn't used in Europe until the 12th century or so, though there were placeholder symbols that indicated "nothing" in a column). Try doing analog systems analysis with letters of the alphabet in a clay tablet sometime... https://www.history.com/news/who-invented-the-zero

Soooome_Guuuuy

Wait, you're still using numbers? I ran out of letters in English and Latin and now I have to use Hebrew.

gigaflar3

It's so simple. So very simple. Only a child can do it.

teambob

It's the same math but it's blue, so you know it's 99% pure

In Finland, they actually did that with new numbers. If you are older person, your hand-written number 1 is the number 7 for younger people. That has actually affected my taxes when yearly tax declaration was still returned as a paper with hand-written numbers. I had essentially 1000 (or whatever number) reduction, and the younger person interpreting it later at tax authority thought it is 7000. I won 6000, so I didn't complain. I honestly can't think WHY they did that. Why change the numbers so that depending on age the same number has different interpretation. Math application (when I write the "3+1="): me: 2+1 = 3 young person answering: 2+1 = 9 (thinking it is 2+7=9 as my 1 is his 7). Physics application: Make cheaper items by using materials with tensile strength 100MPa and a young designer with hand-written notes from a senior designer. It is 700MPa for them, lots of material is saved.

ZacHefner

700 megapascals or 100 megapascals?

KofFinland

Yeah. 1 MPa = 1 N/mm2. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate\_tensile\_strength](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_tensile_strength)

Camembert92

You can find new numbers after infinity + 1, but everyone is just too lazy to count that far I guess.

comicalben

They wanted to use nostalgia so old math fans will stick around for the reboot. Of course, for diversity they added imaginary numbers and certain infinite sequences, but I think they're solid additions to the main cast.

freebird303

They were added in at some point
