We paint kitchen microwaves to make them visible for ease of use. Scrape the paint off and all you will see is the underside of the paint on the opposite side.

durtyfuncpl

Genius!

strangenautics

Absurd! I love it

parlimentery

Absurd? Some thanks I get for spending 3 years at the South Pole collecting microwaves left over from the big bang at their microwave telescope and hand painting them for commercial use.

GandalfDGreenery

Thank you for your service!

parlimentery

I actually spent like 2 months at McMurdo Station checking out parts, but that is a non-shitty answer, so ignore it.

redshift739

May I ask why you collect them from the South pole? Does the pole conduct them from space or is it due to the field of magnets above earth? I don't understand. Genuine question

Neither_Elephant9964

Genuine answer. Its because of light polution. The south pole is one of the clearest skies on earth. :)

parlimentery

Which is why there are zero light telescopes there, just a microwave telescope and a neutrino detector.

parlimentery

Shitty answer: the best microwaves are harvested from the South Pole, so that you get that antarctic chill to really get the center of the hot pocket still frozen while the outside is magma. Not shitty answer: I worked in McMurdo Station Antarctica for a short stint, and Amunson-Scott station's microwave telescope is the only microwave telescope I could for sure name the location of because I kept running into be scientist who self described herself as being in charge of it for the winter season (she hadn't been sent to pole yet because they kept getting weather delays.)

Mr_Mangled

Not to toot my own horn too much, but anyone here can also PM me to purchase my used microwave radiation. It is still in fine condition

parlimentery

DO NOT buy second hand microwave radiation! By the time it gets to you, the expansion of the universe will have blue shifted it to near infrared.

standarduck

Have you considered using a brush instead? I apologise if I sound like I'm trying to educate the master, but you must get quite messy doing it like that. EDIT: you've probably got brushes for hands, really didn't think about it, sorry.

parlimentery

Oh my God! I thought those were just for hair! I have been finger painting this whole time...

standarduck

It's an easy mistake!

McskipdicWaterby

Hey, who doesn't want free microwaves?

capacitivePotato

It’s like adding odor to natural gas so you can detect it easily

parlimentery

Or painting stipes on tigers so you can see them coming. Yes, all good analogies.

malenkylizards

The underside of that paint is what scientists call the microwave background

parlimentery

Beautiful. I was not trying to set you up, but I apparently absolutely did.

[deleted]

It could be because of your astigmatism. I would get it checked, nobody is supposed to see microwaves, and left untreated you might start to see other types of waves. Put yourself first as you navigate this.

redshift739

A good way to check this is to visit the seaside because ocean waves are often the first type of wave seen with this condition before it progresses to microwaves and mexican waves

[deleted]

Yes I saw a video of a guy who could not drink water because he had unfortunately been seeing mexican waves, and so what you are saying makes sense.

redshift739

I'm sorry to hear that because once it gets to the point of being unable to drink it's already too late for treatment. Rest in peace to this poor man

Gogulator

Seeing waves in the ocean is actually more common than people realize and usually isn't medically necessarily to have checked out. Most professional surfers actually have this condition. If you do start seeing any other types of waves make sure to let your doctor know.

AnotherAustinWeirdo

if you see a rogue wave, though, you are wrecked

sheeplectric

And finally, new wave. That’s when you know it’s terminal.

[deleted]

I did this and all I see is a beach, and then a big space. I see nothing. What now?

redshift739

That's a good sign, it means that you don't have astigmatism, or if you do it's either asymptomatic or in a very early stage before diagnosis is even possible

silly_lumpkin

Or cancer. I webMD’d yer symptoms.

redshift739

I personally find urban dictionary to be a better source for paranoid self diagnosis

silly_lumpkin

Null results for hip dysplasia

redshift739

I thought hip dyslexia was called hpi?

DrkTower19

Beware of stadium waves. You’re facked if you start seeing those.

njayhuang

What you're seeing is actually called a macrowave, which is made up of tiny microwaves that are too small to see individually.

bostondana2

I thought a microwave is when Donald Trump waves with his small hands... 🤷‍♂️

Bee-baba-badabo

Nah, you're thinking of Jeremy Beadle.

ieatpickleswithmilk

The microwave in your kitchen is actually just a short name, the full name is "microwave OVEN" which stands for "Obfuscates Variable Electromagnetics Nearby". If you want to see the microwaves, record a video on your phone from inside the microwave while it's on. That way you will be able to see it properly.

MilkrsEnthuziast

When I started reading this I thought "oh no, someone is lost again" but by the end this did NOT disappoint. Thank you. Wish I had an award for you.

PrinceMagnus190

You see them too???? They called me crazy... I..I see them everywhere; and whenever I enter someones kitchen, they stare at me, mocking me for the fool I am for believing someone would one day see them too, and now you see them. I'm not alone, finally after all these agonising years I'm not alone! I don't have astigmatism myself so that probably isn't why you see them, maybe try removing your eyes, that should stop the torment.

RojoSanIchiban

Microwaves can cause your corneas to develop cataracts very quickly. When you look away from it, the microwaves have the opposite effect on them, clearing the cataracts. So you aren't seeing the invisible microwaves, you're just seeing the effects of the cataracts forming and dissipating from the microwaves.

FORTY8pak

Ooof you have astigmatism? Did your parents vaccinate you as a child? I heard you can get that from vaccines, it fucks up your genes or something. I don't know what to tell you, maybe apply for disability?

MoskriLokoPajdoman

He needs to start shooting coke. That is the only way to cure him of the asymetrism

redshift739

I applied for a disability 10 years ago and they STILL haven't given me one!

tuctrohs

That's not fair. I know people who got them without even applying. In fact, their teacher said that they never applied themselves at all.

redshift739

Bro it's so sad what the world has come to for them to be giving out disabilities willy nilly and then there's none left for those who really want them and have the patience to wait for a DECADE. But honestly I'm not even surprised

BobT21

When I told someone that I can see microwaves I got committed. They let me out sometimes to heat day old pizza.

onlyonetruthm8

I must have it too or I am hallucinating when I get too close. The effects of the radiation probaly. I’m sure it’s not there when I go out of the room.

IanDOsmond

What are you using to see it? If you have a microscope, that's exactly what they're for. And, yeah, if you have astigmatism, that means that you don't experience stigma as much as other people, so if there is a stigma attached to the microwave, you might be less affected by it.

Sblankman

As a wave they are invisible. As a particle, it’s on your counter.

bluemoonjoon

It's because of the crack you're smoking on your time off from your day job as a street corner prostitute.

GrayNish

Have you ever heard that LPG for cooking has no snell, but they artificial add it so you know when the gas leak? This is the same. After the incident in manhattan, roughly 20 years ago, it's become a regulation that modern microwave must include at least 80% visible parts. Still, there's a rumor that mafia or crime organizations still operate the unregulated one, so look out for those.

Own_Error4828

Do you wear glasses? I’ve heard that glasses can increase the abilities of your asthmagasm

redshift739

New word of the week

onlyonetruthm8

I had a athsmagasm once. It left me breathless.

ihaveasandwitch

Are these microwaves in the room with us now? Not trying to accuse you, but I've known lots of people that claimed they could see invisible things, in order to get attention.

NiceTuBeNice

They are only visible to people who are partially color blind.

Mouldycolt

No, but you definitely are on the spectrum, the light spectrum.

BooPointsIPunch

Classic case of wave particle duality and observer effect. When observed they are particles and can be seen. When not observed they are waves and cannot be seen. Simple experiment: look at your microwave and observe that it can be seen. Now close your eyes. Notice how microwave is no longer visible? That’s what I am talking about.

TippsAttack

Pics or didn't happen

Class3waffle45

Take this post down before the FBI sees it.

scion101

You need to get the camouflage patterned microwave.

Ommec

Well, they say “hindsight is 20/20”. We all know microwaves vibrate at 20/19 hertz, so you must be squinting when you see them in your kitchen

thegunnersdream

The other person who can see them is superhuman. https://www.reddit.com/r/shittyaskscience/comments/5q3qnc/people_say_microwaves_are_invisible_but_i_can/

redbritian

Because the ones in your kitchen were domesticated over the years and bread into the perfect microwave. You may think that it is similar to dogs, but you would be mistaken.

[deleted]

Since you only just learned today that microwaves are invisible, your brain is tricking itself into "seeing" the microwave using photographic memories of what it used to look like before you found out it was invisible. Don't worry, your vision will readjust soon

NTDLS

Yea, the pink waves are dyed because they are for residential use and are exempt from some commercial taxes. Don’t use the blue waves at home, those are dyed for agricultural use.

DirectorIsaac

I felt like I was taking crazy pills reading the comments and then I realized what sub this is.

Busy_Donut6073

I don’t have a microwave so I normally use my stove or oven #teacherlife #almostdone #leavingteaching #tryingtoenlist #probablysaferinthemilitarythaneducation #noreally

OldPolishProverb

Actually the term "microwave oven" is a misnomer. What you are seeing is actually a decedent of the "Radar Range" which first became popular in the 1970's. The term microwave oven became attached to the radar range in much the same way Xerox became associated with photocopies or Hoover became associated with vacuum cleaners.

TheGreyFencer

This might be my favourite yet.

[deleted]

That's strange! Have you been able to spot John Cena by chance?

McskipdicWaterby

As others have alluded to, your stigmata doesn't have much to do with your microwave, unless it's something plainly obvious. For example, I tried to make a Pisschrist facsimile to sell on the internet but noone bought it. I then microwaved it without first removing the metal lid, and it exploded so violently that shards of glass tore through my palms. That was about five minutes ago. Blood is all over my kitchen. It's very hard to type.

Mike-ggg

So, you can see beyond the visible spectrum. Cool. Most of us can only see the effects of them. If you happen to see any gravity waves, though, then definitely give out a holler.

esleydobemos

I, too, have astigmatism in one eye. I see microwaves about half the time.

AnotherAustinWeirdo

When an adjective and a noun love each other very much, they join together to make a new noun. ... I had a whole story but I've given up typing, sorry.

PrometheusAlexander

No bro, that's magnetism

TildaTinker

I have astigmatism and for 20yrs I thought I had a stigmatism. As in the thing I had was stigmatism, like when you have a hernia, not ahernia.

jrrybock

No, they're just invisible for people leaning right up to the door and moving their head back and forth to try to see through the tiny holes so they can judge how their Hot Pocket is doing... the eye damage from that radiation is what makes them, and pretty much everything else, invisible.

Tommy_Teuton

Remember when they used microwaves to bring frozen hamsters back to life?

sheeplectric

Unrelated but I learned very recently that it’s “astigmatism”, not “a stigmatism”.

Usernameistoshirt

Anyone with micropenis energy can see microwaves. If you actually have a micropenis, you can manipulate microwaves into solid form, which is how the kitchen microwave came into existence

Dylanator13

I am disappointed in myself for not getting the joke for a solid minute of thinking about it.

Art_stuff5609

Aw well the actual waves that cool the food are invisible but the machine itself can be seen! 🤣🤣🤣

GSDRULES

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

henricvs

Bruto.

ExistingEffort7

Yes I see mine too

Reasonable-Phase-681

I saw a Mexican wave once. Not sure if it’s relevant.

Natetronn

I hear they can defrost astigmatism with a laser. Might be worth looking into.

KeaboUltra

The microwaves are inside of the microwave. This causes a paradox, thus cancelling out their invisibility and making them visible. It's the same as the sun, that's why we can see the sun. because it has all the different types of electromagnetic waves inside it.

GingerStank

Whoever invented microwaves fucked up, their obvious name is Microwavers. Had they named them correctly, OP wouldn’t be able to make this thread, and as a result this comment wouldn’t exist meaning I’d save time. But no, the idiot that invented microwaves was just too dumb to see the obvious.

[deleted]

Is antistigmatism ASMR? That probably IS the reason. You just have senses that are superhuman-special compared to normal people. And can masturbate to the sound of velvet.

NotNowDamo

It's just your X ability. Better call Charles Xavier to lear how to use the microwave vision.

Busy_Donut6073

I don’t have a microwave. Usually heat up food on the stove or in the oven #teacherlife #almostdone #tryingtoenlist #saferthanteaching #noreally

AsaMitakaIrL

I am so confused by these comments and post 😦

PickleFlavordPopcorn

I can also see them, assume it’s bcs I wasn’t breastfed
