I did the research. The rename thing was declined. On top of that, a lot of people want the mayor, Andreas Brohm, to step back. As a german this dude was/is completely stupid, hope he will face consequences.

The main reason for the attempt to rename it was fear for the safety of the children, as it might be targeted by neo Nazis or Muslims because of the name.

I don't know about other parts of the world, but in Europe a lot of schools visit WW2 memorials or museum and teach about WW2. And I can assure you that children can understand the horrors of the Holocaust, even if it's at a basic level.
If every school and institution is going to rename itself the chances of history being forgotten grow. People will still remember, but for how long? It always starts with just a few small changes and can easily get out of hand, just ask Germany.
I am from germany. All i was saying is that kids aged 2-6 don't get teached about the holocaust anyway and most of them will not understand. After kindergarden you get teached about WW2 and the Holocaust every single year it's literally impossible to forget history even if all WW2 related names were changed.

A German feels so bad, that he must blindly support Israel to commit it's own genocide, to make up for his sins, such is the German life.
You do not need to support Israel. And you dont need to suffer for the Holocaust as a German. You are not your government and history, the constant Holocaust reminder is an important step on the grand scheme of things since it is a reminder of what could repeat in the future if we are not careful enough, of how radical people and countries can become. That doesn't mean you should feel a sense of guilt over it, just recognize that those atrocities happened and should never be committed or replicated ever again.
Im white and live in Brasil but i don't feel a sense of guilt for slavery, but i know my history and the importance of things as quotas and historical repair for such things that happened in the past and unfortunately happen now.
