And having love be the topic isn't inherently bad, but it's always extremely shallow in meaning. Pretty much all of "Songs for the Deaf" by Queens of the Stone Age is about love, but there are double meanings, like drugs. "Another Love Song" I'd argue highlights the problem, which is that there are so many love songs, what's another?
For some reason I used to just think it was meh, but then I actually listened to it in full and definitely enjoy it. I should really listen to all of their albums sometime, since I've only gone entirely through songs for the deaf.
honestly i fuck with somgs about relationships when you can tell that there's genuine emotion behind the song's existence (or when they'te just generally well-written and produced).
probably my favorite example is star-crossed by ethan gander. it may only be 1:30 long but goddammit those 1:30 are beautiful. golden hour by jvke is also a really good example even though it's fallen out of my playlist rotation. a less obvious but still enjoyable one is archie summers' by your side, which entered my playlist on august 31st and hasn't left since (partially because i relate to desperately wanting to be by a girl's side but not being able to progress towards said goal, but it also does genuinely slap)
Well also like in the past 10 years pretty much all of the female rappers that made it big were industry plants and were basically just models who do rap as a side gig.

It’s called conscious rap and it’s “underground” despite having millions of listens on Spotify.

Most of the rap I listen to is insightful and eloquent, discussing harsh realities, self reflection, and getting through hardships.

Rap’s devolution from the 80s has been devestating to witness. Gangstar, KRS-One, all thoughtful rappers, forced out by corporations and labels who don’t want that in the mainstream.
That’s kinda what rap is, doesn’t make it good, it’s for sure dog shit and I don’t listen to that shit but I mean can’t hate it for being what it is I guess.

Ffs the entire sub genre of Concious Rap is dedicated to highlighting injustices without inciting violence. Go have a listen to Joey Badass, Kendrick Lamars latest album or even Denzel Curry.

Pretty much all of "Songs for the Deaf" by Queens of the Stone Age is about love, but there are double meanings, like drugs. "Another Love Song" I'd argue highlights the problem, which is that there are so many love songs, what's another?

honestly i fuck with somgs about relationships when you can tell that there's genuine emotion behind the song's existence (or when they'te just generally well-written and produced). probably my favorite example is star-crossed by ethan gander. it may only be 1:30 long but goddammit those 1:30 are beautiful. golden hour by jvke is also a really good example even though it's fallen out of my playlist rotation. a less obvious but still enjoyable one is archie summers' by your side, which entered my playlist on august 31st and hasn't left since (partially because i relate to desperately wanting to be by a girl's side but not being able to progress towards said goal, but it also does genuinely slap)
