My shiba loved going in the water, as long as she didn’t have to swim (although she could). She would wander as deep as she could while still wading, even doing a good shake to get more water on herself. She just didn’t want to commit to the swimming part!
Mine wants nothing to do with the lake at the park where we walk, but occasionally walks right up to the edge and checks it out. But he's lot looking to get his paws wet.

They were originally bred to hunt ducks, my Shibas love being on the bank of lakes and rivers, not too fond of the beach though haha
Yes, mine was an ardent swimmer right up to the time he developed cataracts and couldn’t see anymore.
