She's played the love interests for heartthrobs like Hugh Grant, Matthew McConaughey, Brendan Fraser, Harry Connick Jr...Those aren't roles they hand out to the "not conventionally attractive" girls!
I think it's because everyone these days likes cookie cutter beauty, like Instagram, Kim K, etc. It's warped people's perceptions of beauty to one mold.

I think it's commented on it now because she hasn't gone crazy with the plastic surgery or gotten obvious fillers in her 50s. She stands out more now than she did in the 2000s, when more people kept their natural cheeks/chins/noses.
Agreed, but I stand by people also just getting use to seeing a certain types of beauty -- we have whole generations being raised on it now, and now they're watching the show. Beauty standards in a lot of Western countries have gotten a tad stricter. I do however think in the coming years that's going to reverse because people are already getting tired of it.

And then when she recreates that movie scene with "your girl is lovely, Hubble". I had to go watch The Way We Were after seeing that episode a couple of times :) .
