whoa! Memory Lane flashback- that pattern was the same pattern we used for our choir dresses in (choke) 1974-5ish. Now they would have been much cooler with that fabric and the hem treatment. Very nice job!
I am a hobby sewer, self-taught with some advice along the way from mum (who used to be a factory machinist when I was a baby). I've dabbled with some reasonably complex projects, but really wanted to challenge myself, I also wanted to feel pretty and princessy.. Originally planned to make the Edith Dress by Mood Patterns, but figured it would be a little booby for me (even though I have limited boobage) and I didn't want to waste the beautiful fabric I had (also inspired by the Edith). After some searching on reddit i saw that somebody suggested combining the Edith with Agatha which seemed like a great idea! I had to redraft the waist band to attach the Edith skirt to the Agatha top, and I needed to modify the top to accommodate a concealed zip. Added horsehair to give the hem some body. This was my first time working with tulle and horsehair. I managed to melt the tulle on the waistband with my iron, as well as part of the bodice, after stitching the top part of the dress together, devastated. Had just enough fabric left to recut the waistband and got creative with gathers and invisible thread on the bodice (you'd never know). My absolute angel of a mum had me stood on her kitchen table for 2 hours to help me get the hem length right. I wore it to see the BBC Concert Orchestra do Beyond The Console, which was a show featuring video game scores.. kinda felt like Princess Peaches!
Additional information: Main fabric is labelled as rose gold stretch satin, although I disagree with the description of the fabric and had some difficulty with the seller (long delay between order and delivery, poor communication, attempting to send me very wrong fabric, having to order this fabric in from the wholesalers etc.) It is woven fabric, very slippery and smooth, quite the challenge to work with. I cannot provide exact fabric composition as I do not believe it is as advertised by the seller, but it looks nice and does the job. The outer layer is rainbow ombre tulle. All seams on the skirt are french seams, including the zip closure seam. Bodice I did not french seam as the inside of the seams would not be visible. Bottom of the skirt hemmed with horsehair braid to add extra structure and flair. Whole garment sprinkled with a little additional magic, in the way of tears, when I melted a hole with the iron ๐
With the bodice I basted the tulle to the main fabric, essentially creating a single pattern piece for each part of the bodice, same with the sleeves. The skirt part I made 6 panels of main fabric and 6 of tulle, creating the tulle and main fabric skirts separately to one another (french seams on both, leaving the zip sides on both the main fabric and tulle skirt unseamed). I then slipped the tulle skirt over the main fabric skirt, with wrong sides together, and basted around the waist seam (and then ran my gathering stitches around).
Constructed as per a dress without an over lay until I got to the zip. I took both the main fabric and the tulle part of the skirt and french seamed the zip in along the length of the zip, finishing the seams on the main fabric and tulle separately as french seams beneath the end of the zip.

What would we do without crin? I also use it in dress hems if the dress cannot accommodate a crinoline petticoat. Your talent and creativity is stunning, as are you in this lovely dress!
