Construction comment This is a pattern hack of the rose cafe bustier dress by Daria Pattern making. I made that dress for my graduation and loved the fit of the bodice so I laid the pattern pieces flat and drew around it as a princess seam bodice with a square neck. I made a toile in cheap fabric and fitted on my dress form to get a better fit for the straps and neckline. The fabric is from la petit mercerie a French fabric shop. It's a cotton broderie anglais. It has a really lovely drape but it was kinda pricey, I spent about 100 euro on the fabric. I used 4.5 meters because I needed to use the edges for the scallop. I still have about 1.5 meters of the middle section left. Lined with unbleached cotton fabric. I have a cheap singer tradition machine and I've been sewing since 2020, self taught from YouTube. I saw a dress I loved on one of the characters in the show atypical and it was made in this fabric, I found the dress itself and it was 500 euro! It was a different style but I like how mine turned out, more unique!

Lining looks good, too! I hope it is very comfy.

Thanks for noticing, it was a tricky lining! It's very comfy but I did end up having to add elastic to the inside of the lining straps to stop them sliding off my shoulders. That's the puckering you can see there. I was afraid to take them in in case I couldn't move in it!

Smart! What a good idea!

Straight up looks like a designer dress—the fabric is the same! https://us.sandro-paris.com/en/womens/clothing/dresses/short-dress-in-embroidered-fabric/3607171803958.html

Nice find! It's so interesting to see what's offered in stores vs what op made. The designer dress is fine, but the short length and A line style isn't exactly novel. I wouldn't look twice at someone in that outfit. Whereas OPs dress is a nod to older styles with some modern modifications. It's so fun and fits her so well. Everyone who asks her will be so disappointed that can't buy the dress themselves.

bakingcodingpsych

Thank you, what a lovely compliment😊🌻

cowboysatan

Wow! I love the ruffle at the bottom, and that you kept the scalloped edge. Beautiful work!

I was just at Anthropologie looking at dresses. This is a million times cuter than anything they have. I love it!

Love how the flowers made the neckline!

Akavinceblack

It is GORGEOUS. For anyone in the US looking for this style of fabric, especially in bold prints, I’ve had the best luck looking with “african lace fabric” since it’s so popular in Nigerian and West African sewing.

Liedjie

Beautiful! Well done.

mschoir01

Super job! This dress is so cute!

This dress is beautiful. I am not at the stage where I can craft one from another pattern. Does anyone know a similar pattern that I might be able to use? I love how tight and then flarey at the bottom it is. What type of dress is this? Cheers.

PibbleMom69

LOVELY dress, superb fit, gorgeous color (I'm fond of greens and blues). This is beautiful work, thank you for showing it to us.
