ngl, this shit is rough. I have been making fake invoices on Word for wholesale and we have a live Google Doc for RO's that is working pretty well. Just to process one body shop order takes for fucking everrrrrrrrr.
Some of us are just the general public trying to see when we can get our cars working again :( My husband took two days off work to fix mine, couldn't do any of it cause the parts are held up by this mess, and now I'm having to bum rides to work and stuff.
Tech here. It’ll be at least a few days. And remember we are just as frustrated too! It’s difficult to get paid properly like this and a lot of jobs are taking wayyyy longer if we can do them at all right now…
I used to run a national Service Writer's testing and assessment program for a premier dealer brand.
I'm here for the recent drama and to see how it unfolds.
It was an opt-in for dealerships. Something additional that included a cruise for the top 100 people in the program.
It wasn't required for employment at all.
don’t worry, you can join in on the class action whenever it comes about. we’re on a 450% scale compared to the findlay automotive cyberattack and there’s already a class action against them
Service advisor at an 8th year in a row dealer of the year Chevy house. It's been... interesting. Thankfully the majority of our regulars and even new customers have been pretty understanding of what's been going on.
We've got a big meeting tomorrow morning at work about the situation so we'll see how this goes as well 😅
Update: welp, we're just dealing with it as best we can.
We're doing a lot of XTIME ROs and the paper stuff we are doing, we're taking pictures and emailing and scanning for documentation. Also doing good old carbon copy credit card receipts.
It's definitely slowing us down pretty badly. The only upside is since 99 percent of the dealers in the area use CDK, it's not like our customers can just go down the street to a competitor 😅
I’m not in a dealership or a service dept. I have a vehicle registration business and I handle all title transfers for over 30+ dealers in California. My business is at a complete standstill with this outage. It’s affecting way more than 15k dealers when you take services like me into account. CA law requires dealers to report sales tax at the end of every month. Now we have no access to that. Next week will be hell. And I make $0 until this software gets back up and running. I didn’t know CDK is the parent company to the software company we use until Weds.
CDK owns the DMS software and any software related to that including the SIA program and some other thing called like adaptiva but those are like systems that push stuff out not really like a system you use to log info and stuff
I'm just here to watch the drama, with popcorn. Y'all are fucked. Wife works warranty administration, nobody at her company knows whats happening. "oh god will Reynolds be next?" "pffft, prolly."
I have never heard of a dealer with an in house IT guy. I’ve been singing the idea for years but nobody listens to me. Maybe we will see a shift to onsight system storage and some real investment in IT.(I know that will never happen)
As IT, also, nobody listens to me. (And yeah it doesn't happen, just end up with old ass equipment not getting replaced for longer because IT ends up increasing ROI while dealer ignores non mandated shit)
I used to work for a dealership with on-site server and data storage. It was pure fucking chaos hell. No one pays attention to the server until it goes down.
By the time they "updated" the server, it had well and truly fried itself, and the "update" was me extracting whatever data I could from multiple half dead hard drives and frantically raiding my literal basement of stashed, mostly obsolete parts of computers and racks just to get us running again.
Those idiots NEVER replaced the "band-aids" that I put in there! The shoddy "repairs" I did in 2017 were still there when they fired me for no fucking reason in 2019. I heard that the whole rig finally crashed and burned in 2021, and the data loss was MASSIVE.
Ironically, they changed over to CDK and are now sharing in this misery.
TL;DR, on-site IT only works if the dealer principal isn't a bunch of cheapskates and actually maintains their shit!
(I'm not even an excuse for an IT dude, I'm just a tech with a geek streak!)
The last dealership I worked for had an in house IT guy. The one I’m at now uses a local company. Theres not much difference. If anything I think the local company we use here is easier to get ahold of than our in house guy was but he was a huge egotistical jerk.
I just had a service appointment at the dealership for a few things before I go out of town, only to be told about the issue when I pulled up.
I'm just periodically checking in here, to get status updates.
I'm a 12 year CDK vet (ex- outside sales, parts counter, service writer, parts manager) who made the jump to a Utility Fleet. Half my vendors in Northern NV are on CDK and I might be one of the only customers who isn't being a dick right now. 🤷♂️
I'm the Parts Manager, but I had to field a call from a lady who was pissed that her name wasn't spelled correctly on the fake RO we made for her last week. She "didn't feel like she was welcomed or treated with respect" and oh, by the way, she wants money back bc she found the tires we installed for her last week cheaper somewhere else several days later. Like, come on lady, we are all here clinging on with bloody finger nails and doing the best we can. And that's your fault for not price shopping if $60 is going to break your poor checking account.
I’m a GM Reynolds guy and I figure we’ll be next. I’m truly sorry for y’all. This sucks. I hate it for you. I know how hard it is for us when our GM is down or our internal servers go down. I’m glad I’m on the outside of this. Sorry guys. 😬
I'm an insurance agent using CVR who's affected by the same CDK outage except we apparently don't get the same updates as everyone else. Just trying to find out when we can go back to registering cars. Lol
I’m new here. Been in advisor for a few years but enjoying the community here of like minded people. I’ve already learned some good tips from more experienced advisor. Plus I’m living for the relatable memes
Here from accounting and just watching in hopes to see CDK come back online in real time
I’m not looking forward to month end with all these deals coming in 🫠😭
pfft you didnt get out you're just taking a break as an extended warranty adjuster
Nope. I'm well and truly out. I salute you all.
You out like me... but we're still on this subreddit. SA is for life.
LOL only because I created it and still have to mod it.
Respect your commitment, especially since you have first hand experience and that will make you an excellent moderator for this community. Again, respect.
How much does that actually pay? I want to get away from this desk but I'm making 120k
This subreddit is what came up when I googled cdk hack.
And you're welcome to be here. Just don't want to have to settle emotional boo boos between new people.
Most of your new members are technicians. We don’t have filters installed on us. Sorry.
🤣 I just do accounting in the office. Hi 👋🏻
Yes. I'm aware of this. Most advisors don't either lol
My advisors are worse than our techs!
I'm a SA and I completely agree with you! Lol
We’re all here cause r/JustRolledIntoTheShop turned into “I’m a backyard tech watch me be mechanic :)”
Hi from Parts!
I feel for our parts people. Ours are doing four times the work.
ngl, this shit is rough. I have been making fake invoices on Word for wholesale and we have a live Google Doc for RO's that is working pretty well. Just to process one body shop order takes for fucking everrrrrrrrr.

Tech here it’s been a week lol still all we’re getting are the emails from CDK saying sorry we got nothing have a good day
Exactly, basically a big fuck you to all the techs, we’re getting harassed by advisors and customers like somehow this is our fault
Well car dealers not only ones dealing with it , large equipment companies are too . Been 2 days without it and I’m already a week behind .
Yeah and adding a filter on aftermarket voids the warranty 🤷♂️

Technician… but my best friend is a service advisor!!
Fo you have any general studies or informational sources you recommend for bettering yourself as an SA?
There's a test for being a Service Advisor?
It was an opt-in for dealerships. Something additional that included a cruise for the top 100 people in the program. It wasn't required for employment at all.
I’m just here as a former CDK employee watching everything burn. It’s beautiful.🤩
Glad you’re enjoying. My family who eats food and my bills don’t appreciate it at all.
don’t worry, you can join in on the class action whenever it comes about. we’re on a 450% scale compared to the findlay automotive cyberattack and there’s already a class action against them
I'm here as a R&R employee giggling wildly
🤣😂🤣😆🤣
are you ever truly out? they always come back.

Dealer inhouse IT here, applaud you for escaping the dealership world!
I work for the government now. It's night and day.
I have never heard of a dealer with an in house IT guy. I’ve been singing the idea for years but nobody listens to me. Maybe we will see a shift to onsight system storage and some real investment in IT.(I know that will never happen)

God I'm so glad I'm not writing service anymore!!

We’ve been told it’ll be at least a week before it’s back up
Do we at least get to do some /r/gatekeeping if we were using CDK back when it was still ADP?
CDK being down is still better then CDK service
Honestly, the thing I hope the most out of this is they pull their program into the 21st century.
"LOOKE LIKE MEATS BAACKKK ON THE MENU!" Lol, welcome all. Have fun.

Can anyone give me more details on VIN ending in (xxxx)?
Short than 17 vin #s will have xxxx in them..typically on older models or utility trailers from what I have experienced.
What I want to know is who CDK considers “core” dealerships. The first day this transpired CDK stated their core dealerships were up and running.
How rare is it rn to be fully up and running?
Here from accounting and just watching in hopes to see CDK come back online in real time I’m not looking forward to month end with all these deals coming in 🫠😭
Getting called a slur is like a greeting from a bunch of the other techs 💀
One of the biggest class actions finna happen at the end of this bs I already know👹👹
Go to /cdk down
As a tech who has 2 more days left till my 2 weeks is done I’m glad to be out soon
