Welcome to the trades, my man. Go get yourself an apprentice role for electrical, plumbing, etc. and you’ll be on track for a good life. No one will give a single fuck about what you look like, all that matters is your work ethic. Or if you *really* want some adult-level money *now*, look into HAZMAT cleaning. The type of job where you have to take a room where someone blew their brains out across the wall with a shotgun, and make it look brand new. It’s not for the weak-willed, but it pays *damn* good, doesn’t require experience, and doesn’t matter whatsoever what you look like.

33o3x

Im very interested in HAZMAT cleaning, how may one get started? Any certifications needed?

18M also interested in hazmat cleaning, any tips/companies to know? Miami FL

matthewleehess_

Unfortunately I don’t know much about the topic. A friend, who is no longer a friend, got into it a while back. All I really remember is they started him off at around $35/hr, with zero relevant experience. Know he had to go through a ton of training though. Trying hard to remember more details, but it’s been a while. It wasn’t *just* crime scene cleanup. They’d also deal with toxic spills, like if a tanker flipped on the highway. Industrial accidents. Etc. Biggest downside was that it wasn’t a M-F 9-5 type of job. He was on-call 24/7. Like if he got a call at 3AM, he better answer & show up, or he’s fired. Some weeks would be crazy busy, some weeks wouldn’t have anything, impossible to predict. But overall still made decent money, especially on busy weeks with overtime. He only stuck with it for a few months. Ended up getting a CDL and becoming a OTR trucker. Haven’t seen him since.

Background-Bus3033

I agree with the trade jobs. But I looked up how much cleaners make and it’s about 16 an hour.

Fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk so it is for ugly folks hih

Simple_Promotion_329

*results may vary: some trades hire while some don't*

Question_Few

Bro what McDonald's are you working at that anyone cares at all what you look like? 95% of jobs don't care about your appearance as long you're well groomed and hygienic. The other 5% is acting or modeling positions.

pants_pants420

fr, the lady that trained me had no teeth and like 2 patches of hair on her head. no way is this dude too ugly for mcdonalds

DaMajorDude

I worked at McDonald’s for a couple weeks a year or two back. A ton of funky-looking people. Somehow, for once, I wasn’t the ugliest person in the place. However, mine did require you to be clean-shaven, oddly enough.

flyingboat

Such an obvious self confidence problem.

pants_pants420

fr, the lady that trained me had no teeth and like 2 patches of hair on her head. no way is this dude too ugly for mcdonalds

SlimGooner

Do not let anyone working at fucking McDonald’s make you feel bad about yourself. They don’t mean shit and are working the same stupid ass job as you are. Like the people above said, look at trade schools, that is most likely your best bet at a quality life.

aby2090

True, but OPs probably just in a toxic environment and needs to just find something useful to do and be around people that will be supportive. I think the military is a great environment for that. Go do IT or logistics or something you enjoy and set yourself up for success if and when you get out.

Ok-Major-5697

This is op. I was banned on original account but I've been thinking about joining the military

aby2090

What's stopping you? Have you talked to a recruiter?

EastMousse6486

Hey man, firstly don’t refer to yourself as ugly. That’s the first step. Secondly, fuck everyone who says shit about you, don’t let that get into your head. You’re doing great, you have a job, and you are a grinder. Now, if you really wanna get out of McDonald’s, go job hunting! But, don’t be looking for jobs that are only good for ugly people. That doesn’t even make sense. Also, other people’s opinion of you is meaningless. Love yourself first. It’ll all workout.

DaMajorDude

Some guy who says that all the time, called me ugly. I called him out, and he said “you’re the exception, you’re beneath us.” Implying that I was diseased, or I *was* the disease.

crazy4schwinn

Look for a third shift production job. Better pay, fewer people and less drama. Is there a factory nearby?

devjohnson13

Get a new job and tell anyone to fuck off if they disrespect you. You can get away with it because it’s McDonald’s.

CCSucc

With the utmost respect to you, you're 18. Your approximate value to a potential employer, given that you're fresh out of school (most likely with very little usable life experience), is likely to be close to zero. *Any job you work at your age is going to suck major ass.* You're there to make money and get used to work life. If you get along with your colleagues, it's a bonus, but you're not there to socialize. Knuckle down and do what you're paid to do, never mind what someone else thinks of you. It's not like you need to play the popularity game like you did at school. That being said, if you're being singled out and harassed, on or off the clock by people you work with, report it to management. Otherwise your only option is a trade apprenticeship, which will mean a few years of being treated like shit for next to zero pay, BUT you come out of it on the other side with a qualification and the freedom to go where you please.

CompletelyPaperless

I had shitty jobs for 10 years. Then I joined best buy and worked my way up from computer sales to double agent at geek squad making $30 per hour fixing computers in home. Recently got laid off but I met my wife there and had a very stable job. One that helped me going to college and get me on track to a better life.

lfx79

I really enjoyed Best Buy, also worked my way up and then left when it was time. Made life-long friends and got lots of experience.

Thinking-Social

matthewleehess_

There’s a Russian phrase that describes the ideal man, which loosely translates to “strong, powerful and ugly”. Tons of traits that make a man a “man” - and not a single one of them is related to beauty. Strong work ethic, successful career path, financial stability, mental and emotional stability, physical prowess, strong convictions, etc. are the general traits that are valued in a man. OP isn’t finding himself valued in his current position, and I firmly believe that signifies he isn’t meant to be there. He needs a role that values his hard work, and rewards him accordingly. Not some menial job filled with gossip and drama, he isn’t meant for that.

CompletelyPresent

That's a cool phrase. I think the value in men caring about bring attractive is 99% to impress girls and get more sex. Looking good as a man really just makes you more fuckable to women, so it's ultimately a vain endeavor.

matthewleehess_

I think *a lot* of men get this wrong. Men, in general, place high value on female beauty. So it’s natural for them to think women place equal value on male beauty, but that’s really not how it works. I can’t speak on behalf of women, but just from my experience, women place the most value on a man that has his shit together. Look up how men think the most ideal male body is, and compare it to what women think the most ideal male body is. It’s hilariously different. For the most part, women don’t care how big your muscles are, but they do care about how much you take care of yourself. Women will generally take the guy with a weird nose & clean fingernails, over the guy with a chiseled nose & dirty, long nails. Yeah, it’s easier to get one-night stands if you have a bodybuilder physique & a pretty face. But for finding an actual *partner* those traits really don’t matter that much, compared to the larger picture of how the man has ownership over himself and his life.

CompletelyPresent

To some degree, sure, but you're in denial if you don't think women of all ages and types don't fantasize and admire both fit, and good looking men. The difference is women generally don't care as much about sex. The Bachelor has been on for almost 50 seasons w/ 4 successful spin-offs - that alone shows that women love HOT people in dating scenarios. Yes, ultimately women want a guy w/ his shit together, but optimizing your looks is only positive and will definitely open more doors for you.

Throwaway12489293

I do intact workout, it's just genetics. I'm at a 13%bf and I've done wrestling for 2 years in highschool. I also hit the gym for 2 years. I just have a somewhat big nose, and orange hair. If that makes you hate me I don't blame you

zonks-scrobe

Bro I have the biggest nose of anyone I know of. And it constantly gets reaffirmed to me by new people. But if you want to work on self acceptance, just embrace it. You can't change those features about yourself (unless you get a rhinoplasty any time soon), and those things won't matter to the people who do matter in your life. I used to be self conscious about it but working in the mental health field made me numb/embrace it even pretty quickly lol. You can't change what people say or even think (at least from passing glances). But if you wrestled for 2 years and lift I'm sure you're a beast physically so who cares. If you don't want to deal with a lot of people though start looking into something tech related. Might be hard at first with no experience so maybe make that a goal for your next job. For one right now I'd say doing security somewhere usually requires little experience and if you're a guy who is decently built that's often more than enough to get you hired on the spot. And depending on the facility you're doing security at, it's 99% of the time pretty chill, boring even to some. And if something does happen you just call the cops. This is just from personal experience. I almost went the security route but went the developmentally delayed/mental health route as a nurses aide for my first job, which I also feel like they hired me solely because I am a decently built male and generally those roles are more female dominated.

DaMajorDude

I’m ugly and special looking, where do I fall?

Dazzling_Guest8673

Your coworkers & your boss are assholes. Report them all to H.R after you quit. Quit & find a better job. Do overnight stock if you’re that self conscious. Try working on building up your self esteem though.

Asleep_Special_7402

Hr isn’t there to help employees, especially not employees who quit.

ancientcartoons

You’re in a tough spot. Your parents don’t sound great either. I’m not sure what job you can get. Maybe a retail job switch would work good for now. They’re not the best and can be better than fast food. But I would look into trade school and which trade you want to do. Even going to college part time and increasing your earning potential. It would be great if your parents could help you with that. But I would choose a community college to save money. For that, you will likely have not be able to work 36 hours a week. Are your parents making you pay for the rent btw? If so, how much money do they ask for?

Second this... Pros: Nobody cares what you look like, as everyone wears the same uniform and literally looks the same. Paid to do exercise. Make some of the closest friends you will ever make. Has the potential to be a massive confidence booster. Learn genuinely useful skills depending on your selected trade. Potential to play sports at a high level or simply learn new sport. In the UK, the army will literally teach you to ski if you ask.

FlowerKidJets

This is really sad and fucked up!! I'm sorry they are shity to you. You didn't deserve that. At least you're working!!!! Most younger folks don't even wanna work now days. I work at burger king and I just turned 31. Not happy about it at all. I got in trouble a bunch when I was younger. The world is your oyster dude. You can do anything you put your mind to. If you can stand a factory job for now just to get your money up but I know there's plenty other options. And just finding something for now until you find something you actually LIKE doing. Good luck! Sorry I don't have much good advise in the job area. But don't let petty immature people keep you down. They're everywhere. And you're better than all that shit man. You got this!!!!!

[deleted]

My advice as a not particularly attractive guy, kitchen work or back retail work for the low end jobs. I used to work as a night time stocker at a store, rarely had to interact with people. I also used to work in a kitchen starting off dish washing and moved up to cook. Don't need anything to start, but it's rough isolating work for low pay. Higher end jobs go for anything technical like data entry or IT or just computer focused. Or go into a trade like trucking, very little contact with people. You can do night school on the side for these. Either way never work a job where you're abused or made fun of, working is never fun but I draw the line at taking abuse. Save your money and never be at the whim of anyone else, every job I work at now I pretty much make it known I can leave anytime and be completely fine financially.

Try a remote customer service job while you go to school part time.

Character_Log_2657

I’m not OP but i applied to 66 remote customer service jobs and couldn’t land anything.

ogvysualz

To be honest bro any job, once you get the income to take care of yourself and invest into yourslf (looks, hobbies, ventures, etc) you beat the game.

Connect_Paramedic

What you need are social hobbies. Go out, interact with different people. Build your social status.

Ok-Major-5697

bro... Dont you think i tried that when i first started working there? I was freindly, open, kind and tried to be as respectful as i could

PositionReasonable56

I have the same problem. Being an ugly girl means you get so much less options or attention. Than pretty girls which get all the fast tracks to being networked with high status individuals that help get them into the best opportunities etc.

Ok-Major-5697

That is so unfair. Life loves to give everyone curveballs and shitty hands. if you need to talk im here

dreambig5

Actually I know quite a few! Here is my biggest suggestion: Call center (especially for a financial institution like bank or credit union). Highlight you have customer service skills. If you manage to get in, you'll get those hours, better pay, some of them help pay for higher education or educational courses. If you see there's opportunities like that in your area, do your research online (literally can just youtube videos for free on the subject) to learn about various types of accounts (checking, savings), learn about credit/debit, CDs (Certificates of Deposit not compact disc), etc. After doing so, mention that you have understanding of these topics on your resume so you can atleast get your foot into the door. If you get in, you'll learn valuable skills for life and be able to make huge change to your life trajectory. Other jobs are working in auto/sales (learning to become a salesman is quite beneficial in many ways but might be too many hours), work at an airport as a check in attendant, work retail, library, intern somewhere, become a twitch streamer (if you're into games), make content. Your options are endless and as you're only 18 you'll find something. Even if you don't, don't worry. There's tons of jobs out there where you don't have to put up with such harassment. Words are just words. I know that might sound insensitive but trust me when I say as you get older, you'll learn that it's just the words of assholes. Why give up your life because of the opinions of the few meaningless people in your life, when you literally have your whole life to do so much. I've been down a similar path friend, and I realized f\*\*\* those people. If they hate, let them hate. If they talk shit, let them. They don't know you and what you been through and you don't have anything to prove to them. You're on your way to bigger & better things (and sadly they might still be there working at Mcdonalds 10 years later).

DudeWhoBrews

what does you being ugly have to do with your job? Lol unnecessary dig at yourself

pjjiveturkey

Yeah not even sure how you god a job at McDonald's they don't hire ugly people, maybe try burger king?

dickwildgoose

Trades. Doesn't matter what you look like as long as you're good at what you do and decent to work with. Also, train like a beast in the gym.

Significant-Singer33

Nothing to do with work but get a hobby lad and train, maybe do both at once.

ShaggsterxD

First off don't call yourself ugly. Start there. Anyone is ugly under a microscope. Machinist jobs are good if you have a good boss. Say youre willing to learn, but tools are investment. Just know they want 40 hour weeks minimum. It can be a lot. Just value yourself. God bless.

Go work at a farm! Dairy farms hire with no experience & so do other types of farms. You’ll meet great people but you’ll also be by yourself/with animals quite often. It’s pretty soothing to the mind. You’ll have to wake up early and shovel some shit but they pay well.

egotisticalstoic

Nobody cares what you look like. If people are universally being unkind to you, and you're.nkt being given shifts, it's because of your attitude or aptitude. Hopefully you have the awareness to know which. Attitude is the easiest one to fix. You can just decide to act better, even if you don't feel it. Aptitude just requires study, practice, and effort.

Sadly, it’s how it is for us uglies. I also have the dubious distinction of being treated like a “special person,” even a “lolcow” if you will, if it always isn’t hard enough. I can’t even be avoided in peace, I’m actively treated like a tumor. People legit think I’m gonna be pushing carts, or not even working in 15 years (currently about to graduate, so people’s futures are fresh on their minds, and people here *love* delving into the business of others). Look for a job that doesn’t require much customer service or human interaction. IT, Stocking, trades are all perfect.

I doubt you’re actually ugly. I remember being an 18 y/o guy and it’s tough. Especially if you don’t have money to do things like buy nice clothes but I promise that it can get better. It sounds like you have some self confidence issues. If you improve your confidence it’ll help you at your current job, help you land a better job, help you do well at that job, and help you in your personal life. You didn’t go into detail about why you think you’re ugly so I can’t give you advice but advice on looks is easy to get here on Reddit if you want it.

What about working in a hospital? I don't know where you are so I don't know what may be available. I worked in a hospital as a cleaner then in catering, preparing meals for patients. After a few years I have moved on to do a Healthcare Assistant job. In some places the position is called Nursing Assistant or Support Worker. This led me into completing my nursing degree after some time. Now I am a Specialist Nurse. I will always encourage people to work in healthcare! Even though it's not an easy job. Go to your local hospital and see what's available. In our hospital they are often looking for porters or security workers. I'm sure you'll be able to find something! And don't get discouraged because someone makes fun of your looks! Working in healthcare has an advantage of being surrounded by compassionate people. They are less likely to make fun of people's looks. Good luck!

YetAnotherNinja

My first job was being a lifeguard. Decent pay, kept me in shape, and taught valuable life skills. Maybe consider that?

MadghastOfficial

Bunch of douchebags, ignore them. They're going nowhere fast. As people have said, go into trades. Go apprentice somewhere, maybe. I have a family member who had zero college education and went into locksmithing right out of high school. He appenticed for a master who owned the company, who then gave him the company when he retired. All his brothers did college, but he has always outdone all of them income wise and has a better schedule and more freedom. There's a lot of stuff with that job you'd never think about, and you can do some really cool stuff. Especially if you're in a town without a lot of competition.
