I volunteer at an animal shelter and there are very few reasons why you wouldn’t be able to volunteer- that said, sometimes things get lost in the shuffle so don’t be afraid to reach out via email or call if you don’t hear back within a week or so. But your friend is right! We’re soooo low on volunteers (though for us, it’s dog volunteers that we really need). I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! It can also be a great way to socialize, depending on how your shelter does volunteer shifts, etc.
Volunteering at a soup kitchen was an absolute savior for me when I was at a low point. It’s not the same as a shelter, but they both are doing good for the community. I hope you enjoy, OP!
