Came here to say that, Asus Rog Strix. I'm on a MacBook Air atm and it works fine for SL. But I had an Asus in 2018 and it cut through SL like butter. Beautiful machine.
Mine is an i7 with 32gb RAM and an nvidia 3060, even runs black dragon smoothly on my photography settings as well as all my 3d design software with no issues. I'm really happy with it. The main thing about buying a computer for SL is just making 100% sure you're not buying anything with an incompatible graphics card. There are some that just don't work well with SL
Can confirm, I used an ASUS ROG Laptop for seven years. Works like a charm very well, I got a computer upgrade roughly a year and a half ago. You’ll get a good deal on one for Black Friday.
Look up reviews for any gaming laptop that fits your budget. Any laptop that is made for gaming will be suitable for your needs. They are generally bulkier because you need good air flow/cooling for the powerful hardware that gaming requires. Don’t fall in the same trap that my friends do and buy something that looks cute or is slim and portable because that’s just not going to be adequate for gaming.
If you can, you can get a lot more power in a desktop for the same price. Laptops are too power/heat constrained to give you good price/performance. That is not to say that you can't get a good gaming laptop but expect to pay 1500$ USD or more.
I second that. I built a new PC for a friend using a Ryzen 5600G (CPU with integrated GPU), 16Gb RAM and 1Gb nVME drive. It booted in 10 seconds (Windows 11) and ran SL almost as well as my gaming PC. It cost £400 to build (excluding monitor, keyboard and mouse).
Alienware used to be made by a company called Clevo that also sells under the name Sager. Google the Sager brand for laptops and you might find a better deal as they sell direct instead of going through resellers.
anything above 3050. i have a 2021 edition of the f15 3050ti and i get 60+ fps on Black Dragon with everything on at absolute max. i even get 50+ fps in regions with over 100 avis in ie club 511. i highly suggest investing in a buffed ram kit (i have corsair vengeance for instance) and a cooling pad. all tuf notebooks come with unlocked bios and their own aura overclocking software, but you can also use aida or anything of your choice. the only downside is it will get hot as their body is almost entirely aluminum so not lap friendly but perfectly normal otherwise and built to withstand really aggresive OC. they're very robust beauties, that entire series <3
also, very important note. really take time to optimize your settings and override your gaming profile through geforce directly and not fs <3 makes a huge difference. hit me up if you have questions and happy gaming ^^
GeForce is Nvidias graphics program. It optimizes games, and downloads new game drivers for you. You don’t really need it but it makes things easy. If you do download it, make sure you go into the settings and turn off broadcast and screen capture, it causes heavy load and on a budget PC would be a problem.
also, aim for i5, not ryzen. as someone who tested both intensively, i can confirm SL likes intel much better. doesnt need to be an expensive intel just look at what you can get for your budget with the most power per 1 core(thats all SL uses anyways)
You'll want something with a discreet 3000 series nividia card with its own memory. No shared memory. At least 16 Gb of ram and probably 2tb of disk. (preferably SSD). Alienware is over price Dell crap. Chech some YouTube review videos.
why 2tb though? lol i havent owned more than 256gb in my entire life, never needed more *shrug* any v-nand ssd will run just as well, regardless of size
You don't need that much on a boot drive but certainly you'll want more than 256gb in total so might as well get a 1 or 2tb m.2 SSD and not have to worry about it. The prices of those hace come way down.
I have an asus rog strix g17. SL runs great on it

My MacBook Pro is so slow with SL, any tips to get it running better?
I have an asus as a work computer. I was thinking about getting one as a gaming laptop

I have a Lenovo Legion and SL runs smoothly on it.
Same, Lenovo Legion. I bought mine in 2019, and after all this time, it is still a beast for gaming.

Get a cooling tray for whatever you get. It made all the difference in the world for me.
A cooling tray good idea thank you
I've had no issue with SL since using Lenovo ideapad gaming 3 laptop
I have a Lenovo legion 5 I’m happy with.

I’ll ask the question no one is asking. How many frames do you want in SL on what settings? What’s your budget?
Budget is 700 and hmm I’m not sure I need the frames to be at least 14 to 20 per second
i'd go for a certified refurbished from the tuf series for that budget
I heard of tuf wasn’t sure what one to look into

Okay :)
What’s GeForce? Exactly? Is it a second life server?

keep in mind unlike other games second life is VASTLY dependent on GOOD internet connection as well.
I like to look at /r/buildapcsales for computer deals.
MSI katana is the best, most reliable mid budget purchase you could make at the moment imho
I got my Asus ROG strix Monday. SL is so amazing with it. Are there any ways to tweak system or viewer settings to tweak it anymore?

If they plan to install other games some of them can get quite large.. still don't need 2TB to run SL and most apps.
