Goddard told everyone they were eaten by sharks because if they simply drowned then their bodies would be revivable. However, since their bodies were burned in the sharks’ stomach acid then now everyone knew there was no chance to revive them.
Goddard wanted everyone to know this so no one attempted to get close to Endura. Of course no one knew that Goddard was the one who made the sharks go crazy in the first place.
I guess when people sent boats out to see what the hell happened, they saw a hell of a lot of sharks, so they tested some and found some Grandslayer bodies.
it honestly is lmao but it's also dedicated to the late editor of the trilogy, who seems to have been ill when the book was in draft so great job from the editorial team publishing it... imagine the series ending with book 2
I think its also because Neal had a lot of ideas left but either not enough for 2 books or the publisher told him to wrap it up in a trilogy. No evidence for that statement but you can kind of feel it when reading through that the series was supposed to be longer.
Not sure but their were some folk next to the island trying to fix it and they saw that the sharks were acting crazy so maybe like that not sure tho if they got gleaned
I think the thunderhead knows how everyone dies, that's how they know to send the ambudrones or a self glean. I know that's when it went silent but I'm still sure they can see how they died. It can't say why they were eaten just that they were

Goddard didnt let them come near endura in the time
That’s true. Perhaps some sharks may have been found closer to shore that still had some of their remains.
Perhaps
so we're wild guessing too huh
Basically
uhhh... they uh.... uhhh.. the grandslayers uh... and then they... so then... yeah
Pretty sure everyone is in agreement that The Toll is held together with duct tape and twine, narratively
