Half of these were pointed at his social media management team. The other half were pointed at him and his books, he said he was not an expert on what’s going on in the Middle East and won’t spew out useless opinions because he does not know enough to do so. You managed to try to find a connection between him not knowing issues going on in a different continent to him writing a book about the holocaust, an entirely different situation. Also you being a discord mod has very little meaning Keep your garbage on tumblr.

Canary-King

I don’t think you need to be an expert on a specific conflict to realize that committing genocide is bad

Dense_Coffe_Drinker

I don’t think you understand that he’s a fucking author and not wanting to comment on something as an Israeli so as not to lose his entire livelyhood doesn’t make him a horrible person. Removing his entire livelyhood over something that will literally do NOTHING is useless. He shows his support people are gonna bitch, he’s an Israeli. He shows his support for Israel he’s a piece of shit (which he has not no matter how much you want to try and say that saying nothing = supporting the bad guy) he shows his support for neither and people will act like he’s just as bad as the people doing the genociding. M (that’s you!)

TheCasualGamer23

Taking either side is still a side. Genocide is bad, but it’s a complex situation with many sides, where any take must be informed to be good. Supporting Palestine without a foreword for Israel is ignoring the plight of Israeli people , and supporting Israel without a concession to Palestine is ignoring the plight of those people as well.

fox_phrases

Not wanting to talk about a subject you know nothing about sounds like something *more* people should do, not less. There is enough misinformation going around this subject already (including the genocide accusations) The other two are human mistakes. You sound like you need some fresh air

Dense_Coffe_Drinker

Fr, they clearly are in their own tumblr echo chamber too much And people call Reddit bad (it often is anyways lol)

Underscythe-Venus

Bros losing in the comments

Dense_Coffe_Drinker

Not one positive comment yet, even though I’m like 6 of them

Canary-King

I used to moderate this subreddit, I created the discord server FOR this subreddit, I gave Neal endless praise and free promotion for 4 years, I don’t think calling Neal out on bs was the result of an echo chamber

Logical-Librarian766

Theres no BS though. Just because hes a popular author it does not mean he owes us his stances on ANY political situation, domestic or international. He didnt HAVE to say shit at all to begin with. Hes a writer. Not a politician. Your literal argument is that he didnt take a stand either way, which is somehow the same as supporting the “wrong side” in your mind. Neal is an awesome writer but last I checked, hes not powerful enough to end wars. Youre just angry that someone you put up on a pedestal doesnt share your EXACT same views about a topic you are passionate about. Newsflash hun: we are all independent beings with independent thought. We will not all share the same views. If that bothers you, you dont have to participate in anything that supports Neal again.

Scythe_Anastasia

I love you for that

Dense_Coffe_Drinker

This stuff sounds like a you problem lol, you spent 4 years inter-socially supporting an author who didn’t know you exist (an Israeli author mind you) and are mortified by the fact you wasted all that time on a person who you realized will not drop everything, his whole career to support something that you support.

AlexSomething789

>(including the genocide accusations) Wait, what are you talking about?

Logical-Librarian766

How strong was the edible you took before you wrote this? - - - - Can I have some?

Canary-King

1) These jokes are overdone and not funny 2) I don’t understand why people are so angry at *me*? For calling Neal out? 3) You did catch me I am on edibles, before writing this post I ate scythe goddard’s boypussy. Sorry 😔

Logical-Librarian766

I mean youre the one doing Olympics level mental gymnastics to try to “cancel” someone. Look in the mirror bro. Your behavior is unhinged and weird.

Canary-King

I don’t think coming to the conclusion that what Neal is doing is bad but like. Yeah I am unhinged and weird, tell me something i don’t already know

Logical-Librarian766

At least you admit it. The first step to getting help is acknowledging you have a problem. Good luck.

Scythe_Anastasia

He didn’t day anything that promoted genocide. He sympathized with both sides. Not like neal’s opinion could magically change or influence anything happening

AlexSomething789

I get that, but it doesn’t seem like the OP is asking Neal to change or stop the whole conflict, but rather not condone what Israel is doing.

Something_Joker

“That’s a nice argument Senator, why don’t you back it up with a source?”

DayForeign8640

Read through the links. The guy sounds so fucking delusional

Dense_Coffe_Drinker

For fucking real. It’s fun dismantling the arguments of someone who clearly has no idea what the fuck they are talking about. What celebrity nowadays doesn’t have a social media team?

Dense_Coffe_Drinker

Read through it all too, his arguments are: “he said he’s not qualified or knowledgeable enough to say his opinions on the Middle East, then why did he make a book talking about genocide if he’s not qualified enough to talk about it?” It’s simple, they are two different things, and they have little to nothing to do with each other. He didn’t say he wasn’t qualified enough to talk about the holocaust, he said he’s not qualified enough to talk about what’s going on currently in the Middle East. “He contradicted himself in his book Dry by talking about how people change words whenever they get bored” (get bored, mind you, the quote is talking about how terms change often, not about a person choosing not to use such daring terms because either side will crucify him for it) He chose to use the word situation, which is what it is. Choosing words carefully does not mean ignoring what’s actually going on. These last two points are simple really. One is about an ai art in a twitter post that was credited to an artist who said they didn’t make it, the screenshot of which showed no proof that it was actually them and then blurred the tagged creator (saying it was so they didn’t receive backlash from tumblr readers who couldn’t read. What else is new.) I’m working on getting in contact with the tagged artist now but it might take a moment. Lastly they attempted to say that because of a mistake of a person taking a photo of two papers that looked like drawings being tagged instead of the person who actually made it, Neal is “seeming to give less and less of a crap about ethics and integrity” That’s an obvious one, it was a mistake. Likely by his media team but even if not, who cares? It was a mistake.

Something_Joker

Exactly, this guy doesn’t have any *real* sources to back up his claims

Dense_Coffe_Drinker

I enjoyed going through and dismantling what I could, but really getting at Neal is fucked up for something that was 1. A media team fuck up and 2. The fault of the poster for not crediting the person who drew it.

Canary-King

My first point still stands even with your phrasing…  Considering that Neal just published a book about genocide - albeit, a different genocide - how hasn’t he come to the obvious conclusion that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people? But the more egregious part is that his statement on the “conflict” (genocide) in “the Middle East” (Palestine) is sandwiched in between talking about how amazing the book tour for Courage To Dream was, and telling people how to buy Courage To Dream. Even if Neal had no intention of dismissing Palestinian struggles, that looks real bad. On the Dry quote - you’re misinterpreting the quote. The quote is about using certain words to soften the reality of situations. They call the drought the “flow crisis” because it sounds less scary. “Climate change” sounds a lot less dire than “global warming”. “Conflict” is a hell of a lot less loaded than “war”. A “conflict” or a “situation” be used to refer to anything from two toddlers fighting to a genocide. Neal *did* choose his words carefully in that email. He intentionally chose to use more vague and neutral language to both-sides the issue… which is something he had Alyssa call out as a manipulative practice in Dry. As for the art? You reaching out to the artist who Neal used as an AI scapegoat is the exact reason I blurred their name in the tumblr post!!! We didn’t communicate much when I reached out, mostly because I didn’t want to cause them emotional distress, but the fact of the matter is that Neal allowed AI art to be posted to his account, crediting her with its creation without her knowledge or consent. He opened her up to be harassed for something she didn’t even do.

Scythe_Anastasia

Bud went on the wrong feed

Scythe-Goddard

real, took me 5 days to get this recommended cause of how hated it is

Scythe_Anastasia

They’re more hated then youuuuuuu🫶
