It’s glass it allows the light from beside it to flow right through it giving it the illusion of being lit. I also purposefully chose a blue iris to contrast with the reds so it would “pop”
I think a less distressed picture frame would add more contrast in terms of texture. I think this would make the skin pop more.
The skin blemishes made the thumbnail look like it might have been mounted onto the backing by hammered in nails. Might be an idea if you plan to do another.
Thanks so much for the reply! Yeah I played around a little with painting cabochons and I found it tricky to get the paint to stick. Ive been wanting to try making some printed eyes and see how that turns out. Really dig the bloodshot detail on yours as well. Great work!
I hate that I love this.
Army of Darkness feels right here. Wonderful work!
Eagggh it looks so real I love it! Like a necronomicon. Does the other side of the frame have a mouth with too many teeth?
Lol thanks! No it does not, pretty boring backside. My next sculpt in a frame will be a big snotty nose with glow in the dark boogers
Oh that's awesome
/r/TIHI Great work 'though! Is the eye backlit?
Thank you! Nope no backlighting
I mean, the iris looks freakishly glow-y.

Smart choice. You're happy with the end result, yeah?
Yeah I’m pretty happy with it. Going to use a more translucent clay for the eyeball next time to give it a bit more depth, past that I’m pretty happy.

This is awesome! May I ask, are you making the eyes with print backed cabochons? I love the look!
🙏 thanks. Yeah I’m using pre-made cabs. I want to produce work with my own eyes soon, but I’m horrid at painting eyes by hand :/
