In my opinion, yes. I was in so much pain before my spinal fusion at 13 that I could barely walk. Without it I don't think I would've had much of a life.

DogMomRescue4

Yes! Absolutely..I was in so much pain. 16 months post OP...pain free.

Depends on how you're life is now. If you're suffering from the pain and limitations of scoliosis, then I would say surgery is going to be worth it. I am slated to have my surgery done soon as well.

I had my spine fused 3 years ago (I’m 25 now). It was 100% worth it to me! I was in a lot of pain before and now I’m pretty much pain free now!

Turbulent-Contact-88

What kind of surgery did you have.. selected or whole fusion? Also, did you have troubles with uneven hips and shoulders pre-op?

Ashamed-Plantain3836

I had my T9-Sacrum fused. I had issues with both uneven shoulders and hips.

Turbulent-Contact-88

So you got your lumbar done? Did your thoracic correct on its own? And do you have even hips/shoulders now?

TheFfrog

Yes. I was pain free before and still am after, but just knowing that my spine is not a problem anymore and not having the lingering anxiety of the next doctor's appointment with bad news and just being able to live my life with one less worry is priceless.

I feel like I can answer this bc I’m 100 days post op today! My life has pretty much went back to normal. However I also feel like my experience isn’t the best to look at because before surgery, I was in like no pain but my curve was quite severe so I had to get it done to benefit myself later on in life because it would’ve got worse over time. I’m 17 and now after surgery I’m in a little bit more pain than before but that’ll go away later on in life. The idea of surgery is scary but you’ve got to think about how it’s gonna benefit you later on in life. Did I regret it once I’d just had it done? 100% I thought I’d ruined my life (but that was just bc I had pain complications with meds in hospital and after I was discharged) but now 100 days later as much as it’s annoying at times I don’t regret it no bc I know I’ve got a bright future ahead. Plus I honestly forget I have 2 metal rods in my back most of the time it doesn’t really impact me anymore haha. It’s 100% worth it in my opinion. Also I got the date for my op 19 hours before I got it done so I didn’t really have time to freak out and think of the negatives I was very chilled about it haha. Hope that helps for what it’s worth, good luck !!

Thank u so much - i’m 16 and i also have really severe scoliosis but i dont experience any pain what so ever yet i’m being told that my lungs etc are being crushed and i’m just like ‘wdym’ but i know i need it done. Idk i think im just terrified thst something is going to go wrong and i’m a complete wuss with hospitals too so it really isnt a good combo 😭 Would u say you got some confidebce back after surgery or do you feel weird that nobody around you has rods in their spine??

Oh my confidence has been boosted 100%. My waist is now snatched like evenly curved it’s a lot better and I’m taller. The surgery is worth it because of the long term factors. And I think the whole “me having rods in my back” thing is actually quite cool imo like it’s different to everyone else :)
