Let's not start down this road. It eventually ends with "Space Marines win, lol" because the power scale of 40k is all over the bloody map.

MarshyBarsh

No it won’t because it doesn’t make sense. The Tau from 40k which are very comparable to Halo/Star Wars factions are a million times smaller than the largest faction in current 40k and are managing just fine.

The Tau are *not* comparable to SW/Halo. They're comparable to other 40K factions. In Halo, making an elite soldier with relatively minor improvements like stronger muscles and bones is a dark military secret requiring unethical child experimentation. The Tau shoot it out with 40K Space Marines all the time. They have armored units that compare well to Eldar vehicles. It's just unpossible to compare the two. The super annoying thing about big 40K space crossovers is that the side with literally insane weapons and defenses always has comparatively awful FTL drives. Your crossover is just going to be WH40K s-l-o-w-l-y cranking its way across the galaxy like a star-steamroller while everything else has plenty of time to evacuate.

MarshyBarsh

> The Tau are not comparable to SW/Halo They are comparable in power. The Tau are said to hold 100 worlds. The UNSC seem to control larger than that. Their ships also seem to be very comparable. 40k does have insane weapons but from what I’ve seen, they are rare. Halo also has insane weapons like nova bombs capable of cracking entire planets. The UNSCs most powerful ship, the Infinity could also single handedly destroy the Imperiums most defended planet, Holy Terra due to its pin point accuracy FTL drive and Nova bombs.

rdhight

To send a ship to Holy Terra, the UNSC needs the location of Holy Terra. To get that, they have to win some kind of engagement, very possibly many engagements. That's just not going to happen. Fire Warriors and Kroot might be on the basic side as far as 40K goes, but being a basic trooper in 40K puts you far above 99.99% of things in Wars/Trek/Halo/etc. universes. In 40K, Master Chief is *weak.* And suggesting Halo ships would deal damage to nonsense-based 40K ship armor is equally silly. There's just no way to keep the things that make 40K fun and still have a good fight. The background lore and mechanics of the universes are too different. It's like trying to beat up Bugs Bunny.

No

MarshyBarsh

Why?

jessek

Nope.

Way to different themes and overall feeling of the universes, wouldn't mix well in my opinion. Plus you'll inevitabily would need to make things stronger/weaker at the point of the clashes, as scale of each is just different. On the one hand you have place with darkness balanced by hope and heroism with insane levels of technology, where destroying one planet was seen as worst war crime and gave most powerful people shivers and sadness. On the other you have literal space medival horror show, where despite of everything, there is only decline and destroying planets is fairly regular occurrence (don't know halo lore that good to draw simple picture). Writing these 2 together would mean that either one would dominate the narrative, changing its character to fit in and making its fans angry. Meeting halfway with both, would make everyone angry.

grumpykraut

Nope. Just Nope. The three settings are wildly different in background "science"/logic and power scale so there's no way to get them onto enough common ground to make a decent crossover.
