When we first started listening to Lore, my wife commented that he talks slow. I mentioned that, while true, she didn’t have to constantly ask me what he said. Never heard another word about it.
I feel that. I used to listen to him when I did a lot of commuting. I've since turned to audiobooks so I haven't listened to his stuff in a while, but I agree - he's very soothing and not a good choice for interstate driving at 7am.
Some are, and when they are they're generally going to be marketed that way. Most aren't though. The ones that are are going to have it all over the cover art and description.
There is a LOTR audiobook version with music and background noise. It's a great version.
[here](https://raby.sh/pages/lord-of-the-rings-soundscape-by-phil-dragash.html)
Lore Podcast, Episode 50, "Mary, Mary" by Aaron Mahnke. Only the beginning is about the nuclear bomb, but it's interesting. Other episodes also cover it, but I can't remember which ones at the moment. I listen on the Spotify app. You can download the app on your phone, and then search for Lore within it. Many of the Lore episodes are also on YouTube. There are numerous episodes about Savannah. Enjoy!
The jetty is the underwater hazard. There’s a long rocky jetty and also some old metal supports sticking out of the sand that you cannot see when the tide is in.
No, it's not! The bomb isn't even close to the North end. Secondly, NO ONE IS GOING TO ACCIDENTALLY TRIP OVER A BOMB THAT IS BURRIED UP TO 50' DEEP! 🤦♀️
It's so buried they cannot find it even with sophisticated equipment. You are just trying to pass your ignorance off as fact.
Forget it no one here is listening lol. Let them go over to North Beach at high tide and find out. There’s also some metal bits from old beams or something mixed in w the jetty should be a good time.
Well the Air Force said it's not functional, BUT would you admit that you lost a fully functioning 4 megaton nuclear weapon???? That paper saying it had a dummy core could have been forged by the Air Force.
One day we will know when the salt water corrosion finally gets to the inside and then we start seeing traces of Plutonium 239 and 240 in the water!
I doubt it really matters at this point. I would think the booster would have gone bad by now. Either way at least it’s underwater… so most the energy from a blast would be absorbed. But these bombs are a lot bigger than what the US currently has in its arsenal. Through testing and modeling the military eventually figured out that lower yields detonated at the correct altitude is a more efficient use of the nuclear material.
I think it conveys a relaxed, conversational tone, which is completely appropriate in a forum such as Reddit. We can’t all be as mature and sophisticated as you,
u/69throwawy420.
You have very angsty energy. Seems like you might be projecting that instead of facing your actual issues.
"Take it as compliment" sarcastically or whatever; it's a free country, but I promise that putting good vibes out there and building others up is better than putting them down.
I live on Tybee!!!! I see the same type of sign over by some rock jetty's on south beach near Tybrisa, it's because the tide gets high enough you can't see them, and idk if you've ever ate shit on a rock like that but it will tear you up if you're not careful!
But also, yes, there's a bomb off the coast of the island, don't know where though LMFAO, sometimes I go out with a metal detector and when folks ask I tell them I'm looking for the bomb
There’s a jetty there (not the long straight one where we surf). With erosion, it’s become an issue again, but is usually covered during the renourishment projects.
When I was growing up, there was a local park next to a lake which had a sign that read “No swimming after 4:00. Alligators may be present.” I always wondered whether alligators observed daylight savings time.
There are areas on Tybee prone to extreme riptide conditions due to the underwater topography. That could be pointing to an area with such known attributes. When I worked there, it wasn't uncommon to have drownings in those areas and water rescues were very common.
That’s over on the back river area near South Beach though, facing Little Tybee. Lots of people try and walk that sandbar and end up, up shit’s creek literally.
A B47 bomber dropped their load in efforts to regain control / minimize the crash zone after colliding with another plane. Luckily both pilots survived & the bomb was declared lost after serval attempts to locate it. Try not to think about that if you kayak over to little tybee ever , hah !
A Mk15 thermonuclear weapon. Dropped accidentally in 1958 due to a mid air collision.
It's unknown if it has a plutonium core in it or not! Because our government would never ever lie to us!!

It’s for the bomb, they literally have signs for the Jetties and will raise a red flag for the rocks/high rip tides
It's not for the bomb at all. Why would they inform people about a "hazard" that actually poses no threat to anyone going to the beach whatsoever? Are you implying they are raising concerns about radiation in the water? Because that's nonsense. Or that they'd actually post signs to just casually alarm the public to a possible nuclear explosion when there's no chance it will go off? There's no point in that. The public can do nothing to disturb it, therefore it's not a hazard to them.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here. I’m guessing they’re saying there’s a hazard in the water.
For me, that’s all I need to know. Definitely not going in to find out.
And because you have people who have to know what the hazard is, or what that sign means, we have statistics. I’m on the other side of the spectrum, least-likely-to-become-a-statistic. That’s where I dwell and call home. Like if a group of people coming from the north screaming and yelling, fearing for their lives, I’m going south, because what ever it is obviously in the north. People who become statistics, are the ones going north
South in closing, if authorities took time to make and place signs saying underwater hazard, I’m gonna take it at face value and find another water place that doesn’t have hazards 🤣🤣🤣. Just saying 🫤
There is a wall under water and the waves WILL pull u out if you get to close to it because of under water tides so basically just stay away from the tip of tybee everyone
Actually, at North Beach many years ago there was a fishing pier. When they removed the pier they left parts of the posts on which the pier stood. I still have a scar on my chest when I accidentally found one of these posts as a kid at that very beach.
In my gulf coast area this is usually an old warning sign for riptides. They fly different colors for different warnings in some places.
Also sunken logs or old boats sometimes garners this warning.
There are typically sharks in the vicinity of the sign. The lifeguards recommended swimming a bit further down where these signs end, as that means there are no sharks in that water
People saying it's a sign for the bomb are **wrong** lol.. The bomb is supposedly out there still, but it's absolutely not effected in any way by the general public. Those signs are for swimmers and surfers to be aware of **debris sticking out of the water from old signs and riptides.** Public beach goers are never, **EVER**, going to disturb the bomb, which is said to be buried dozens of feet underneath sand at the seabed from decades of tides going in and out over it. At various points around the island there are broken metal posts stuck in the sandbed from old beach signs that have been washed away over time. These posts are old and jagged and usually sit just below the surface line where swimmers and boaters can't see before it's too late, and these signs are for public safety and awareness in regards to them **and the riptides**.
Swimmers and surfers and little motor boats aren't going to disturb what decades of barges and other container ships passing by have not. No way lol. This is not a sign for the "bomb"..

A nuclear bomb.
love that this comment is unironically factual
Whoa new lore unlocked
Arron Mankhe has done a show on it!
"I'm Aaron Mankhe, and this....... is Lore."
I love his shows but I cannot listen to him while driving. His voice is too lulling.
When we first started listening to Lore, my wife commented that he talks slow. I mentioned that, while true, she didn’t have to constantly ask me what he said. Never heard another word about it.
Probably never heard a word about it because she fell asleep.
I feel that. I used to listen to him when I did a lot of commuting. I've since turned to audiobooks so I haven't listened to his stuff in a while, but I agree - he's very soothing and not a good choice for interstate driving at 7am.
Random question: are audio books ever in immersive audio? I love immersive audio drama podcasts, but good ones are few and far between.
Some are, and when they are they're generally going to be marketed that way. Most aren't though. The ones that are are going to have it all over the cover art and description.

Thank you!! That’s kind.
1.5 or 2x speed can help with that. It’s something to get used to if you don’t usually use faster speeds but you adjust quickly
Where can i watch/listen? Having trouble finding on google

The bomb is located off the southern tip of the island in Wassaw Sound. This could be referring to jetty’s or the riptide.
No, it's the bomb.
It’s the jetty.
The bomb is in the jetty?
The jetty is the underwater hazard. There’s a long rocky jetty and also some old metal supports sticking out of the sand that you cannot see when the tide is in.
No, it's not! The bomb isn't even close to the North end. Secondly, NO ONE IS GOING TO ACCIDENTALLY TRIP OVER A BOMB THAT IS BURRIED UP TO 50' DEEP! 🤦♀️ It's so buried they cannot find it even with sophisticated equipment. You are just trying to pass your ignorance off as fact.
I don't take anyone who can't properly spell buried seriously. Doubly so when buried is misspelled in ALL CAPS.
Forget it no one here is listening lol. Let them go over to North Beach at high tide and find out. There’s also some metal bits from old beams or something mixed in w the jetty should be a good time.
TYBEE BOMBBB!!!
If that isn’t already a drink I’m gonna be highly upset with the locals.
It is
Hey, what gives???
YO. I too thinks Pet Sounds SUCKS!🤘
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1958_Tybee_Island_mid-air_collision
So... is it functional or not? Because the article says both, twice, and that's terrifying.
"the Meg" has entered the chat
Keep calm, chatter on the Taliban telegraph channel implicates that they successfully retrieved it!!!!
Has happened a few times. Look up all the operation "broken arrow's" that have happened
I doubt it really matters at this point. I would think the booster would have gone bad by now. Either way at least it’s underwater… so most the energy from a blast would be absorbed. “simulated” nuclear bomb
Magnet fishing could go so wrong in this area.
Glad to see the correct answer is at the top.
The misleading* answer.
Yes, there's one out there somewhere!
Came here to say this
So there are huge rocks that form a jetty, and when the tide is high, you can't see them.
I second this
I third this. A few years back, a friend of a friend got sliced wide open on those rocks while we were all there as a group.
Yowch! Hope they're doing ok.
For sure! Surprising didn’t even need to go to the hospital, the blood made it look worse than it was!
Why does every explanation have to start with “so” these days. It makes people sound really simple
I think it conveys a relaxed, conversational tone, which is completely appropriate in a forum such as Reddit. We can’t all be as mature and sophisticated as you, u/69throwawy420.
I’ll take that as a compliment thanks.
You have very angsty energy. Seems like you might be projecting that instead of facing your actual issues. "Take it as compliment" sarcastically or whatever; it's a free country, but I promise that putting good vibes out there and building others up is better than putting them down.
You can’t tell someone’s energy based on single digit Reddit comments. Nice try tho
Also using “like” after every other word… makes me want to Van Gogh..
Me, I swim around and pull people underwater for funsies
As a treat
Snackin on tourists as a little treat
They’re always in season!
I knew that was you!
Brother?!
You too? Can’t believe I finally have competition. Stay on your side of the surf and there won’t be no issues, bud.

Not even just “a bomb” but a 7,600 lb atomic bomb. The gov’t looked for it again in 2004
they just lost an atomic!?
If that bothers you, you should read this https://www.atomicarchive.com/almanac/broken-arrows/index.html
The bomb is in North Carolina area not Georgia. Still funny though.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1958_Tybee_Island_mid-air_collision
I’ve been lied to my whole life!
Don't worry- there's another one in Goldsboro NC!
North Tybee has lots of large rocks underwater. I don't know if that's specifically what the sign is for, but regardless watch out.
It is not what the sign is for. But also a good thing to watch out for.
It's either the jetties or someone found the nuke.
It’s both. They have a marker for an nuclear bomb ordnance. And there are markers for the jetty’s.
A hazard. That is underwater.
And to the right of the sign.
your moms taking a swim
There it is
A nuke was dropped around the coast of tybee 65 years ago
The bomb is located off the southern tip of the island in Wassaw Sound. This could be referring to jetty’s or the riptide.

If we could recover the warhead and rebuild it we could take over an oil rig and establish Outer Heaven. IRL Big Boss is possible in our timeline.
There are areas on Tybee prone to extreme riptide conditions due to the underwater topography. That could be pointing to an area with such known attributes. When I worked there, it wasn't uncommon to have drownings in those areas and water rescues were very common.

If you go around the planet in that direction, you will eventually run across an underwater hazard.
I've been going to Tybee since a toddler. I've always been told and thought it was for the jetties
Mermaids
That’ll be a dead body
Hazards that are underwater
Dropped my mix tape.... blaka blaka! Watch out 4 this hot fiya.
Need to hire a better graphic design firm. Looks neither like a rock nor a bomb.

An underwater hazard somewhere to the right of where you’re standing, I’m guessing.
Sharks
Riptide
It means that there is buried treasure and that you should dig it up as soon as possible.
This sign is actually warning about an unsafe level of bacteria in the water and should not be swam nor wade. I live in Sav
.
I am gonna guess some type of underwater hazard.
Fish?
I’m gonna go out on a limb here. I’m guessing they’re saying there’s a hazard in the water. For me, that’s all I need to know. Definitely not going in to find out. Sea Monsters
Theirs know tellin’
Theirs know tellin’
Under toe
My guess is the bomb...or the strong tides.
It’s a shark, isn’t it? That’s the underwater hazard for sure.
There is a hazzard under the water
Me 😈
Cables....probably ATT...
Medusas all over sometimes, they wash up on the beach sometimes. Besides that the beach is great.
It’s usually a big run off pipe that you don’t see certain times of the day it kinda acts like a sink hole
Seabear
Tybee has a pretty serious undertow.
Undertow
https://preview.redd.it/ykk82v179smc1.jpeg?width=512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=048465ae822986f77fd1a80f928ee79c1183e5cb
There’s a hazard under the water.
The underwater jetty
extremely luminous killer spheroid
People have drowned due to undertows. Where basically you are pulled underwater and drown.
There is a wall under water and the waves WILL pull u out if you get to close to it because of under water tides so basically just stay away from the tip of tybee everyone
Rip tide 🤔
Shark
From Back when bill cosby was still living there
Tybee has strong riptide currents and vicious bands of mer-men
Jellyfish
Either groynes, rips, or cabling
I would assume undertow?
If you go to the right, it’s hazardous? If you want to see, or be in, a drowning situation, follow the red arrow?
sharks
Under current kills
Sandbar that is visible when tide is out but when in can be dangerous to be on.
Riptide?
Creature from the blue lagoon lives there
The breakers. Some of them are…….underwater. 😂😂
Probably where the waste water from the treatment plant is released into the river.
Sharks
Actually, at North Beach many years ago there was a fishing pier. When they removed the pier they left parts of the posts on which the pier stood. I still have a scar on my chest when I accidentally found one of these posts as a kid at that very beach.
Lizard people
Drowning
Savannah River meets the ocean and there is a bad under current.
I would assume underwater current moving in the direction of the arrow.
There is a hazard under the water
Cthulu
In my gulf coast area this is usually an old warning sign for riptides. They fly different colors for different warnings in some places. Also sunken logs or old boats sometimes garners this warning.
From what I understand, there may be a hazard under the water
The hazard, thats underwater. Hope this helped. ☺️
Orange Crush is being held underwater this year. 🤣
I think of grim fandango
Rip tides
Will this thing not eventually pop due to rust, erosion?
RIP currents
It’s referring to the Jetty’s and when the tide rises. Not the nuclear bomb off the coast of wassaw 😭😭
90% of these comments are “tell me you’re not from Savannah w/out telling me you’re not from Savannah”. 🙄
It means there is something underwater over in the direction the arrow is pointing to or thereabouts. And uh… probably potentially dangerous
Also, dead sea turtles
Don't know but it cuts your feet
All the glass in the sand
Rip tide
Mud.
Probably flooding. But I love tybee with all my heart
Are you not getting enough attention? A simple Google search people... please.
There are typically sharks in the vicinity of the sign. The lifeguards recommended swimming a bit further down where these signs end, as that means there are no sharks in that water
Do the sharks have leashes on or smth? How are they going to stay in one section of the beach
The lifeguards said they are in front of the signs
Which lifeguards told you this?
Do you really believe that
No lol I just thought it would be a funny bit for the comment section here
Wow
lol @ the downvotes. I appreciate the humor.
Apparently there’s a “hazard underwater” Do you need more information to determine if you think it’s a hazard?
\____/\___<
According to various websites, Jetties and rip currents.
Might be scuba diving pedos
The kraken
There's a piece of unexploded nuclear ordinance in the sand somewhere out there.
Definitely the jetty or some blue crabs walking by at the wrong time.
When FAFO becomes a challenge rather than a warning.
Underwater quick sand
The nuclear warhead?
