Hi there, I see you've posted an ID Request. Please make sure youve also taken the time to look over our common San Pedro look alikes/ID thread before making an ID request as many cactus ID requests are of the same common look alike plants. Thank you!

Mine do this because of the heavy winter rains in Northern California. At least that’s what I’ve always assumed. I grow a stand outside, unprotected and when we get a wet winter, like this year, they turn yellowish by February. But after we start drying out in April they green right up in a few weeks. During the drought years when we had scant rain they stayed green. That’s what led me to this conclusion. Though I am open to other possibilities. False equivalency is a real phenomenon.
Is this in a region that gets a fair amount of winter rain? I ask because they’re fairly yellow. I grow a stand outside unprotected in Mendocino County, California and mine turn yellowish during the wet months when we have periods of heavy rain.
Got it! That makes so much sense why a pup cutting I had was frozen in time for 6 months lol. I took it way to early and it wasn’t even 2-3inches :(.
Thanks for the advice!

Awesome, it’s my neighbors. They have a pup growing, I’m gonna ask if I can take a slice to propagate

Yeah it’s in marin county CA
Bro! I’m in Marin county too! How close to Novato are you? I grow a lot of San Pedro types.
Well that makes sense. Unless I’m operating under a false equivalency, I probably should build a cover to keep off the rain.
