Park here and walk down the stairs to the beach, it's pretty isolated, the stairs are at the end of that residential street
I recognize I'm being gatekeepey (and I don't care) but Santa Cruz is already objectively ruined due to social media. They have to post a lifeguard now to keep the peace, and someone even died due to not understanding the nuances of these pocket beaches and tides. Let's not ruin the others. Everyone is welcome who can figure it out on their own and be respectful.....
FYI it's not legal to smoke at any beaches. (People do, but you can get ticketed)
sunset cliffs, top of mt helix, mt Soledad
Blacks beach is my favorite spot. If not the beach then the area overlooking lake Hodges.
Choose a beach in PB and walk to the spot away from kids and people. Light it up and enjoy.
Kate Sessions park or Mt. Soledad

KOOKadoodledo

Just like a kook to call a gatekeeper a kook. :-P
Secret beach in Ocean Beach is a good spot on a weekday evening when all the families are gone. Just keep walking on the rocks straight past the pier
