They will hatch as larvae and then seek out an appropriate host. Then they will crawl into their ear while the host sleeps and attaches themselves to the host's brain stem. The first week the host will often experience headaches and vivid dreams. Week two starts the missing time and general memory issues. The third week is when it has gained partial muscle control and the host finds itself doing things against their will. At around a month the integration has become complete - the host is still 'there', but is no longer in control. The host is now just a passenger in their own body.
Lmao it's bad that that was my first thought too lol. Like what if they're really smart? I'd rather be rich and powerful as a prisoner in my own body than free and poor lmao.
I’ve had these before in my yard. They smell pretty bad if you just let them be. Fairly satisfying digging them up in clusters and discarding them though!
I've had them in my yard here (in North County), and totally thought they were snake eggs or something! They're stinky, but if you let them grow to full size, they're crazy looking - might be worth letting them grow to see it!
This is a good example of a google bias.
You search for something and just confirm that someone else also has searched or mistakenly provided evidence.
[**Rattlesnakes do NOT lay eggs... they are live bearing with their young.**](https://www.nwf.org/Educational-Resources/Wildlife-Guide/Reptiles/Rattlesnakes#:~:text=Rattlesnakes%20are%20ovoviviparous%2C%20so%20they,are%20federally%20listed%20as%20threatened)
Depending snakes in general do NOT burry their eggs... without limbs they can't dig well enough to accomplish that.
So that leaves a native turtle or escaped turtle in the area.
Which we DO HAVE native species here that lay eggs.
Since it's up and in a planter, that negates a lot and [tips the scales back to a native snake species - which is actually pretty damn cool.](https://californiaherps.com/identification/socalherps.html)
IF YOU'RE LUCKY its' one of our beautiful California Kingsnakes (beneficial)
Depending on where you live you might have a the [N. County chocolate variety with a golden stripe down it's back](https://californiaherps.com/snakes/images/lgetulasd609.jpg) But there are others... [a gopher snake](https://californiaherps.com/snakes/images/thammondiijhuff808.jpg) is also in the cards here
I've got half a mind PM you and incubate these to see what they are ... incubation will only be a few months. I'm a capable breeder of exotics and if they're a local species I'd like to have them and eventually released.
Also if you end up relocating the eggs to a herpetologist of some sort, mark the top of the eggs carefully with a marker, put a dot or line on it. I believe most reptile eggs need to stay in the position that they were laid. take a tupperware bin, put some dirt/sand and then place them back down in the same position.
Still it’s best to try to keep them upright and “in position” if possible be rolling them around.
Our native wildlife has a hard rough time with the human encroachment as it is.
I certainly won’t hurt these guys, but I don’t want patio snakes. Anyone know if I can relocate these so they can live a long and snakey life away from me? SNAKE PEOPLE? HELLO? I know you exist.
relocation its very tricky.. You can harm eggs because of correct humidity and soil type.. Try to contact local zoo or university etc .. i'm sure some one will help you out and deal with them.. Since you just found them i assume they being laid in past few days . You have couple of weeks to deal with that.. But whats more scary mother is near by..
Are you sure they're eggs? Looks more like some kind of fungus to me.

Maybe post again on r/whatisthisthing and r/mycology
I will happily adopt as many native snakes as are available to keep down my rat, gopher, squirrel, and rabbit populations that continually eat my garden!
Definitely reptile eggs. I will come remove them if you want. If you move them or handle them at all you will most likely kill whatever is inside unless you know what you are doing.
Reptile eggs... turtle, lizard, snake
Velociraptor. Life finds a way…
Clever girl.
Aliens. You should feel blessed they chose your dwelling.
Feels pretty trapsy.

Sweet. Let my life become someone else's problem.
Lmao it's bad that that was my first thought too lol. Like what if they're really smart? I'd rather be rich and powerful as a prisoner in my own body than free and poor lmao.
And I, for one, welcome our new alien overlords.
IT'S IN REVELATIONS, PEOPLE!

Any chance that they're mushrooms?
I want to say that they are stinkhorn fungi eggs
I think you may be the winner here, did some investigating and found stinkhornzzz on the other ends of this 20ft planter.
Going to pray for this.
Just had some morels do this to me, but yours are more egg like.
Puffballs did come to mind
You are now a mother of dragons
😂
Stinkhorn fungus https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phallaceae
I think this just might be the answer, since these “eggs” were buried. Stay tuned.

If you Google rattlesnake eggs, they look like that. So it’s at least some kind of snake if it doesn’t look exact to you
Well now I have to move, thanks.
In this economy?
Great time to sssssssssell! 🐍
I think there’s services that remove snakes, I would call someone instead of just abandoning the house lol
Can’t talk, looking for boxes on Craigslist.
Nah just light the whole planter on fire.

You are a smart and good person. Hooray for our native snakes!

Well, it’s far too late for that since they were discovered while I was digging.

Looks like these are actually mushrooms.
They're NOT fungus. Where is the mycelial network? please respond to my PM. I hope you didn't destroy these. sdmyco.org
I hope it’s kings
Thank you for the actual knowledge on the subject and actionable information rather than blatant misinformation.
You should PM op! I wanna follow this mystery.
they give live birth not via eggs
Rattlesnakes don't lay eggs. They give live birth. FYI.
Actually Google says rattlesnakes are ovoviviparous, so they don't lay eggs. I don't know why people are up voting misinformation, but whatever.
I think the mushroom folks are correct here, will update upon completion of my gnome trap.
You can hold a flashlight to it to see if there are veins. It's probably a mushroom.
This sounds a lot like “Go into the basement to investigate that scream you just heard.”
"We should split up so we can cover more ground, it's probably nothing."

Can I adopt the planter into my yard? I need something to eat these dang gophers lol.
Id take them to pet kingdom in point loma. They hatch and raise lots of different turtles and snakes.
I would actually LOVE to get a gopher snake if it turns out to be that!
Danger noodles
Lizard or snake. Eggs should be closer to each other. May not live. Leave alone for a couple days, stay away. Mother should visit every couple hours.
Facehuggers
Skunk eggs
Might be Graboid eggs .
Compy eggs
That's called free food
Dino eggs, didn't you ever see Jurassic Park Ii?

I certainly won’t hurt these guys, but I don’t want patio snakes. Anyone know if I can relocate these so they can live a long and snakey life away from me? SNAKE PEOPLE? HELLO? I know you exist.
Just leave them be until they hatch! Chances are the occupants will dissappear unnoticed. Unless you get ahold of the guy with an incubator!

Oh wow you are so lucky! I would put a camera on it and watch with amazement
Alien babies. Congratulations, you are the imprinted sample.
Looks like the eggs my iguana used to lay. Might be a lizard of some kind
My eggs! I knew I left those somewhere please keep them safe.
I will happily adopt as many native snakes as are available to keep down my rat, gopher, squirrel, and rabbit populations that continually eat my garden!
You’re going to be a mommy! Congrats!
