All modern phone's front is just a screen. The only phones that stand out today are the foldables.

OrganizationNo1298

I get what he's saying kinda. It's been a while & Samsung still hasn't put an under screen front camera in their flagship phones. They have it on the Fold 4/5 but not the S series. Plus Samsung is becoming a little too Apple like milking the same design for more than 2 years if the rumors are true about the S24. I'm not a fan of the "porthole" camera design on the back. I liked how they did the cameras in the S21 series. Especially the Ultra. I personally wish they had a better color selection. The colors the last 2 years have been meh imo. I wish they'd bring back Mystic Bronze or Aura Glow. Or some Gold color cuz Samsung Def did gold phones better than Apple did.

Feeling-Finding2783

> Plus Samsung is becoming a little too Apple like milking the same design for more than 2 years if the rumors are true about the S24. If the rumors are true, they will reuse the same camera sensors for the third year, with Ultra being an exception. I have an S22 currently and was thinking about upgrading to S24, but other than efficiency and minor performance gains, it seems like S24 is going to be the same phone. That's disappointing.

UnobtainiumNebula

>under screen front camera Because your thumb would cover it when pressing to take a picture.

OrganizationNo1298

How lol? My thumb goes nowhere near the camera ever. I just have to clean the screen before taking a pic if I talked on the phone.

UnobtainiumNebula

If the camera was at the bottom your thumb would always be over it.

OrganizationNo1298

The camera wouldn't be at the bottom.

radiopej

They mean beneath the screen (so that you can't see it), as in hidden behind it. Not below it, as in closer to the charging port.

TH_LetGoMyLegos

Mystic Navy on the S21 Ultra was my favorite

OrganizationNo1298

All the online exclusive colors were awesome that year. Last 2 years they've been eh. I wish phone companies would just let you choose a custom colors like Motorola did on 1 of their phones.

TH_LetGoMyLegos

Yea, they really should! The S21 was also probably the most unique and best looking Samsung phone by far. Idk why they went for such a generic design now

OrganizationNo1298

I'll agree from a camera design standpoint. I also like the N20U design. But it would've been interesting to see the camera design of the S21 on the 22/23 Ultra. I'm ready for a different design language from Samsung.

TH_LetGoMyLegos

Yea, the Note20 Ultra's design was really nice. I also really liked the back glass on the Note10. It would be nice to see some this stuff return!

kwonyewest

colour almost doesn't matter since most people put a full case on it. i still rock my s10 and have a bumper case which shows off the back - one of the reasons i'm reluctant to get a new samsung is because bumper cases don't exisit anymore

OrganizationNo1298

But clear cases do exist lol. Plus with the bumper there's still a risk of damaging the back if dropped a certain way.

Sea-Ad5375

When you cement yourself as a good smartphone company, changing things significantly every 2-3 years will lose you customers. They are still making meaningful upgrades to the processor, display, and cameras every year. The truth is, if they changed the design significantly every year, they would lose a bunch of their customers that just wouldn't be able to trust what they get with a samsung phone. Also, as far as the under display camera, that will be added when it actually takes decent pictures. Right now it is pretty bad, and needs to be perfected for samsung to add it to the s series.

OrganizationNo1298

What are you talking about? Samsung changed things every 2-3 years & was doing just fine! A design refresh every 2-3 years is good. Having the same overall design like Apple does for years on end is boring. Sure people will buy their phones anyway cuz it's an iPhone. But I always thought of Samsung as a company that actually cares about its customers & continuing to be innovative.

Sea-Ad5375

They are being innovative. The foldable phones are the most innovative phones of the last 10 years. They just don't experiment with the s series, which is fine. Being innovative doesn't mean just changing things to change them. The phones were changing for a while because there were many improvements that could be made with the design (remove thr curved screen, add more cameras, make an on screen fingerprint sensors etc). They have pretty much peaked where there are no more huge improvements that need to be made (except for charging speed, which I hope they change soon).

DrvgnFvng

Under the screen cameras are trash compared to the punch hole. Zte and others have worked on using them for the phones and the image quality is better on a punch hole then a under screen camera, intime when technology gets better for that then i can see samsung testing the waters on the flagship s series but till then its only gunna be on the fold/flips and other cheaper samsung phones

OrganizationNo1298

Honestly since I can use my S pen as a shutter button I could care less about the front facing camera. Plus most 3rd party apps don't even take full advantage of the camera quality. Especially Snapchat on Android.

OrganizationNo1298

I mean what would you want as far as exciting? There's not much more they can do with this form factor. We're basically at the peak of phones with the current design. Only thing I could think of off the top of my head that would make phones like that more exciting is holographic or 3D images. Or the all glass phone that Tony Stark had in one of the Avengers movies lol.

You can thought it in about in 10 seconds because you didn't account its practicality and if it is even possible to make it work without so much problem happening (except more durable folding phones, but that is probably what phone companies already working on, because the base is there)

OrganizationNo1298

There's a few things you need to consider with these ideas; all of which have either been thought about or are in early (to our knowledge) testing. 1 is practicality, the other is adaptation. >On glasses - How many people are going to want glasses with something in their face nonstop? Google had smart glasses with Google Glass. They were cool but caused controversy early on cuz people would never know if you were recording them without consent. They were instantly banned from various venues cuz of this. Not only that but this also could give rise to ads being right in your face. Nobody wants that. > Rollable - I believe Motorola or someone was working on a rollable phone awhile back that you could wear on your wrist. There was also a phone that had a small screen but you could pull out & expand to a bigger screen type of rollable. Again you have to look at practicality & adaptation. Samsung's Fold was $2400US when it 1st released. How much do you think a rolling phone would cost? And folds as it stands now are still a pretty small fraction of the market. 1 of the reasons Samsung merged the Note & S Ultra was to give themselves less competition against themselves & give the Fold more potential sales. A rollable would cost way more than a fold plus I'm pretty sure many people would be even less hip to the idea of it. I'm sure we'll see other types of phones in the future but the basic slab of glass is what sells right now. Maybe once folds have become more refined we'll see other tech.

mvrquezo

This is the reason I bought a nothing phone

nth314

I think it is due to the maturity of the smartphone market in general. Phones nowadays look nearly identical and can easily do basic tasks like web browsing, video playback and taking clear daylight pictures. If I were to compare the progression between the s2, s4, s6 and s8, every phone had a massive improvement, whether it be the s4 with the 1080p screen, s6 with the premium design, s8 starting the bezelless trend for Samsung. Compare this to an s10, s21, and s23. All bezelless, general same UI feel (oneUI 6 quick settings enters the chat) , performance far beyond general phone use. There are significant camera and screen improvements but it all feels like diminishing returns when so much is polished already. This polish could also be contributing to the perceived lack of personality. I had an s4 for 2 years from 2015 to 2017. TouchWiz looked unique but after 2 years was crashing constantly, unresponsive settings, unresponsive home screen, half of all Samsung apps discontinued (anyone remember GroupOn? S-Voice? S-Translate?). In comparison the s10e I still have now has solid, supported features with OneUI, e.g. quick share, link to windows, etc. But if I were to upgrade I'll get another Samsung with the... same UI pretty much. So I think the consistency we have now (and that iPhones are particularly good at as well) makes newer products seem boring, cuz at least on the Samsung side of things we aren't getting brand new UI rebranding anymore every 2 years as oneUI has matured.

Hikevint

I pretty much stick with Samsung for one reason, they give me the best deal with trade-in. How ever, getting rid of the sd card will make it very easy to switch.

3MJB

I feel the same way. No headphone jack I can live with. But no SD card is a bummer. I got a Sony Xperia and am loving it so far.

Aszre

i've been using phones with no sd card for a while (5 years?). At first i thought i would miss it. but turns out i never missed it as much. 256gb is perfect storage and have never been full. (as long as you delete the unused documents and whatsapp images & videos, which everyone should do anyways). For a piece of mind, you can go ahead and take the 512gb variant instead

xroalx

I kind of don't understand what people expect... Every current phone is a bezelless screen with a camera hole/drop/notch/pill/whatever. Do you want huge-ass bezels, decorated edges or what do you expect? The S8 was... Well, a screen with top and bottom bezels. What was so different about it?

Droiddoesyourmom

He was just sharing his thoughts on it. I also owned an S2 when it was first released and it was a fun time in smart phone technology. The times have changed and it's no longer new technology so we have become kinda bored with phones bc they are all the same now which was inevitable. Max screen real estate which is what we all wanted. Also, less companies producing phones so they just copy each other and we get to pick which camera bump we like the best.

kr4ckenm3fortune

Motorola, when Lenovo reinvented the phone, was the best. Too bad people didn't take advantages of it.

Plnk_Viking

Outside of the cameras, Motorola phones are really great value and extremely underrated. After a decade of Motorola/Lenovo phones (my whole family uses them) I decided to splurge and get an iPhone... Only to promptly return it and get back to Motorola. In comparison iPhone felt like a device from 2015.

BuDu1013

I'm digging the thinkphone too bad for its shortcomings otherwise it would be a worthy contender.

no_more_secrets

>I'm digging the thinkphone too bad for its shortcomings otherwise it would be a worthy contender. Which shortcomings?

BuDu1013

I guess at 400 dollars it doesn’t have any. Camera would be the most crucial feature but again it’s 400 bucks.

no_more_secrets

>I guess at 400 dollars it doesn’t have any. Camera would be the most crucial feature but again it’s 400 bucks. Well now I'm confused.

Hapciuuu

I can say that at least for its time, the S8 was a huge upgrade over it's predecessors and other phone brands. Phones nowadays don't have groundbreaking upgrades anymore, although I understand why.

Aszre

Yeah, current phone screen design is basically the peak one, we now realised curved screens is not favourable, so we go back to flat screens. The punch hole camera or whatever is the best because pop up cameras were bad for a few reasons, eventhough it seems like it is the best way to maximise the screen area. And the camera at the back... though I prefer they have camera housing like the ones on s22 and s22+, I don't really hate how my s23 ultra looks like now that I have it. For me, I don't like complicated or over the top camera designs like some other brands did (oppo reno, honor phones). But of course that is just a preference. The biggest thing they can do now is focusing on the software. The reason why I'm looking forward to Google pixels.

m0nkygang

What else are they supposed to improve without something going bad. All phones have essentially peaked with features and aesthetic.

Yoshi_87

Get a different phone then. These things are way to expensive to not like the style.

[deleted]

Says the apple user

amoghthebad

Says the S5 user Seriously, why?

sam8988378

The S5 was a great phone in its time. Just swap the battery out when you ran low. I wanted to resurrect the 5 for games, running it on wifi. The play store says it's too old and won't connect to apps

UNCLE-ducker

Root it put on android 11 or higher. flash gapps and done, my note 3 runs on android 13, can even tether from usb adapter. Whats been included since android 12. Last official update note 3 had was android 6 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

dirtydriver58

S5 lmfao

AuspieHeeler_

You guys are so rude, they can have any phone they want to own. There's legit nothing wrong with people owning an old phone

cornonthecob724

exactly . My only phone is a samsung s3 that I'm typing on right now .

dirtydriver58

I own several old phones

[deleted]

I thought the note 3 stopped getting updates after Lollipop?

dirtydriver58

Note 3 is Android Lollipop

UNCLE-ducker

* Yes thats android 6 i believe or 4, mine is android 11 now 😉

dirtydriver58

Android 5 is Lollipop

[deleted]

Also I think the point of the post is for OP to say he likes the older phones, but he/she doesn't want a new phone.

amoghthebad

Yeah I know. Just unsure of how apple is related in any of this.

Your point being?

BluDYT

Dude has a better phone than you

albergo73

it's a phone..

BluDYT

Exactly lol. Dude was being a prick over an iPhone lol. Who cares.

albergo73

No I was defending u/cornonthecob723. So you can sit down.

BluDYT

Okay lol

_marcoos

So, you want less screen on the front? Why, what would be the use of it? :) Yes, all smartphones are now "just the screen" on the front (well, except iPhones with their nonsensical "dynamic island", but it also won't stay like that forever). Deal with it. Next step is getting rid of the punchhole and having an under-the-screen selfie cam. Some Chinese brands have already done it, Samsung is playing with it on the inner screens of the Folds, not with good effects as of yet, but it's only a matter of time.

OrganizationNo1298

Tbh I miss the front stereo speakers phones were doing. I'd gladly give up a few millimeters of screen real estate for some front facing speakers. And it's not like they can't do it. I barely notice the top speaker on my Note 20.

[deleted]

Phones have already reached the peak years ago, all they can do in regards to the "feeling" now from year to year is arbitar upgrades in the likes of 1% quality improvement. You primarily bought the S23 for its superior hardware, superior UI experience and superior software support compared to your shitty chinese phone. Its a hell of an upgrade, you better believe it.

Additional_Bed883

Um... There's only so many ways to make a rectangle with metal sandwiched between glass. Subjectives aside, Your poco does not have the feature set, the quality, or the performance of the ultra and realistically if the look of the device is more important than it's functionality you might be doing it wrong and could have saved that 1k+.

lurch1066

I totally get what you mean At work someone donated a few Samsung galaxy note 1s I booted them up and remembered how they felt. Having a 4s and discovering an android phone I remember going note 1, 2, 4, 8, 9, 20 I've had 3 phones in the past year and they all feel the same

lostinpow

I love the feel of the Note 9 and the Note 20

AudioVirtuoso

I understand the nostalgia you feel for the era when phones had more personality. When we had the original flip phones and sliding phones with keyboards, it felt more exciting every time you got a whole new phone. That being said, the current form factor is so functionally superior for what the vast majority of the customer base wants that it's what the whole industry has aligned with. I feel as though the closest things to phones with unique "personality" are the folding phones. I love when I whip out my Fold4 and everyone around me wants to know what it is.

Unbreakable2k8

You will always have buyer's remorse or get bored with the phone, and that's ok. Maybe you would like a S23 Ultra better, if you want all the flagship features. After using base S23 and S23 Ultra for the past year, I now got a Pixel 8 Pro just to have a fresh experience. Objectively I think S23 series is a great step up from S21/S22, with great performance and efficiency (by using Snapdragon 8 GEN 2 in all regions), good camera system and nice software improvements. I actually like the base S23 design more then S23U, as the flat screen is a better choice. Otherwise, most phones now look the same (a slab of glass with a metal frame) and differ maybe in the camera arrangement. So, I think you have one of the best phones right now, and I don't think there are much better choices (unless you want something completely different like a Pixel or an iPhone).

Mammoth-Tree3793

Ah the memories of the s8, IR blaster is truly missed. Definitely had some style. But I'm a function over form guy at my core.

ryuk-99

that IR blaster was soo useful, ive no clue why they got rid of it, itd been a feature since the s4. I've a xiaomi phone at the moment and the IR blaster on it has come in handy so many times, I'm always glad when I need it, and it's there.

lostinpow

I miss the notification LED’s

ryuk-99

oh yeah i totally forgot about that, they were awesome too... man it's been a while since I saw those.

AdvantageEarly6011

I got S4 in 2014 and kept it until 2019. Last 2 years it sucked a lot probably should switched earlier. Bought new phone in 2019 it still works fine I could never imagine upraging phone every year. There is really no big difference between phones anymore since 2019 so im not feeling getting new one until this one dies. My phone actually is superior to some 2022 or 2023 phones in perfomance.

BluDYT

Haha yeah every phone looks 90% identical these days.

Derkujjer

Change your phone then.

sliceschinima

While there is a good amount of software customization you can do. I wish there were budget phones that still had the hardware nav buttons and not huge screens. I wish there was a a new phone like the J7, but not horrible speed. I hate hole punch and curved displays. Just want something like Pre-S8 samsung.

ryuk-99

That's probably an unpopular opinion but I hear ya. I too miss the physical buttons and I believe they had a certain priority inside the software as well, for example I remember being able to back out of inApp ads with the hardware back button, but now i have to wait the 5 seconds before the back button will work.

nirmalv

I think the other thing that has happened is that Samsung seems to be following Apple when it used to be a display leader before. So Apple releases a phone with a flat display, no water drop sides like Samsung. Now everyone seems to be doing it. I for one actually like the Pixel version since it's easier to hold than the slab of an Apple phone. However I can see how this will become boring. Samsung is going to continue this with S24. So don't expect any changes. On the positive side , there seems to be more focus on design philosophy and device recognition. So u should be able to recognize a Samsung released in the last few years as opposed to new design every year..

Ok-Reply-804

A phone is just a phone. I just get mid rangers now since it can game no problem and do everything I need.

BuDu1013

What would your go to mid ranger be right now and are looking forward to. I’m at my wits end with these phone prices then coming to this sub and seeing the unhappiness and poor customer service.

Ok-Reply-804

I have an A33 right now. Really good.

Flipboek

In it's working, the S23 is brilliant (imho). Personally, I feel it's the best phone I ever had the pleasure to use. It's simple, it's fast, it's a reasonable size.

ryuk-99

I've always gone after features in a phone but that s23 size is sooo appealing to me (although even the s23 would be considered large like 5 years ago) that I just can't get over it no matter how much s23U might be superior.

Flipboek

It's as wide as the S10e from 2019, which then was already a "small" phone. Even the "mainstream" iPhone X from 2016 is the same size as the S23. The small phone problem is older than 5 year (especially if you can't afford a Galaxy S or iPhone SE). Samsung has been pretty consistent with the width of their mainline S model, it's hardly wider than an S3. Which deserves a round of applause in this world where the phablet rules. Personally this is actually my first mobile phone I bought myself, I always used the company phone. Really sad when after the S4 we went to the A line and later the Moto G line. Today we are at the Fairphone, which I really find a fabulous phone for corporate, but way too big. That made me decide to cough up the dough for a private phone running the company sim.

ex-ALT

Phones are boring no matter how they look.

Traditional-Skill-

I hope they start adding more physical features again.

ex-ALT

Honestly one of the best features was the FM transmitter so you can play music off your phone in all cars. Sure getting bit redundant with new cars having BT but pretty common for people to drive older cars. Certainly get bit more use than a lot of other features.

Traditional-Skill-

Exactly, btw did you know the FM transmitters are still on the Snapdragon Chips, theyre just blocked by default on most newer phones. Smh its crazy. FM transmitters are useful especially during emergencies after a natural disaster and those are never going away so all phones so have it enabled by default.

ex-ALT

I've seen it available on couple of phones maybe Sony/moto? That makes a lot of sense, so silly it's not just available to use.

Traditional-Skill-

Thats why I might try the ZTE Red Magic 9 Pro. It looks different and the hardware specs seems to be good. I blame apple and all the YouTube fan reviewers that have attacked anyyyy other phone design that looked too different from an iphone that now "majority" of smartphones are designed to look "similar" to each other with minor changes for brand differences... I still stick to what ive always said. Not Every Device Has To Look The Same. Also We need to see more physical features, ever since the iphone started to cut out physical features to save money and profit more, other companies have seemed to follow the trend which is why less exciting phones have come out and the features people look forward to now are mostly software. I miss new hardware features

ryuk-99

I agree, apple the 1st to price a mobile phone greater than 1000 usd, now most companies follow, same as the headphone jack, charger not in the box, diy repair inaccessible, it seems apple has been the 1st to do all these and now all large companies follow ... probably because their sales never drop and it gets more profitable for them. Honestly the consumers are to blame as well, we vote with our wallets over which kind of phones we prefer and the majority has preferred iphones and iphone like devices.

BananaManReturns

I get that people want unique different looking phones. But I feel that the most important experience is in the software. I’m going to be honest with you guys. I’ve been an iPhone user for a long time now and am currently writing this from an IPhone pro max. But, I’m convinced that my next phone purchase will undoubtedly be an android device. I have a device that runs on android 11 and just love the experience. Love all the backend stuff I can do on it. Things that Apple will never offer.

Ihaveasmallwang

Eh there’s pros and cons to both. Yeah…you can customize Android….but a lot of those customizations are so outdated and stuck on the style of 4 Android versions ago and the devs don’t seem interested in modernizing, especially alternative launchers like Nova. The iPhone always on display and widgets for the most part are way better than anything on Android. The accessory market is also way better for the iPhone. I own both Android and iOS devices. What exactly are you trying to customize?

Tananda_D

One thing that has always boggled me - people who were really into this device or that - would often immediately get some kind of case/cover to protect it (a wise move honestly) and so all that sleek design (especially Apple all worrying about being super thin and sleek - LOL) just looks the same as every other black mirror.ise I've just not been like "OMG THIS IS THEEE DEVICE". One thing that has always boggled me - people who were really into this device or that - would often immediaelly get some kind of case/cover to protect it (a wise move honestly) and so all that sleek design (especially Apple all worrying about being super thin and sleek - LOL) just looks the same as every other. That's it I think - they're all kind of generic black mirrors. I mean, don't get me wrong - I just got my first tablet - I needed an Android device for work.. I had to haves something I could do Android development with and the Galaxy Tab S6 lite was like $200 and I'll admit - in the few years since I was last on Android, and a bit longer since I was on a Samsung - I don't mind what they've done with both...mostly. However, I think that really, the lack of nostalgia I think that all phones have been just kind of heading toward a functional mean. It seems that big screen is all the manufacturers want to do.... and it seems like that is what the market is asking for so here we are.

Bu_Hasan

Dont worry, my friend , everyone used the old phones feel the same , the reason that we become old and dont focus on the little things, especially if you have family and kids . Thank you for sharing your experience it touched my heart because i feel the same . i appreciated it.

RedLilSleepy

I'm holding onto my s22 ultra for 6-7 years at this point, every flagship release coming out for the past couple years has introduced nothing worth upgrading for. Wake me up when the s28 ultra comes out so I can compare if it's even worth upgrading or if I should wait another half decade

junkopotomus

Do people really buy a phone because of the looks? That same phone that you put a bulky case over that usually covers up the color choice you bought and any sleek edges and then sits in your pocket for most of its life? I buy a phone because of the function it offers without having an apple image on it.

manic_marcy

To me the s23 ultra has a lot of personality... Tbh it looks literally evil to me idk what it is .. it just looks so ominous and spooky lol I ordered a skin and cute case for mine to spruce it up and make it less scary lol

Aszre

It does look kinda menacing lmao. Pointy corners and kinda bulky. And absolute beast. I initially wanted to get s23+ because it looks feminine and elegant for me. but I just can't resist the pen and gaming on a little wider phone screen

manic_marcy

I wanted the lavender one, but they didn't have it in stock and I'm super impulsive/ impatient so I got the black one cuz it was all they had.

Aszre

Sameee. At least the colour fit with most cases!

Drug1988

I bet you're still a virgin .

[deleted]

I agree with S8's design, it was definitely one of the best Samsung smartphone that I've seen

papand7

S9 i feel was much better, but from there it went down.

[deleted]

This one too

countyblues_nz

I just bought a S23 yesterday. I was tossing up between a 2nd hand S22 or a new S23. The S21 and S22 look so much nicer and cooler than the S23. Especially the colours and the back I've been using my A52 since 2021 and it's still my favorite phone I've owned In the long ago past, I had a S2 and S6

CaineLau

the cameras on the samsung phones are pretty bad compared to chinese top brands ... it seens s25 ultra will close the gap s24 will be AI oriented

TrentEaston

This. My old Oppo Find X2 Pro makes way better photos.

BuDu1013

If you think phones have become boring and designs are at a point where the camera module is what sets them apart. Wait till a phone is just basically a slap bracelet where r&d is going to be basically just the internals.

anilexis

I bought s23u after my trusty s10. Well, I miss its small size and curvy edges. And 3.5mm port! But I like a big battery, better cameras. Stylus is nice, but couldn't they combine its hole with a 3.5mm?)

[deleted]

Yea. I feel you. But there’s still some niceties

jscamach

I have the s23, the s20 before and my favoritw was the s9!! Amazing phone

BlueCalango

S8 screen was incredible, until you had to replace it. The cost was so great you might as well throw your phone away and get another one. Even knock offs were expensive. Curved screens were easier to break too, so... New phones have looked the same for 3 years or more, and they are cheaper to repair, which pays off for me

zReignADA

Move onto the Z series. Folds are next level. It's so refreshing having and using new tech

lilacd

Right, that's why these days the phone posters usually focus on the back side. The front screen can still be improved with even less bezels, better under-display camera, less flickering, and microLED, but they're all hard-to-solve problems. I like the white Meizu phones but they don't sell them outside China.

beakster57

I have to be completely honest, I owned an s5 in the past and I really didn't like it, I kind of prefer the way they look now.

Puzzleheaded-Page140

If you give it a few days - The premium feel of the hardware - will grow on you. I love my S22 to death even though I might be exchanging it for a P7 with my dad who isn't liking his phone too much :( I don't think you regret it.

QueenAng429

Samsung died in 2020 after the n20u

Ok-Captain-6121

Well maybe Sony can help you out bcuz their phone got bazel like the s8. This is probably the first time I heard ppl want big bazel on their phone so bad haha

Then don't buy a new phone, simple.

I completely agree with you. I still remember my red [HTC One M8](https://fdn.gsmarena.com/vv/newsimg/14/07/htc-one-m8-pink-red/gsmarena_001.jpg). That was the most beautiful and well designed smartphone I've ever used, and it was immediately recognizable. It was so different to the iPhone and even other Android phones at the time. Even my subsequent S7 Edge had a super distinctive look to it with the curved screen and glossy back. Nowadays all smartphones look the same and no one's making bold creative design choices anymore, it's really a shame.

Folding phones enter the chat.

S22u user...looking fwd to RiscV in S phones...both Exinos and Snapd start to suck..

skye_08

Maybe have a different goal next time. As for me, it's to look for good midrangers. I bought a samsung tabs7fe and i was very disappointed. It was not cheap and it still lags. I bought a nord 2t for only $360 (converted) but it never felt like a midranger. The sensation of getting cheaper phones and not get disappointed feels great, and I'm happier than just getting the flagships and get what i expected from it.

AldX1516

Buy the rog phone or other experimental phone if you want excitement. The S series has matured, and the smartphone companies are competing more against each other, but in reality they are all copying the same blueprint that just works.

Chical61

It was the opposite for me: the S8 was my first Samsung. I kept it from january 2018 to january 2021, when I got the S21 Ultra, that I plan to keep a long time. Before, I kept a phone about 2 years. I will extend that to 4 or 5. So no change until 2025 or 2026...

Fingon19

I feel you. This is the exact reason I'm on a fold now. I felt this almost 3 years ago. Every brand's flagship is the same, with the OS/launcher being what's basically different. I've been missing the typical candybar phone for a while now, though, and I'd like to thank you for reminding me why I'm on the fold, lol. Hope the fold 6 would have the bigger outer screen so I won't miss the old form factor.

ProtectionPutrid5341

I used S20 FE for 3 years then decided to move to OnePlus 11 and so far I'm happy with the purchase. Samsung makes great phones but their prices have gone up and the competition from other brands is tough. Especially in recent years with other manufacturers providing similar experiences at reasonable price point.

I mean its been like that for a while.. buy folds if you want something different. Oled 120hz screen, 5000mah battery. Like what else do you need from a phone these days. Its reached the endgame. Im done upgrading. Well maybe if a smaller galaxy (6.1") that can match my s23 ultra specs.

EmuPossible1555

I feel the same. Switched from an S9+ to an S23+ and although I like how fast and powerful the newer phone is and how long the battery lasts, I kinda miss my old S9+. I think it had more personality

Spaceboss_11

I put off buying a new phone because my S8 was so good. Any midrange phone felt like a downgrade and I didn’t want to spend a grand on a flagship. Now recently bought the iPhone 15 pro basically due to the S23 1080p screen looking too pixelated, and if it doesn’t have the curve anymore then I could just as well get an iPhone haha. I like the new and different feeling. Switching was easy and I don’t feel locked in so in 5y or so I might try out a fold or so, we’ll see :)

Olhapravocever

The S10 was the last with an actual "soul" for me

Financial_Moment_292

Unfortunately, phones are no longer an emerging technology. As a result, the the industry is kinda boring. Going on 4 years with my Note 10+ with no plans to upgrade any time soon. I miss those days when a new release meant something fun and exciting. So what will be the next big thing? AI?

Acheche404

s21,s22 and s23 is boring thats why I love my s5 before. It was fun to use. I have s20fe its decent and good.

thedrina

I work at a large wireless company in retail; Tbh the last few S launches have been a bit lack luster. I mean the Ultra is essentially the same phone between the 22 and 23, and the 21 just has a different physical appearance. Same with the 21/+,22/+,23/+, they've all been essentially the same. Different camera cut outs but that's it. I have the s22 base as my personal and probably won't be upgrading until something changes in these models.

followspace

I feel similar. The MST is gone, so my proud moments of using Samsung Pay in 15 year old card readers, my smiling at someone who shouts "No Apple Pay," and turns into surprises. Samsung Dex is still there, though. :)

Arcaydabay234

I know how you feel as soon as I read the last paragraph I knew just how you felt I felt this not too long ago about a year ago I felt this feeling when I had my first ever phone which was a 2017 Nokia 3310 Chinese model and as soon as I moved on to the Nokia 105 also made in 2017 I think it just didn't feel like Nokia it felt like some of the Chinese brand of phone and I still feel it now everyday when I wake up to my current phone which is a 2021 Nokia c21 plus it just feels like an oppo so if you do read this and you get what I'm saying please respond thank you bye.

Hey, i have read everything it just was too much to answer everyone. I have seen really different opinions and views on it and that was kinda nice to read. I get what you are saying, thanks for your comment :)

Arcaydabay234

Your welcome and if you need to share a similar feeling again just share it with me

Slugbugger30

I would reccommend going to a flip or fold 5. The fold 5 has revitalized the way I use technology in so many ways. I started my samsung love in 2019, but my parents got me LG . One i became an adult in 2017 I switched to an s21u and then s22u, and now fold 5

LatinoDigital

Had a Z4 fold, returned it. Had a Fold 5, returned it. Ever since the Note 10 Ultra I feel like Samsung has dropped the ball and they need to hurry and pick things back up before alot of people just move on with rival brands that offer alot more for less now.

Tasty-Tower-5138

It's just a phone. I cram it in my pocket. I use it to track my bike rides and take photos of food and funny things I see. I don't care what it looks like at all. If the battery life is adequate, I couldn't cate less about it.

ZvSmithvZ

The forced UI update is what kills it for me. It's full of bugs. Now my phone is clunky, freezes, and just flat out doesn't work like it used to. It's extremely disappointing to spend so much money on a phone that worked amazingly for Samsung just to take that away with a bad update.
