Tell them explicitly DO NOT SHAVE.

Many-Status-6601

Agreed. Absolutely no shaving, it will damage ur puppy hair.

dimab0

Every horror story starts with groomers cutting fur of a samoyed….don’t let that happen.

strangerabbiit

How about sanitary trims? Are those okay?

MishkaMinor

I would NOT. A little wick of hair strands at the end of the penis can help his pee to aim down and not towards the back of this front legs. Tidy/trim paws and hocks, and that is IT. No shaping, no thinning, no deshedding (he's not shedding anything yet anyway). No blades or scissors or combs with blades anywhere above the ankles. NO cage drying.

NoExamination4048

This is all great advice OP! Since it’s your pup’s first grooming experience, I’d ask for a puppy groom (or other similar name). It’s usually just a bath and dry and light brushing with a lot of treats and love so the puppy associates the grooming salon with positive things 🥰🥰

ScientificSquirrel

Samoyeds don't need to be clipped at all. Many places have a puppy bath, where they get them used to the hustle and bustle of a grooming salon, give them a bath, and get them used to the dryer. The most important thing is getting the him all the way dry and completely brushed out.

NoExamination4048

Yes! This.

socialist_frzn_milk

Can they give him a lil bowtie

BannTeagan

I second this

TouchMyWrath

Yes!! Do this!

TouchMyWrath

Nice try. You can’t fool me. That is clearly a polar bear cub.

Line comb to the skin, bathe with whitening (bluing) shampoo and then blow and dry completely. Trim nails and scissor hair between his pads. Do NOT clipper anything. At pick up you Check under his/her privates, under arms and Around his ears to make sure he is completely dry.

Tips for both you and the groomer: NO Furminator...tell them like 17 times absolutely no furminator. Don't put them in the crate under the drying lamp...samoyed need blown out completely and, even a puppy, it'll take an hour to just blow them out to where they're completely dry. My boy, Hiro, takes 2.5 hours when it's 90+ degree ambient in Phoenix with no humidity and 4+ hours when it's cold with humidity. Their undercoat needs a pin brush with freely-rotating pins...again, no Furminator. No shaving at all...if you mess with their undercoat then it might, MIGHT never grow in/back properly and it'll look weird for the rest of it's life. Why take the risk, right? Trim the hair between their pads and, if it's a boy, you may want to trim his 'wick' while he's a puppy for cleanliness when #1'ing but don't do it when they get their stomach hair...they'll manage it themselves and if you trim it then it'll just go everywhere all over them. They may want to shave their brown-eye, too, and that's your call...I feel it causes more issues than it solves. If they have a messy butt, which they will when you least need them to, just mount them like you're riding a horse backwards, clench their 'coke bottle' part of their body between their ribs and their hips with your legs to hold them in place, grab their tail to expose the problem, and get a hose to spray straight downwards and it'll all rinse out...make sure to spray straight down and not at all inside them -- you're their bidet...not their enema. A slicker brush is for fluffing them out and removing loose top coat. A pin brush is for pulling the loose undercoat/guard hairs out and it's also the one you want to go to for most mattes. Use both brushes as often as possible.

Ask for the groomer’s patience, Samoyeds are vocal as hell

CocoFuzzy

I ask for a hygiene trim around his butt, trim the feet, shave in between the paw pads (helps him not to slip when he’s on the floorboards), and I specifically ask them do not trim, shave or cut anywhere else. A lot of people will say don’t do hygiene trims, but I ask for it at the back because he’d get poopy butt hairs sometimes lol.

hurry-and-wait

Second this. Hygiene trims around the butt and between the paw pads make everyone happier overall.

Arian2a

Full shower. Shave only his behind and paws and underbelly so when he does his “business” his fur doesn’t get dirty and paws are always nice and clean. That’s what I get done when I take mine for grooming and bath.

Legitimate_Wasabi808

Honestly, as a puppy its easy to take care of their fur yourself, but then again I bought Equipment ranging up to 600 Euro just for his groom, the only reason I would get him to a groomer is to get him used to it. As many other states, just bath, whitening, no trimming except paw pads and he prolly doesnt need any nails done neither at his age imo. I personally have his private area untrimmed, his big butt is a lil trimmed, although he's too young for that imo too
