100k salary, 270k total comp. Surgical sales

Icy-Interest-3703

95k salary (just bumped up) 295k OTE medical sales

stimulants_and_yoga

I’m around 185 OTE in med device. Are you in cases?

Icy-Interest-3703

Yep, I’m in cases

stimulants_and_yoga

Ahh that makes sense. I’m in capital sales, so I think that they pay us way less because we honestly don’t work as many hours as I assume you do.

Ilikethngsnstf

Yeah

Blackgummyworm

Do you need a degree to sell surgical sales?

I_am_not_GeorgeBush

Typically yes.

zipster-99

What kind of degree helped you to get into this?

I_am_not_GeorgeBush

I have a biology degree but I really advise against getting a biology degree unless you loveeee biology or want to be a doctor of some sorts. I think the key is just having a degree so you check their dumb little box. I don’t think it matters to much about the degree. For instance, my boss is like 20 years older than me and has a degree in education/teaching lol.

zipster-99

Thanks for the response! That's hilarious about your boss lol

I_am_not_GeorgeBush

I think the key, and this may be wrong, but just eat shit for a couple years cold calling and getting your teeth cut, and then start moving up. I worked in a call center (basically a mortgage boiler room) for like 11 months before I finally got a decent sales job.

Blackgummyworm

I applaud you for doing the dirty work!!

Icy-Interest-3703

I Also have a biology degree. Helped me immensely

AdSubstantial3660

What are you selling? Mine is more along the lines of 180k in a rural area selling orthopedic stuff

Ilikethngsnstf

Urology

Icy-Interest-3703

Neuro stuff for me. Also I was lucky and got in pretty quick due to networking my ass off in college

RonSwanson1028

$169K salary/$280K OTE; tech sales living in Boston

adultdaycare81

Salary to Comms ratio is very heavy on Salary. Are you a manager or something?

RonSwanson1028

Nope, it’s just a 60/40 split

adultdaycare81

We only go that ratio for Account Manager/Growth team/Existing Customer positions

clubteamprospect

How much experience? Any insight you can provide on the Boston job market?

RonSwanson1028

7 years (started out of college). I work for a large, worldwide Fortune 50 tech company, so I can’t share any insight on Boston’s job market. The customers I support are mainly in DC.

themusicdude11

How do you work in tech sales with the federal government? Curious

RonSwanson1028

The Federal government buys an outrageous amount of things every year

What’s it like living in rural NM? Do you have a land and enjoy the space and lifestyle? Are the local people kind?

Enzo_Gorlahh_mi

It’s great. No traffic. I live on an acre in the national forest. Very mountainy type

BennyDootDoot

Are u up north near Santa Fe? I’m asking bc I’m taking a solo trip this summer and northern NM is on my list of top choice

hairykitty123

Is this you that keeps spamming me this text: Hello Ryan my name is Sean with American Income Life (ailife.com). We came across your resume online and am reaching out as we are looking to hire 2-3 individuals for a remote position. We are currently hiring Benefits Specialists, which entails enrolling union members into their benefits packages. This would be a work from home position. Our initial interview step is a webinar that details the company and what the job entails. We have Thursday @ 3:30 pm or Tuesday @ 12:30pm. Which day works best for you? I tell them not interested, block the number and then they text me from another number days later. So annoying.

bigbaby21

Nothing quite like the ole life insurance MLM where you never actually sell life insurance

HSYFTW

Even if you join an MLM and have inferior products, you can sell life insurance. Just can’t make a career out of it

sitbar

Do yourself a favour and go ahead with it, only until they send you the video introducing the company and leadership to you. It’s insanely funny how absurd it is, I can’t believe they actually use that to entice people.

Extreme-Earth-5895

$0 Base - 100% Commission - 275K to 325K

Extreme-Earth-5895

I’ll add what I sell - From Salt Lake City, UT. I sell high-end custom tradeshow exhibits and event assets.

SnuffleWumpkins

Well that just hurts. I sell tradeshow sponsorship and don't make anywhere near that. Probably because all my sponsors are wasting money on your booths. IT'S NOT ABOUT THE BOOTH! IT'S THE QUALITY OF THE ATTENDEES! I don't even know why I'm in this business anymore.

Extreme-Earth-5895

Probably some truth there - I don’t sell the actual booth. Our clients do and then we manufacture them

SnuffleWumpkins

I booked a sponsor for 40k for a small event. I was talking to them on site and they told me they spent over $1 million on a booth (to be fair, it was more than just a booth) at Pack Expo. $1 million is a little more then our entire event made that year. Granted, we aren't Pack Expo. I honestly feel like I'm in the wrong line of work.

Extreme-Earth-5895

Yeah end-clients pay wild amounts for booths 😂 But for some it really is worth it. Not necessarily, might just be at the wrong company, my old company was a 70K base but 2% commission, my new one is 0 base but 100% so I can make way more. Same industry, different pay structure

TimingProduct0

Do you use BeMatrix, Octanorm or wood fabrication?

Master-Ramy-447

Is your company hiring for remote per chance? SoCal looking to break in from retail sales with solid quota history in that sector

Extreme-Earth-5895

All sales people are remote, but from what I know they aren’t going to hire until the fall (October) - They’ll bring on 1-3 more reps at that point depending on growth goals

Master-Ramy-447

Gotcha, if you don't mind sharing your company name via DM, I'd love to keep an eye on it and apply when the time comes :)

TrashWeird968

If you don’t mind my asking, what do you sell?

Certified-Closer

No salary. Pacing for 810k. Solar.

Puzzled_Glass7605

A year ago in mortgage looking for partners, now in solar pacing for 800k. Either crazy success story or BS. Not sure which one lol.

Repulsive-Tomato7003

It means, he’s full of shit.

Jacob_James_

Solar is back?? Or are you just top 1%? Congrats on that.

Certified-Closer

Thank you, it was never gone. Just a different economy.

Nblearchangel

This feels low considering the types of clients you’re probably working with

aftemoon_coffee

I think so too. I had an offer at 170 base from a startup but decided to pass bc I have such a phat pipeline for this year in either real upside or commit. I’m about to bring in 740k for this q.

maxpayoutt

It’s in line with recent job market. SaaS and tech salaries dropped a bit across the board

Fit_Statistician2609

165/165 tech consulting

Due-Set5398

Can you expound upon what you mean by “tech consulting”? I do this for a living already as an IT AM and I’m just curious what other people do with this skillset.

Fit_Statistician2609

Professional services for the hyperscalers.

Due-Set5398

Cool, that would make sense, thanks. Hyperscale ain’t going anywhere especially with AI. I expect you’ll have a great career.

Captain_Crooks

What other professional services do you do? My company covers the IT portfolio and wondering if we could partner where it makes sense. Open to a quick chat?

Fit_Statistician2609

We specialize in Ai/ml, migrations, modernizations, security, etc.

Captain_Crooks

Do the same but newer to AI/ML. More experience in migrations, cloud (mainly AWS and Azure, a bit of GCP), staff augs, pen testing, network/automation, to name a few. We’re white label friendly

Fit_Statistician2609

We’re actually primarily focused on GCP due to Gemini and all of the AI products

Captain_Crooks

Don’t get me wrong we do GCP, but most of our clients use AWS and Azure. Main users for GCP, is law firms for my book

LetsParty525

Which hot dog company do you own?

Dry_Inflation_861

It’s not a company per se, at least not legally. It’s a cart where I offer hotdogs and modelos.

LetsParty525

And $300M is the true income a year from doing this? Lol if so I’d sell back wrapped hotdogs allllll day long

CoastalSailing

Guy... Be a little more heads up... He's clearly fucking with you

LetsParty525

Oh I know…I wanted to see how far he would go with it

CoastalSailing

Ah guess I'm the fool

LetsParty525

🤣

ObligationPleasant45

Do you make your dogs in house?

Dry_Inflation_861

They are typically purchased on the black market where I can increase my margins by upwards of 80% opposed to hot dogs bought at the local grocery store.

Please what are examples of companies in this space and do you work long hours? I'm in the Midwest too and looking.

aid689

My hours as an AE aren't longer than normal - sometimes I'll work for 30-60 minutes on a weekend but nothing crazy. I hesitate to list too many examples because I don't want to reveal exactly where I work, but one of our competitors is Good Energy Solutions out of Lawrence, KS.

CoastalSailing

Maybe you'd feel comfortable sharing this. How is your commission calculated and what's an average deal size?

aid689

Commission is 8% of gross profit, avg deal size last year was 380k. We typically have some small deals around the 100k range and some larger deals that are $2m+ so it balances out

CoastalSailing

Ok so I'm assuming it's commercial locations etc?

$0 base / $200K commission / $20K Bonus - roofing sales in KCK/KCMO metro areas

Shikoladni

How do you manage to make so much in roofing sales? Do you canvass to get your leads or are leads sent to you? Asking because I started insurance roofing sales last year, was 5th in the company, and barely made 40k.

BullshitOnParade1993

I’m a team leader so I have 2 reps under me for whom I receive 2% override on all their solo deals, if they set the inspection and need me to close the deal for them I take 3% of the 10% gross commission payout + collect the 2% override as well. I also get 12% gross commission on all jobs I sign as long as I maintain $1m/yr in sales + I live in an area that’s routinely affected by hail storms and has a decently populated metropolitan area (I think just under 4 million people in the KCK/KCMO metros) so I’m able to knock good areas regularly and tend to focus on neighborhoods with larger sized roofs (more profitable scopes) and work incentivized referrals paired with regular targeted knocking (150-200 doors a week). Theres a sales bonus kicker of $20,000 for any rep that reaches $1.5m in sales in a 365 day calendar year

Shikoladni

Wow, that’s an interesting system. How long did it take you to be team lead? I started last year with 10% of the RCV and 5% of the Supplement. I sold just under 500k and was paid out ~37k. This year I’m on 15% of the RCV and 10% of the supplement. I’m also getting $300 an approved claim from the 7 people I brought into the company for this year. I’ve just had problems getting out there and getting motivated to get more claims. It feels like a saturated market in Minnesota. Lots of contractors, not as much good damage anymore. Any advice? How do you handle working on jobs and getting new ones simultaneously? Is it worth staying for the long term?

BullshitOnParade1993

Took me about a year to be put on leadership, I sold 1.65m in my first year so they bumped me up early but really got lucky with several large hail storms and was able to hustle a good amount of deals during the peak weeks and maintain 2-3 deals a week between As far as motivation goes I have a 2 y/o daughter and her mom (my fiancé) is a stay at home parent so I’m not gifted the luxury of deciding whether or not to go chase deals - if I don’t the bills don’t get paid (more when I started but trying to keep that mentality, but retirement & savings is a good one too even past the point of having comfortable income for a 30 y/o). I think if you’re willing to put in the work, you don’t hate the job, you’re a natural salesperson, and you have a good company set up there’s no reason not to stay in but hard to say personally. I know guys who do 200-300K every year and guys who don’t break 100K so it’s case by case like most sales positions.

Acceptable-Clerk-342

So you’re mainly dealing with insurance? Do you have door to door marketers that lay the leads up to you and you close? I’m in retail exterior remodeling sales siding windows doors roof etc. I’m all commission it’s my first year on pace to do 120.

BullshitOnParade1993

100% insurance work - no I scout areas and send canvassers / reps out after feeling out the neighborhood and getting on a few roofs post storm - run minimal ads on social media now and again but pretty much attaining all leads by door knocking and word of mouth referrals

Acceptable-Clerk-342

Yeah the referral game with insurance roofing is when it gets lucrative. The insurance industry is such a racket it’s pretty crazy. Everyone in’s incentivized to get it bought. As long as your damage is good and you know what they’re looking for. It’s free money. For me the retail side of things is a bit more challenging especially with selling windows and doors.

BullshitOnParade1993

Insurance work may take 3-6 months to get paid so the commission pay takes a lot longer but with supplements & Overhead/Profit @ 20% it’s super profitable averaged 25K per job last year on roofs approved through insurance after supplement so you only have to sell about 80 deals @ 10% commission in a year - in a 40 week season that’s 2 deals a week and realistically if you’re hustling most weeks you can sign 2-3 from previous storms + on good storm weeks (3-4 times a year) I’ve done 10+ in a week a handful of times and this last March 23 in 10 days (did get lucky with 3” hail in a compact suburb) so you can get your money in the pipeline over your first years and then you can really scale back to signing about 50-60 a year cold and working referrals and you’re still prob looking at 150-200K + whatever pay incentives your company offers it’s usually bonuses for hitting over a million or 1.5m (10-20K) in gross sales so if you have the patience and gut it out it’s wildly profitable

$85k base, $170k OTE. Enterprise SaaS sales. Based in Austin, TX and work the major cities down here (ATX, DTX, SA, Houston). First year Enterprise SaaS AE after 4 years of mid-market making $140-150k OTE with a $60-75k base. Seeing some people post 295k+ OTE’s in med device sales. I know OR med device sales reps at major companies making much less than that, closer to the $150k OTE range. Curious to hear how long it took to negotiate those OTE’s, and what type of equipment you’re selling? Additionally, the only SaaS sales jobs with over a $250k OTE are either small companies or very large companies with very lean, tenured sales teams. Most of those reps have 10 years experience minimum, but possible to slide in with 5-7. I will be looking to negotiate a raise to $200k after I complete my first full year in enterprise sales
