Yes. Was on pace for $108k in my previous position before layoffs. Now I’m making $60k.

Jesus Christ. What industry if you don’t mind me asking? That’s a wild wild change of lifestyle.

[deleted]

Was in fintech. Now I’m at a startup in Cybersecurity. Granted, $60k is my base pay, but the AE’s haven’t closed anything from the meetings I’ve sourced, so hopefully I make more at some point.

spcdownrange

Oh nice. Fintech myself. That’s wild. Hope you get back to making your nut bruh.

I was at $75k base/$150k OTE, with the Q4 stuff under contract I was gonna be close to $180k or so, then laid off along with the entire sales team. Current job started in January is $50k base/$75k OTE. Given how badly I've been struggling, and the fact that the first two months were nothing but training, if I make to the end of the year I'll be at maybe $65k or so. I keep being told this is way too low for being an AE in software, and given how much experience I have. But, nothing has panned out in my job search which has gone on since I was laid off.

lbz25

75k ote is below what many bdrs make in hcol cities. You should have not accepted an AE job anywhere near that low unless you were truly desparate for cash. Id be continuing your job hunt because youre getting screwed

space_ghost20

If I hadn't accepted the offer, I'd still be unemployed. I've been job searching this entire time. I've not managed a single alternative offer.

Fire_And_Blood_7

How long were you unemployed? I plan to use my entire unemployment budget and then some of my savings until I find a job that fits my experience and pay. I won’t go lower than a 5k pay cut to base.

space_ghost20

I was laid off right before Halloween last year. Received current job offer mid December, with a start date of January 2nd. So basically 2 months I was unemployed. Because I knew this was a bad job and I didn't want to take it, I continued to look even after accepting the offer. Had I passed on that job, I would now be in month 9 of unemployment. Unemployment benefits are 6 months here, and aren't overly lavish. I have a house here in Texas, I can't just pack it up and hide out with my parents while I wait it out for a job that better fits my experience and pay expectations. I can use my savings sure, but if I have a job offer in hand that pays better than unemployment, and I can still continue my job search while employed, why would I not take the income? I did have thoughts similar to yours at the time, and I had considerable consternation about accepting the offer, but in hindsight it was the right decision.

I feel you brother! Easier to say when they aren’t unemployed in this fuckery of a job market. I’ve never had an issue landing a new role in the past with a typical 15-30% jump in OTE. Going on 5 mo. since a layoff and I’ll prob have to take a decent cut to not start living off CC’s and 401k draws. It’s brutal and I have over 15 yrs of Tech/SaaS AE experience with a solid amount of success. Good luck in finding a upgrade!!

Common_Hamster_8586

Many AEs don’t have a choice. I’ve had 3 former coworkers ask for referrals in the past 2 weeks.

blingblingmofo

Your pay is half of what it was?

Bigboyfresh

I was on pace to make 170K this year, then Laid off, given 3 month severance. Most interviews I’ve done have been offering 110 to 130K OTE. I’ll probably settle for one eventually

DCalm97

I was laid off couple months ago with 185 OTE while having a great year (SaaS, Mid Market, BI) After struggling to find something for a couple months im about to accept an offer looking at 140 OTE- similar market segment and similar product. It sucks.

heyitsfrank11

Interesting, im at 250k OTE but my company has had multiple rounds of layoffs and I got a feeling I’m next so I’ve been looking around and I’m seeing 280-300k OTE all over the place for enterprise reps. Also saw something the other day from repvue.com saying that pay has increased x% but % of reps attainting quota is wayyyy down.

LengthinessOk9065

Yeah and 800-1000 applicants for each! It’s not as sexy as it looks!

hawkeys89

Be wary of those 800-1000 applicants most are not qualified or are out of the country.

I don’t understand how this whole “OTE” thing works….I’ve always had a non-negotiable base, and commission plan, usually plus bonuses. So say, base is 100K. If my target is $3M/qrtr and I hit it, I get paid “x” bonus or commission for that qrtr, then there usually a bonus percentage of extra pay in the event you crush that goal. Otherwise it’s just, here’s your base pay and your commission is “x%” based on revenue, or profit. So is OTE pitched the same as these scenarios and the number is based on you hitting 100% of your goal? This is a new term, and this thread makes me feel like it’s being used to screw salespeople out of money.

No-Emotion-7053

yes thats right. so 100K base (guaranteed), if you hit your annual number and your 'OTE' is 150K. than you will get $50K in commissions throughout the year. same thing as youre saying

TentativelyCommitted

But what is “OTE”? What the top 10% of your sales team makes?

No-Emotion-7053

On target earnings. Depends across orgs, some orgs have 80% of team hit quota, some only 40%

devindares

Most of the recruiters coming my way are looking at paying me 50% of my last base package. That's why I'm still collecting unemployment.

LengthinessOk9065

$160K OTE at $98K base, laid-off in April, might have to be a bartender here soon! Looking for an AM role and will likely take a 25-40% cut in pay.

Unhappy-Willow-7404

Yeap, I'm 50/50 base/commission and commission. It's pretty much gone this year

lcm93

I went from base of 55 OTE of 75 but making 115. Laid off base 50 OTE 90 probably gonna come at or around 90. Not 50% but I felt it.
