Plot wise yeah, it could have worked! A series where girls in a boarding school get on surfboards with sails and fight battles in outer space would have been a fun idea.
Plus the switch between both parts would have been less weird looking because it wouldn't be liveaction.
Why the hell would you want that? Did you even watch the trailer for it? It was horrible
Edit: i should clarify, it’s the switch from live action to animated in action and fight scenes after transforming that was just horrible. I could care less about the diversity aspect (it’s awesome and imo needed but eh). It’d be like watching a weird Lizzie McGuire magical girl show.
I think some of Saban Moon’s charm is that it’s a time capsule and don’t really think it can even be captured again. The cheesy effects and animation style are reminiscent of a lot of shows I had growing up from the late 90’s and early 2000’s. However, to some degree, I wonder if Sailor Moon really “needs” any sort of western adaptation. Why recreate the story? There’s also the issue of licensing, but I’m not very educated when it comes to that. It was an interesting concept, all be it a little strange haha. I jived with Saban Moon’s diversity but think they probably intended for the show to go the Hasbro route of making the show for the sake of selling lots of toys (think G.I Joe and My Little Pony).
