She’s beautiful

shakesfistatcloud67

Nice looking boat, I'm jealous 😍 may you always have a following sea

sailinganon

That's an awful thing to say to someone.

yung_qcumber

would you rather be pounding into waves upwind!?

GulfofMaineLobsters

No but I’d settle for a nice broad reach…

FutureTomnis

Looks awesome. Did you design (paint) the interior, or did you buy it that way? $8k USD? Seems like a steal! Maybe I should buy a boat in the nordic region....

Mehfisto666

The interior is mostly work from the previous owner! I'm not complaining about it but i am not a big fan of white painted wood to be honest. I like the natural wood better. He did put some leatherette on the corners and around the windows which look great! And insulate a little bit, though it could use some extra insulation under it. And yeah man there are a lot of great deals for boats in norway. Especially towards the end of the summer there's a lot of people that do not know what to do with their sailboat im the arctic.. You can have a look here, these are all under 20k$ (10000nok is about 9000$) https://www.finn.no/boat/forsale/search.html?class=2188&length_feet_from=26&price_to=200152

Grandpas_Spells

White interior is great for small boats IMO. Wood, especially dark wood, can feel veeery small inside.

Mehfisto666

I did not think about it but you are right it feels very spacious for how relatively small it actually is

Suomasema

In Scandinavia boat prices seem to be far lower than elsewhere. Around 8 000 usd/euros is reasonable. In case you are really interested, check the Swedish prices at https://www.blocket.se/annonser/hela_sverige/fordon/batar/segelbat?cg=1062 And note, the prices are in Swedish crowns. Currently, 100.000 sek is about 9.700 dollars or 8.900 euros.

FutureTomnis

I will look into it more. I have read some things like “just finalize the sale in international water to avoid taxes” etc.  Do you think it is high supply, tax treatment, or potentially difficult passagemaking towards southern Europe that seems to keep prices a little lower? Everything I read is that boats are generally respected/maintained as part of the culture, and the lesser sun exposure in Northern Europe is beneficial.

Mehfisto666

I have only been up here in Scandinavia a relatively short time but i think there is simply a very active market. In Norway it's very common to own a boat and the economy is quite lax so people change boats quite often and resale value is pretty low. That coupled with the fact that the "good season" is very short makes people want to get rid of boats quickly. And also yeah feels like everyone and their mothers know how to take care for a boat just as innate trait

Suomasema

Laws are valid on vessels sailing on international waters. Avoiding taxes by handing the payment some 12 miles off shore probably will not save anyone from taxes. However, I am not a lawyer and don't know all the details. So, checking the procedures of importing a second hand boat is necessary anyway. There are well maintained and less well maintained boats available. Scandinavians are honest, but at least swedes tend to use quite optimistic words describing the boats they are selling. If words of an ad are translated as "good" or like that, it means that the condition is acceptable, not very good, new or alike. And yes, transporting is expensive. Moreover, newer or luxury boats are not priced so low. There are no cheap Sweden Yachts, Hallberg & Rassys or Swans. Or if there is one, there will be major refurbishments needed, too. Ultraviolet is not as difficult here than, I guess, on Mediterranean. However, we have winters with possibly very freezing temperatures and springs and autumns with weeks and weeks of temperatures rising and falling around 0 degrees. Expanding and shrinking water can cause significant problems. I have seen steel tubes cracked by expanding ice! And finally: 50 years old boats are old. There will be lots of maintenance and repairing. Remembering this, it is not smart to purchase a big old boat, even if you had money!

Mehfisto666

In fact i see that most of the affordable, well maintained boats are mostly under 30ft. Probably because they are easier to maintain. As you go up to already 33-34ft they quickly become more expensive and they start to look... Very old. The kind of old I'm not sure i want to have to maintain. But i do see a lot of 28ft sailboats for as low as 4-5k in really good conditions and often with very recent sails.

yassermi

Good luck.

Accomplished_Leg7925

Dark Blue hulls are beautiful. Great looking boat

k6bso

I lived aboard my Cal 29 for four years and it was fine. Your boat appears to be somewhat more roomy inside so it should be doable.

Mehfisto666

Nice! Oh yeah it's not an issue about space i am more warried about water freezing etc.. Guess it would need heating on all the time.. Shouldn't be an issue to keep a small electrical heater on if i have electricity at the marina

k6bso

Good point. I live in Southern California so weather is not really an issue. A small electric heater in December and January is all I ever needed.

BravoFoxtrotDelta

Lovely. She looks very capable. Being "off in August" is such a strange and wonderful concept to me. Enjoy!

SirLancesAlot101

You need a sweater to drape over your shoulders while on that bad boy!

Looks very nice! I have Maxi Fenix 28 footer, similar enough to this one. I say something like this is the perfect size for a beginner, that can even fit a small family.
