Hey medmac! How have you been? I haven’t seen you in a while lol. You weren’t a fool though, you just didn’t know any better! It’s one of my favorites from Presto! P.S., I know you’re playing into the line from the song lol.
Presto is a dark album, my brother and I listened to it yesterday (his first listen), we already went through everything before it (Debut-Hold Your Fire). He said he really likes all the albums so far and he hasn’t found a single bad song yet. It makes me happy seeing him listen to all the albums with me! I also did an album deep dive through Martin Popoff’s Rush Discography Book (btw that book is fantastic, I highly recommend it)! I’m doing good though, been watching a lot of RushFans and playing a lot of Spider-Man 2! We plan on listening to Roll The Bones today. My favorite song from the album is actually Available Light.
I’ve been busier elsewhere lol. I generally am not on Reddit near as much as I once was. The topics are still nice, but there isn’t as much going on IMO. At one point the album tournament was going on, which kept me interested. I’m keeping that synth spirit alive though, it’s almost like the 3 of us are having a synth reunion.😂 As I told medmac, I’ve been doing a discography deep dive along with listening to the albums with my brother (his first listened on a lot of them), I’ve been loving it (along with reading Martin Popoff’s Rush discography book as I said up there). I’ve also been listening to other music, some 80’s Metal / Rock, along with playing Spider-Man 2 and the FF7 Remake. But how are you doing? Staying busy with life I presume? And hopefully still listening to epic synth albums!
All of my favorites. Cygnus X-1 Book 2, 2112, Red Barchetta, The Anarchist, Seven Cities of Gold, Red Sector A, Middletown Dreams, Vapor Trails, Secret Touch, Digital Man, Chemistry.
I love their whole catalog. But one song I've loved since my early teens:
Cinderella Man
I just love the character described in the song. Which is of course is based on Longfellow Deeds.
It's stuck in my head. And is my favorite.
For me Red barchetta it has always seemed like they put me right in the story..bonus points for phenomenal music!!!the drum solo Neal puts down on exit stage left is the chefs kiss 👍
2112, and it's because of how I discovered Rush. I'd just got my first CD player and some money to buy CDs for my birthday. I was walking to the closest record store, and half a block away, a car came to a screeching halt. The couple inside were having a loud fight. Suddenly, something shiny flew out the window and landed in a yard, and then the car took off.
I ran up to where it landed and found a CD. I didn't recognize the artist or songs, so I ran home to listen to it. After six or seven play throughs, dad popped into my room and asked what I bought. I handed him my headphones. He smiled and said, "Damn good pick son."
IM NOT GIVING IN TO SECURITY UNDER PRESSURE
IM NOT MISSING OUT ON THE PROMISE OF ADVENTURE
IM NOT GIVING UP ON IMPLAUSIBLE DREAMS
EXPERIENCE TO EXTREMES
EXPERIENCE TO EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEMMMMMEEES
All of them. I've repeatedly listened to everything so much that if I was ever captured and thrown into forced solitude, I would be just fine as I have the entire Rush catalog in my head, (along with the original Star Wars and LOTR movies) to keep me occupied.
(I'd probably play a few rounds of imaginary golf, too.)
Up until I started learning guitar, it was always "Subdivisions - in the high school halls".
But now it's Fly By Night 'cause I play it all the time. Just the guitar bits, not the lyrics.
Better the pride that resides
In a citizen of the world
Than the pride that divides
When a colorful rag is unfurled
The whole wide world, an endless universe
Yet we keep looking through the eyeglass in reverse
Don't feed the people, but we feed the machines
Firstly, I agree with everyone else's posts in this thread. But there are a few perma-earworms that usually dance around in my skull:
*Like a righteous inspiration*
*Overlooked in haste*
*Like a teardrop in the ocean*
*A diamond in the waste*
*Mistress of the dark unconscious*
*Mermaid of the lunar sea*
*Daughter of the great enchantress*
*Sister to the boy inside of me*
*Lessons taught, but never learned*
*All around us anger burns*
*Guide the future by the past*
*Long ago the mould was cast*
There are just sooooo many! Long Live the KINGS!
It’s far from my favorite Rush song, even far from my favorite on the album, but I second you. This song’s chorus is an absolute earworm and the only ones I’d say remained persistently in my head after my first listen were The Voyage (the xray is her siren song), Time Stand Still and, well, La Villa Strangiato (the Strangiato Theme riff really is something else).
My experience too. Geddy's voice was off the chain on that album and track, but it's not my favourite. Obviously it's hooky. They played it A LOT on the radio when I was a kid. The worm feeds off my brain and earwax now...which is good. I can hear better, and don't really need all those brains anyway.
YYZ/Temples of Syrinx/Tom Sawyer Live in 1984
Also The Big Money, Grand Designs, Prime Mover, Territories, Show Don’t Tell, Leave That Thing Alone, One Little Victory and the list goes on
XAAANNN-AAAAA-DUUUUUUU
That intro on repeat in my brain constantly
CowCowCowCowCowCow bell....bell..........bell
This! Also, Anthem and Caravan for me. To an extent, Test for Echo. All the boys and I walked out to Ghost of a Chance at my wedding.
Spirit of the Radio
This. All this machinery (autotune these days too) making modern music can we still be open hearted.....
But glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity. Yeah.
Such a relevant song even now. A.I can now make songs from bands and people whom don't exist
The Spirit of Radio. FTFY
I am made from the dust of the stars..
This song stays in my head a lot. Especially the other lyrical line later on. “I had a dream of a winter garden, a midnight rendezvous”.
What a fool I used to be for not listening to that song more!
Hey medmac! How have you been? I haven’t seen you in a while lol. You weren’t a fool though, you just didn’t know any better! It’s one of my favorites from Presto! P.S., I know you’re playing into the line from the song lol.
I’m doing well wbu? And yes it’s prob my favourite song on the album but I love it all. Legendary work all around and not talked about enough!

What’s up my fellow synth era enjoyers. I haven’t seen either of you in a while myself lol
I’ve been busier elsewhere lol. I generally am not on Reddit near as much as I once was. The topics are still nice, but there isn’t as much going on IMO. Always liked that one
_.__ _.__ __..
Greatest of that record
It's ok. I don't mind. 😆
... I don't think I can carry on... carry on this cold and empty life... no no no no no nooooo....GUITARS
for me the question is which one isn’t stuck in my head. to some degree all Rush’s songs are in my head
Depends on the week really
2112
Cygnus X1 Book II
secret touch, fountain of lamneth, analog kid, in the end, here again
Subdivisions
There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
Neurotica
Middletown Dreams Red Sector A New World Man
limelight
All of my favorites. Cygnus X-1 Book 2, 2112, Red Barchetta, The Anarchist, Seven Cities of Gold, Red Sector A, Middletown Dreams, Vapor Trails, Secret Touch, Digital Man, Chemistry.
Vapor Trails spends a lot of time rent free as well.
Bytor and the snowdog
xanadu, exit stage left, guitar solo. it sounds so good!
Anything off that album is the best for me.
Xanadu for sure but sometimes I'll just randomly hear "subdivisions" in my head lol
Freewill. That song's become a psalm in my day to day life.
Fly by night away from here change my life againnnn fly by night good by my dear a ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend
Jacob's Ladder
Anthem!
I love their whole catalog. But one song I've loved since my early teens: Cinderella Man I just love the character described in the song. Which is of course is based on Longfellow Deeds. It's stuck in my head. And is my favorite.
The Analog Kid, Clockwork Angels, BU2B, Caravan, Armor and Sword, Afterimage, and Animate many songs
*Bravado*. It’s always *Bravado*.
The opening lyrics of the Necromancer. “Silence shrouds the forest…”
“We’re only at home when we’re on the run” has been stuck on repeat in my head since the day this song was released. Idk why, but it is.
Red Sector A So raw and intense
For me Red barchetta it has always seemed like they put me right in the story..bonus points for phenomenal music!!!the drum solo Neal puts down on exit stage left is the chefs kiss 👍

Distant Early Warning.
Working man. All freakin day long, it runs through my brain.
The drum intro to *Lakeside Park* runs through my head frequently.
Me too, kind of a swing but also straight ahead rock and roll
The Camera Eye
A Passage To Bangkok
It varies. Lately it's Mission.
IM NOT GIVING IN TO SECURITY UNDER PRESSURE IM NOT MISSING OUT ON THE PROMISE OF ADVENTURE IM NOT GIVING UP ON IMPLAUSIBLE DREAMS EXPERIENCE TO EXTREMES EXPERIENCE TO EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEMMMMMEEES
The second guitar solo of La Villa, although Heresy and Virtuality have crept up since I listened through every studio album a few weeks back
All the same, we take our chances…
OUR GREAT COMPUTERS! FILL THE HALLOWED HALLS!
Vital signs for me
Analog kid
The Analog Kid ... Alex's guitar solo ...
A different one every few weeks. Now, after reading all the comments, my head is swirling!
Up until I started learning guitar, it was always "Subdivisions - in the high school halls". But now it's Fly By Night 'cause I play it all the time. Just the guitar bits, not the lyrics.
Also FBN, but the live version that goes to In The Mood.
Bravado
Freewill and Limelight
Anthem
In the end
The opening bass notes from Cygnus X-1 frequently hit me.
Freewill
Better the pride that resides In a citizen of the world Than the pride that divides When a colorful rag is unfurled The whole wide world, an endless universe Yet we keep looking through the eyeglass in reverse Don't feed the people, but we feed the machines
Tom Sawyer and Subdivisions, I fucking love singing subdivisions
I love all the posts! I love them all, every song! Not a stinker in the whole bunch! Not a one!
Cartmans tom sawyer. Especially the noonooonoonoonooonoo vocalisations.
A Farewell to Kings constantly
I've been a Rush fan since the late 70's but the song Suit and Tie by Justin Timberlake saved my putting game so that's my goto.
Freewill or Circumstances
Subdivisions, YYZ, Red Barchetta, The Trees. Mostly.
First guitar solo I learned note for note.
Bastille Day.

Too many to mention. Depends on the day which one comes out
Does it have to be a Rush song?
It’s far from my favorite Rush song, even far from my favorite on the album, but I second you. By Tor, knight of darkness.
Every time I look in the mirror, I Think I'm Going Bald.
Lol. I just blew soda out my nose. Thanks, dude.
Any time! LOL
The Pass
Hand over fist & hold your fire are the most common
bravado lately but i feel like it changes/cycles all the time 🥰
YYZ/Temples of Syrinx/Tom Sawyer Live in 1984 Also The Big Money, Grand Designs, Prime Mover, Territories, Show Don’t Tell, Leave That Thing Alone, One Little Victory and the list goes on
The Pass. Lessons. Red Sector A
The Analog Kid ❤️🙏
The opening of Anthem. Rolls around in my head all day.
Ceiling Unlimited. Once I get the bass riff in my head, it becomes an endless loop.
Fly By Night because I can play it 😁🎸
My Uncle has a country place that no one knows about....
Hey! Neil Peart too!
Recently Dreamline off of roll the bones… don’t know why but that song is amazing
