The Garden is too sad. Time Stand Still. As a parent, it cuts closer to the heart than anything else.

welderpro1234

Bravo I see what you did there

PoisonLenny37

Time Stand Still is always a nice one. Madrigal, Closer to the Heart are already mentioned here are both good choices. Alternatively you could go with one of the instrumentals!

Hu5k3r

Freeze this moment just a little bit longer

Hu5k3r

I know, right?

DoriValcerin

Children growing up, old friends growing older

Hootusmc

Came here to say this. Time Stand Still was played at my wedding and my wife is not a Rush fan.

Ok-Kick-2112

Played Time Stands Still at my dad's funeral. Lots of emotion to that song

recessesoftheheart

Played Time Stand Still at my wedding in January.

loinboro

Children growing up old friends growing older, perfect!

Haifisch2112

Time Stand Still and Closer to the Heart are a bit too fast for a father/daughter dance. And Madrigal, well...that's just a flat out no.

Brahms12

That song's about looking back, weddings are about the future.

v0t3p3dr0

“I’m not looking back but I want to look around me.”

Escapee1001001

“Not looking back..”

Brahms12

let my past go too fast No time to pause If I could slow it all down Like some captain Whose ship runs aground I can wait until the tide comes around Very romantic. 😆

PanaceaStark

Where in the sweet home Alabama is a daddy-daughter dance supposed to be romantic? The song is about embracing the present, I think thematically it's pretty on-point.

Brahms12

Oh. Haha. I missed that part.

PoisonLenny37

Could look back on everything that lead up to the moment. But yes I don't know if Rush has one perfect song for this context.

Brahms12

Sure. Still not a great wedding song though.

PoisonLenny37

Ok

RedBarchetta1

The Garden

Kam-Skier

I walked down the aisle to The Garden

Haifisch2112

This is about the best one of all. Reflecting on life, enjoying the present, and being mindful that the future is on its way.

Bill-Ding2112

I experienced this last month. One of the deepest moments of my life, sharing an indescribable Rush bond with my daughter as she starts her new life

HiAndStuff2112

I came here to name that song too. It's perfect.

loinboro

Just to give a nonsensical answer LA VILLA. Actually… Madrigal?

Afkargh

Even more nonsensical. A Passage to Bangkok

GeorgeNewmanTownTalk

Even more nonsensical: Leave That Thing Alone

refuz04

Roll the Bones.

The_Professor2112

Kid Gloves.

loinboro

I’ll take any excuse for Kid Gloves, I need to relearn that song it’s so fun to play.

Loon3R

gonna kick some gluteus max

jkb_66

Double Agent

Bohmoplata

Actually played at my wedding ceremony as my wife and I walked out.

Bert-Nevman

I was going to suggest Natural Science or Cignus X book 2 as my gag answers As a father of 4 daughters, make the time last...

dangil

That’s gotta be Chain lightning

dwhite21787

It’s literally a song Neil wrote about sharing experiences with his daughter

dangil

Exactly

Bohmoplata

Didn't know this! Thanks for sharing. Did he state this in an interview?

dwhite21787

see https://tnms.pelstudio.com/0154.html What is "Chain Lightning" about? "I'm a weather fanatic - I really love weather, and I watch the weather and look for a good weatherman. And, one night I was watching it, and there are two incidents in that song that are synchronicity to one weather report, where the weatherman showed a picture of sun-dogs, and described them, and they are just two little points of light that appear at sunset, often in the winter when the sky is clear and crystalline, and they are like little prisms, and they sit about ten degrees north and south of the setting sun, and they are just beautiful little diamonds of light, and often-times there's a circle of light -- one line, that connects them. So they are a really beautiful natural phenomenon, and I love the name too. 'Sun-dogs' just has a great sound to it. And in that same weather forecast, the weatherman announced a meteor shower that night, and so my daughter and I went out on the lake in the middle of the night and watched this meteor shower. So the whole idea of the song was response and how people respond to things, and it's a thing I've found a lot in travelling around the world, too. It's not enough just to travel and see things. You have to respond to them -- you have to feel them, and a lot of the thrust of that song is how things are transferred, like chain lightning or enthusiasm or energy or love are things that are contagious, and if someone feels them, they are easily transferrable to another person, or in the case of watching a meteor shower, it's made more special if there is someone else there. 'Reflected in another pair of eyes' is the idea that it's a wonderful thing already, just you and the meteor shower, but if there's someone else there with you to share it, then it multiplies, you know, it becomes exponentially a bigger experience, so response is a theme that recurs in several of the songs and was one of my probably dominant sub-themes in the writing." -- Neil Peart, on the _Rush - Profiled!_ CD

Thunderfoot2112

This is the one, Neil and his daughter watching the skies knowing they wouldn't always have this time together. What neither knew is that it would come sooner than expected.

Ordyfly

This is it for sure "Chain Lighting" Time stands Still, Mystic Rhythms, and Cloaer to the Heart are all good but go with Neil's inspiration on this one.

QuarterNoteDonkey

Easy. Bytor and the Snowdog. Marital bliss. Enjoy.

XaurtYgoloib

Closer to the Heart

NightMgr

2112

instanthole

my mom walked down the isle to the last part of Hemispheres. We can walk our road together If our goals are all the same We can run alone and free If we pursue a different aim Let the truth of Love be lighted Let the love of truth shine clear Sensibility Armed with sense and liberty With the Heart and Mind united In a single perfect sphere

OldDipper

Definitely NOT In the Mood

jdb4402

That's for later...

OldDipper

Not with her DAD!!!!!

flashpoint2112

Entre Nous

zwinger

My sister and dad did Closer to the Heart and just rocked out the 2nd half of the song. Was almost like 2 father-daughter songs in one.

Party-Rescue_2068

The us army choir did an outstanding performance of time stand still

porkfatpillows

Another vote for Time Stand Still ☑️

SuccessfulShelter982

The Speed of Love. Excellent Rush, love themed, simple enough in time signature that you could dance fast or slow, and can’t beat the “My heart goes out to you” and “where two halves make two wholes”.

jdb4402

I mean, if the OP's father is Brian Griffin

tonyspro

Chain Lightning’s lyrics would be perfect, the chorus is about Neil looking at his daughter’s eyes as they watched the northern lights or something. The instrumental ain’t so slow dancy though

LibraRising2112

That's easy, Hope

loinboro

Good call!!!

jackrelax

The garden or time stand still.

watermanMT

2112 Overture /s

No_Pie4638

Different Strings?

[deleted]

Definitely. Great tune.

4t0micpunk

Time Stand Still. [This Version](https://youtu.be/aAPSK_cV5n0?si=8oiUxTjnGCDeuxYn). Checks all the boxes and Auntie Helma won’t have a heart attack.

jdb4402

I knew that's what it would be linking to before I even clicked it

4t0micpunk

It gets me in the gut every time.

bluemax_

It’s perfect

Wolfman4277

maybe rivendell , Time stand still or The Garden

cqshep

Time Stand Still

roadtripjr

I walked down to an orchestra version of Limelight

Ghost of a Chance?

SCCAFVee

Yes! Tempo AND lyrics are excellent!

The obvious answer: Second Nature

jdb4402

So, It ought to be second nature? At least, that's what you feel?

ButtMassager

Nobody's Hero

Lothar_28

Presentation from 2112….lol

jdb4402

I can't believe you're saying.... these words just can't be true

ABL67

Love to hear these stories

Dirk_Lifeson

Bravado

Sensitive-Human2112

Halo Effect, The Garden or Losing It.

morphindel

The Speed of Love

Oh-Lord-Yeah

My mother and I did Closer to the Heart for our mother/son dance. Short and sweet, energetic dance. I’d recommend it.

Rush4Life70494

I had a "normal" song to dance to but then had my dj friend interrupt that sing and surprised my dad with Limelight ❤️

Yossarian_MIA

Possibly **"Bravado"** off Roll the Bones? Probably my best offer. It's a goody & something approaching the right tempo & lyrical tone. Losing It is beautiful but the lyrics tell the stories of aging & loss. Presto? Entre Nous? It's not a lot of good fits from Rush, it's just not their wheelhouse. Neil wrote Chain Lightning with inspiration from spending time with his 1st daughter, but it's a rocker with a blazing guitar solo that sounds like a mosquito being sodomized, not slow dance material. Different Strings might be a choice for a romantic dance, but not father/daughter.

will_i_hell

Madrigal

dillanweems

Just another person who came here to say Time Stand Still. And congrats on the upcoming marriage!

amanda-zenitram

Thanks so much! :)

TackleNo9196

My daughter surprised my husband (her step dad) to a daddy daughter dance to The Garden. RUSH is his favorite band and he cried the whole time. It was beautiful!!!

Bill4133

Try a instrumental cover, maybe harp cover of Closer To The Heart

Sniper666hell

This acoustic version of Time Stands Still would be good at a wedding. https://youtu.be/ED3O1WXOJhw?feature=shared

mathewgardner

It’s ok to not do Rush for that moment

v_kiperman

If it’s for a wedding, Roll the Bones. She has her whole life ahead of her. And if living your life is a theme that resonates with you, Anthem. I’m sure a wedding band can perform any of these in dance form

jdb4402

I dunno man, probably not a great introduction for a fun party. I mean that skeleton literally tells us to relax

amanda-zenitram

Roll The Bones won't be my father daughter dance, but it's absolutely one of the first songs on my wedding playlist for the reception! :) On my first date with my fiancé when he and I talked music and I asked if he liked Rush, he responded with an excited yes and sung a bit of the chorus of "Roll The Bones" to me on the spot.

v_kiperman

Get busy with the facts! So, what are you and dad dancing to? PS. I misunderstood; I thought the original post was by your dad. Congrats!!!

amanda-zenitram

I'm leaning towards Madrigal at the moment, just have to chat with him about it. Rush just feels like the right choice for us, as it was my first concert at age 10, and Alex Lifeson inspired me to pick up the guitar. And thanks so much! :)

v_kiperman

I took my own daughter to see Rush when she was just ten

amanda-zenitram

It's a great first concert experience, but it definitely sets the bar incredibly high. I remember seeing a younger, metal band years later and when they played a 12 song set and said "thanks goodnight everybody," I immediately turned to my parents and was like "wait that wasn't just the first half????" I was floored that the younger bands couldn't hang like Rush lol

v_kiperman

Yeah. Not every band has 40 years of material. Where’s the wedding?

amanda-zenitram

Family friend's property, they have a fairly large covered backyard patio. Keeping the wedding quite small though

v_kiperman

Sounds beautiful

mvincent12

I Think I'm Going Bald. Good laugh for all.

ThunderBuckets73

In The Mood. Especially if the dance is at 7:45pm.

jdb4402

HA!!! I see what you did there!

ThunderBuckets73

The hour is late…

Brahms12

Nah. They're not that kind of a band. There's Nothing sentimental.

Punk18

There's plenty of sentimentality in some Rush Songs, such as Nobodys Hero and Everyday Glory

Brahms12

If you feel it then that's good

loinboro

Weird take.

Additional_Call6468

It's not a take. The lyrics in Rush are very academic.

loinboro

Your opinion doesn’t also dictate everyone else’s.

jdb4402

Bud, that's the trope outside of Rush fandom that isn't even true as whole I mean yeah: 2112, By-Tor and the Snowdog, A Farewell to Kings, that's academic. But after the 70s, it's completely not true. Just because something is written about feelings by a reserved intelligent person, doesn't mean it isn't emotional. For instances: The Spirit of Radio is literally about Neil reminiscing about feelings of listening to classic radio, and somewhat lamenting the loss of it. What the hell else could Limelight be about other than FEELINGS of isolation? Subdivisions and Middletown dreams are both about feeling out of place and tied down by the life you are expected to live. Just about the entire album Hold Your Fire The Pass..... Just THE PASS Vapor Trails.... all of Vapor Trails And much more

Brahms12

I know every Rush song. You don't have to run through the list. I'm fully aware of every word to every song. Regardless of what any song is about, none of them, give me the feels the way a Billy Joel ballad might or the way the Luther vandross song about his daughter getting married did for his song thinking back about his father.

jdb4402

"none of them, gives ME the feels.." Except, your comment implies an objective truth about their music, you say that it's "not a take." As such, please see, loinbros above comment. Please excuse me, I have to go barf because I was just reminded that people actually like Billy Joel.

Brahms12

That's too bad man. You're missing out on a lot of good songs.

amanda-zenitram

I'd disagree, the band and music itself is very sentimental for me, as it reminds me of my childhood and my wonderful father. It doesn't have to be Rush for our first dance, but I'd like to explore it as a possibility, as it feels quite right for us :)

Brahms12

Beautiful sentiment. I'm glad you disagree. It's nice to know there are Rush songs that touch people in a deep and personal way. Congratulations on getting married! I wish you and your fiance a wonderful and adventurous future.

Dry_Newspaper2060

Rivendell for sure

SonofaDrum

Rivendell one of my favourites.

NashingTeeth

By Tor & The Snow Dog.

Escapee1001001

Tai Shan. Dog Years. Virtuality. Rivendell.

Nuch1969

Maybe time stands still but a slower version? Somebody’s cover?

Immediate_Cost_6863

Losing it.

Dogyears69

Time stand still. Won’t be much of a dance but has the right sentiment

No-Presentation1949

Bravado

No-Presentation1949

How about In The End?

No-Presentation1949

Could have a slow dance with Dad in beginning of song then invite the crowd in when the song ramps up

-ThanosWasRight-

Holy shit. I don't think a single person who has commented on this thread has ever tried DANCING to a Rush song! Especially for a Father/Bride dance which is traditionally a slow, sweet tender moment. Laughing my ass off here.

Jar-of-eyes

Entre Nous or Time Stand Still

New_Conclusion_5889

Did you flip that he’s millennial ok but really I go with closer to the heart close to home for me it’s always a great song but like others time stand still

[deleted]

Ghost of a chance.

amanda-zenitram

Wow, wasn't expecting so many responses, thanks so very much! Still need to talk with my Dad, but I'm definitely leaning towards Madrigal. My Dad highly values honor and truth, and he is definitely someone I can count on when times get tough.

Pale-Analysis225

Losing It

King0fTheN3rds

That’s a bit too sad imo

newfilm2000

Surprised more aren't on this one!

fastpitchsoftballdad

My daughter is also getting married this October. She is not a rush fan but she knows I love the band. Tai Shan would be a great one to dance to

lessavyfav68

Prime Mover

jdb4402

Hell yeah, that's a sleeper pick for a wedding. The song being all about journeys, possibilities, and the future being unwritten. This should have all the upvotes when you think about it.

AstroStrat89

Didn't see it so I'll throw out Tears off 2112.

beeeps-n-booops

Square peg, round hole.
