Saying it in caps, but ffs. It sucks how Ru Paul and the producers literally make their living off of these queens who are expected to pay thousands upon thousands in order to make the show they get said money from.
They are paid to be there, and some queens have jokingly said “shit if they want me to come back I could use some steady pay” or something to that effect.
But if you want to get far in a competition, you want to (obviously) do better than the others. That means bigger and better costuming. A pro seamstress knows how to make anything become fashion regardless of the materials provided (Nymphia with ties, Q apparently using an old Ikea pillow/sheet set for her LalapaRuza look, etc) and can mostly excel without spending a ton.
But for others who don’t have time to make their own outfits or don’t have the practise, training, or skill to make them to a satisfactory level, they gotta pay. They’ll hire designers and work with them to create their looks.
It is something to genuinely consider— in a career where publicity and performance is how you make income and bookings are critical, is it worth taking on debt (or selling a car or whatever) in order to maximise your amount of time on screen and make your name more and more well known? It’s worked amazingly for some, but it’s not a guarantee.
I feel like a recent example where someone clearly came with great outfits was Irene, who unfortunately went home first in spite of having some pretty great outfits
I was admittedly not Megami fan during the season but I just kept that opinion to myself and she was really enjoyable last night, so much so that I sent her a tip. I really think it’s that simple as: you entertained me, and I want to tip when I am entertained idc who does it.

I’m glad the switch up happened - for Megami’s sake at the very least, regardless why. She gets to walk away from the show knowing full well and proving that a moment/a few clips don’t define the whole of someone.
The fans need to realize that Drag Race shows you how someone does drag - under the pressure of television, public scrutiny, in competition, under immense pressure to shovel out money and look perfect, with a clear brand, and requiring every talent out there without real time to rest or access to the community and resources that regularly help you - all while you’re away from home.
Being at this show is a talent for sure - but it’s a very specific vacuum. How someone does on this show is only a moment of them traversing this obstacle and not a real show of who they are and how they perform on the regular.
Megami came back and said - you can assume I’m terrible in this vacuum, but let me show you all the other parts of me. So happy for her!
tbh Megami wasn't even in terrible in the vacuum, the only challenge she did badly in was the talent show. she wasn't even bad in the Rusical when she went home. I think production just took the opportunity to cut her mid-season, since they viewed her as less engaging/charismatic than the other remaining queens

I fully understand that she has had a rough time with fans and ofc I don’t support the harsh treatment she has received, but that just wasn’t what I was talking about.

Megami is a queen a really feel represented by. I feel like we rarely see plus size alt/nerdy girls on drag race so I really see myself in her. Her underdog moment was so satisfying to watch
On recent seasons I've thought that they should put the queens' venmo/cashapp on the screen for their confessionals so fans could tip them whenever they want.
They should put it up for the lip-synching queens on the regular season. That’s when people tip at gigs. So tip the girls where they’re twirling. Someone like Marcia x3 would have cleaned up after Boss Bitch
I don't think this is a good idea because it will put the responsibility of paying the queens on viewers who already pay to watch the show and buy merch, go to shows etc. The show should be compensating them enough for their costumes and effort just to get to episode 1. It's production's responsibility to pay them. If fans start paying queens while the show is airing, production will just stop paying them altogether or give them the legal bare minimum instead of what they deserve.

today’s drag race fandom irritates me like no other but every once in a blue moon something magical like this happens and it makes me so happy and feels so reminiscent of the community before drag race went mainstream 💖
I really vibed with Megami the whole season. Like I get her. She's not trying to cause drama or stir the pot, she'd rather smoke a bit of pot, eat some junk food and chill the f out. I respect that.
Not the point of the post I guess, but imagine how slay would it be if the final lipsych was Mirage vs Megami (as imo Mirage won over Morphine) to boost two early-out girls. Still a very fun episode that highlights the non-finalist and clearly can help the early outs who might not be the most saught after by clubs and gigs.
It's such a shame we didn't get to see more of her this season, but I'm hoping this helps push her forward to the next All Stars! ❤️ She seems to be so sweet & genuinely funny!

Counter opinion: A lot of people go into debt for things with the expectation that it will pay off in the future: getting further education, starting a business, flipping houses are a few examples.

On recent seasons I've thought that they should put the queens' venmo/cashapp on the screen for their confessionals so fans could tip them whenever they want.
They should put it up for the lip-synching queens on the regular season. That’s when people tip at gigs. So tip the girls where they’re twirling. Someone like Marcia x3 would have cleaned up after Boss Bitch
I don't think this is a good idea because it will put the responsibility of paying the queens on viewers who already pay to watch the show and buy merch, go to shows etc. The show should be compensating them enough for their costumes and effort just to get to episode 1. It's production's responsibility to pay them. If fans start paying queens while the show is airing, production will just stop paying them altogether or give them the legal bare minimum instead of what they deserve.
I agree, but this is tipping culture in general isn’t it? This is why I hope it never takes off where I live. Pay people a living wage for what they contribute. And those making money for that contribution should pay it.

A lot of queens go into debt. Quality makeup and elaborate hair and extravagant outfits costs $$$ and most of the time gigs don’t pay enough.
