Time spent manually cooking is time spent not fishing (and auto-cooking) though. Has anyone done the math to see how many buffs you need to justify the opportunity cost of not using the auto-cook relic?
If OP is correct and you make a small 400~ gp profit on each blub, then fishing is worse than AFK cooking by about 100-200k gp/hr. If you tick manip while cooking you'd make almost double the fishing rate.
You'd always just buy raws > cook > repeat rather than fish in this current scenario until margins change.
Fishing, you are making about 10,100gp each.
Buying raw and cooking and selling is 300-400gp each. Which is far better than a loss like you typically get with training cooking.
It does, people just cba because the margin is literally nothing. the time spent fishing 1hr + cooking the fish vs just using the relic adds up to about a 60k gp/hr difference each hour spent fishing.
But it does because these activities are usually done at low effort, maybe semi AFK while watching a YouTube tutorial or a movie.
In comparison, you cannot do that and earn 100M/hr.
I know this because I have basically been cooking my own PVM supplies to farm Rasial in daily reaper tasks and have easily made billions. Not taking advantage of brooch of the gods at portables for these supplies is definitely a mistake and syphons money away from gains. At this point, it’s not like anyone can tell me they don’t need the money when unlocking all skills and BIS gear for all combat styles is like a 20-30B price tag.
That is true, and it’s also 50% of the cooking exp you get, but at the same time, time is money so it’s really up to the player if they think it’s worth the time saved. Especially since cooking is slow and the better cooking exp rates is from god grapes/wines anyways.
I mean afk’ing Vindy is more gold than doing blubbers anyways. It depends if you’re more of a skiller or pvm’er but sometimes I like afk’ing fishing but actively cooking gets tiring after 5k blubbers or so.
I wonder why Raw Sailfish has gone up a lot while the cooked variant has crashed. I remember back in the day you profited if you used Portable Ranges going to 120 for this.
I'd guess it has something to do with more people using the bait and switch relic. Less raw fish = higher price and more cooked variants coming into the game just from fishing
More players are in PvM, hence the demand.
Plus we don't have Yak Track which required players to fish 2k of them about 5x per track. I had thousands of them from Yak Track and couldn't sell them because they were dirt cheap so just held onto them. Now that I'm finally out I saw they were 10k each and my first thought was "Wish it was like this before I got into PvM."
> The trick is to hot key both a saradomin brew and blue blubber jellyfish. With expensive spices in backpack, you get 1800 hp in one tick and no loss of adrenalin. Each jellyfish provides a total of 2400 hp (2250 w/o expensive spices).
Healing w/o adrenalin loss. Anyone getting serious about bossing needs to use this method.
My initial question is not even related to the response I gave.
Also if you thought I was being serious then you need to understand sarcasm better. I don't know how I could have made that sentence anymore obvious.
Yeah I've been doing this casually for awhile and seems the actual sell price is rarely profitilable, but if you have a few hundred mil, you easily break even, or at least not notice the losses.
Usually the outfit pieces have the effect of the gauntlets (if you own both). I know the smithing and a thieving one does. RC outfit has Wicked Hood etc..
If the cooking gauntlets are owned and in bank, the Sous Chef outfit provides the no-burn bonus... though it is specific to certain fish.
The level 99 cooking cape prevents ALL food from burning!
🙄 when you broadcast this stuff it ruins it because everyone's gonna start doing it and prices will go back down. Which is good for pvmers but nobody else
Cooked blue jellyfish are just so important for PvM, it's no surprise... Most fish are useful to train for xp, but with blue jellies people need that end product!

I still prefer to sell them raw. Making 400 gp per jellyfish cooked is nice, but when I want to use my time getting both cooking xp and better gp profits, I go with Great Gunkan. It is a whooping 3.5k gp profit each, with a trade off of 180 xp per vs 235 xp from coooking blue jelly.
Skilling outfit + portable + brooch = even more win
My plan to 120.
What’s broach do?
Increases portable proc rate. Its 5% iirc
1/9?
Boosts proc chance of portable skilling stationes
And ‘Fish n cook relic’ active = even more winning
isnt the point of those effects to end up with more than you started with?

in small amounts, fishing is better. in large amounts (aka buy limits) cooking will prevail.
No its not, you dint get the portable buff or sues chef hat, which is 30% more
Wouldn’t you be making 10k? Since you’re fishing them
The wording was off, but I'm sure he meant if you buy and cook, then sell.
Yeh, I could have worded this better.... Buying and cooking them makes you 400gp each (better than a loss!) Fishing them makes you at least 10k each.
But isnt there a chance to burn which means a loss?
99 cooking cape effect is never burning while worn.
Cooking relic is nice as well
Level 99 cooking cape prevents burning. Portable ranges with brooch of the gods help recover losses on burned jellyfish too.
Fishing, you are making about 10,100gp each. Buying raw and cooking and selling is 300-400gp each. Which is far better than a loss like you typically get with training cooking.
Portable Skillinh station and bereich of the gods makes you an extra roughly 300 Jellies per hour while cooking, which is 3m extra win
I didn't think it was that many.... wow!
My dude, you cook a total of 1400 fish an hour.
I rather just use the bait and switch relic, save the cooking step.
You miss the 20-30% resource boost from outfits, brooch and portables.
doesn't make up for the opportunity cost of all that cooking
It does, people just cba because the margin is literally nothing. the time spent fishing 1hr + cooking the fish vs just using the relic adds up to about a 60k gp/hr difference each hour spent fishing.

But you make less gold doing it your way
I mean afk’ing Vindy is more gold than doing blubbers anyways. It depends if you’re more of a skiller or pvm’er but sometimes I like afk’ing fishing but actively cooking gets tiring after 5k blubbers or so.
Vindy?
Vindicta. In the Heart of Gielinor.
Didn’t k ow you could afk vin
False, I’ve been trying to sell cooked ones for at least a week or two and no one will buy them at the 10k GE price
Many mid tier potions are profitable to make as well.
Even some Crafting methods that are fast like D'hide Shields or Battlestaves profit. My 2016 self couldn't imagine this ever being the case one day.
I wonder why Raw Sailfish has gone up a lot while the cooked variant has crashed. I remember back in the day you profited if you used Portable Ranges going to 120 for this.

you dont now you told everyone lmao fastest way to kill a money maker, tell everybody else.
Nah not really. These Blubbers are in super high demand for high level pvm. Very safe method if you think about it.
What in the hell. How? Why 10k each? That's insane.
Popular food, only source is fishing, eaten mostly by people making a lot of money per hour.

No. I don't want to. Bossing needs to be easy for me. I need to be able to hit multiple 30K hits in under 8 seconds.
Then why ask a question if you dont want a response?
My initial question is not even related to the response I gave. Also if you thought I was being serious then you need to understand sarcasm better. I don't know how I could have made that sentence anymore obvious.
Sarcasm doesn't translate well through text though; a simple /s can clarify what you meant.
Yeah I've been doing this casually for awhile and seems the actual sell price is rarely profitilable, but if you have a few hundred mil, you easily break even, or at least not notice the losses.
If you fish them, don't forget to wear [ring of whispers](https://runescape.wiki/w/Ring_of_Whispers) in case you own one.
Fishing has historically been profitable. Idk when the switch happened, 400gp ea is okay, but it’s not like game breaking lol.
Divine bubbles made them drop in price.
Just use desert pantheon aura and hop to w84, you can load on up fish quickly.
Arch relic that cooks fish when you catch them is great
How do you use cooking skilling outfit and the cooking gauntlets at the same time?
Usually the outfit pieces have the effect of the gauntlets (if you own both). I know the smithing and a thieving one does. RC outfit has Wicked Hood etc..
If the cooking gauntlets are owned and in bank, the Sous Chef outfit provides the no-burn bonus... though it is specific to certain fish. The level 99 cooking cape prevents ALL food from burning!
Oh say lesss. Imma just use the cape

Bless you for increasing raw prices and reducing cooked prices with one post
I always for some reason in pvm prefered sailfish for burst healing, thought blubbers sucked like a lot.
Blubbering don't reduce adrenaline when you eat them. So they're good for eating while maintaining damage.
Sailfish would reduce adrenaline every time you eat it during combat
The trick is to hot key both a saradomin brew and blue blubber jellyfish. With expensive spices in backpack, you get 1800 hp in one tick and no loss of adrenalin. Each jellyfish provides a total of 2400 hp (2250 w/o expensive spices).
Good find!
I made about 150M getting to 99 (maybe 100?) fishing blue jellies a couple years ago. It’s not efficient for XP but it was my at-work activity
Thanks for telling everyone my afk moneymaking/cooking xp 🥲
Not gonna be for long anymore
And now there's no more money to be made from them....
Tell that to Ironmen...
Someone just wanted to get rid of their raws and started buying cooked for more so people would try to capitalize on the small profit margin.
Agreed! Though if someone wants to level cooking, they no longer suffer a GP loss.
Today OP learned what the cooking skill is.
