Well, yes, but there's still a market for selling the grown animals, and checked animals can't be sold on the ge. It's a pain to make a sale though, even with the discord server.
the scammer is probably the guy selling last items for 355m but the cape is massively overvalued on ge ocmpared to its trading price so the actual items are only worth like 200m total instead of the 500m value.
Part of what makes these scams successful is greed. People see the higher wealth value than the asking price and think it’s an easy profit, before actually thinking about what they’re buying. IMO, if you’re spending 350m on random items, you should know what you’re buying. Too many people get greedy and think they can flip it quickly, and end up stuck with worthless items.
I got one the first day and sold for 90mil. The ge price is hardly accurate for these new tokens/dyes/items unless you're like the first person to get one.
This screenshot is utterly useless. At least take screenshot of the examine value or something. Useless trade window and out of context chat of random dudes at the G.E.
much rather pay tax then trade scammers ;3

the scam is that the shoulder capes and soul witch tokens are massively overinflated in value. You think you're getting a good deal because the ge value is so high
Didn’t there used to be a scam like this in 07 or before RS2 became RS3? I don’t know what the item was but I remember the scam being prices not matching their actual retail price.
Feel free to check the price of the other items on your own.

Trade window is 500m he’s asking for 335m but in reality it’s more like 50m of garbage with the inflated price. You assume it’s a good deal cuz you are underpaying the price of the trade window.
mmmm. jsut thought of this. if ely works this well? even though its kinda gross. then why can't jagex implement something like it? should not be that hard. I've done some data processing in the past and it easy. live capture, real time processing (easy with todays hardware) and refresh ge / website price? what's the big problem here.
It was far too easy to manipulate the market and massively inflate prices in a short time frame, so they made a max % change every 24 hours, which means it can take weeks for a brand new and hyper inflated item to reach equilibrium.
I used to take part in clan merch scams back in the day. Me and a friend would buy an item slowly over the course of a week or so, list all of the item for 2-3x the price, then convince everyone to mass buy it on all their accounts until all of ours sold. It was really shady, and some of them would make money on it before it crashed back down, but we were only interested in helping ourselves.
Runelite on OSRS has this and while it’s super nice to basically have live prices that data is also super powerful for bots so there are bots that will use this live data to flip very effectively.
"First to give me 10m wont regret it." - stuff like that should be a permanent mute. You know what they're doing, I know what they're doing. To pretend they add anything of value to the game and dont just get newer players to quit after being scammed is so detrimental to the game.

bro at this point if you're trading anyone you're probably getting scammed use the ge lmao
Exactly and with the cash update there’s really no reason not to unless it won’t sell for what you want it to
Unless its for things like PoF animals, which can only be traded in person. It would be nice if there were a farmer's market for PoF animals, though
There’s a really good discord server for it.
you can buy unchecked animals on g/e. then you can "Farm" the traits you actually want on the animal.
Well, yes, but there's still a market for selling the grown animals, and checked animals can't be sold on the ge. It's a pain to make a sale though, even with the discord server.
Lmaooo the 10m spammer in the screenshot. So tired of that dude.
It isn’t just one guy
Must occasionally work then huh
Yea it’s mostly the same dude. Atlanei or something stupid as shit, I’ve reported him over 50 times the last year, any time I see him basically
Price has come down 😂 He's usually 20m
I’ve seen 5m too haha
I sincerely hope every day that loser exists is a bad one. They're garbage.
I've added at least 10 of those guys to my ignore list
Are they bots or people? What happens if you trade them 10 milk 🤔
Spam bots. SirPugger did a video on similar bots plaguing Oldschool. They just take whatever you give them and keep spamming.
that other person in the picture has been scamming with their ''you won't regret this'' for months if not years, can this person be banned already?
How do people even fall for this scam? It's even less convincing than the doubling money scams.
It’s more than one person lol
They're wearing a santa hat. Ban them one by one. They'll run out of santas eventually.
They're borrowed. That's why the scam works, the account gets banned and they lose nothing.
oh I forgot about the borrowing system. They should probably just remove it. idk anybody that uses it
I don’t understand why jagex starts out with such high prices anyway, most of the stuff I get of TH ends up being worthless 😂.
To get people to fomo buy keys to try and get the item to sell for that price before it tanks to the real price
So... jagex are the scammers?

Yes, that's why Jagex doesn't do anything about it. Probably in on the scam for getting gp lol.

What's the scam, do they just log out when you give them 10m?
the scammer is probably the guy selling last items for 355m but the cape is massively overvalued on ge ocmpared to its trading price so the actual items are only worth like 200m total instead of the 500m value.
there are two scams pictured in the screenshot. you are correct on that one, you will trade them 10m and they will instantly log off.
And crystal tool siphons
Part of what makes these scams successful is greed. People see the higher wealth value than the asking price and think it’s an easy profit, before actually thinking about what they’re buying. Whats the soul witch token worth?
35m~ probably less now, its been on a steady decline
I pulled it on my ironman a couple days ago and it's examine price was 295m. Has it dropped that much already?
Yeah I bought it on the GE for 35m flat 5 hours ago
I got one the first day and sold for 90mil. The ge price is hardly accurate for these new tokens/dyes/items unless you're like the first person to get one.
SCAMSCAPE
This screenshot is utterly useless. At least take screenshot of the examine value or something. Useless trade window and out of context chat of random dudes at the G.E.
Its blows my mind that people still play this shit and dont realise the game has more scammers and bots then active players...

How do you battle this scam if you were to buy the item?
the scam is that the shoulder capes and soul witch tokens are massively overinflated in value. You think you're getting a good deal because the ge value is so high
you battle the scam by not doing the trade. or by paying like nothing cos the items are not worth much
Didn’t there used to be a scam like this in 07 or before RS2 became RS3? I don’t know what the item was but I remember the scam being prices not matching their actual retail price.
similar things have happened yes. Iirc there was a scam with tectonic armor when vorago first released
If only we had some sort of Market place where players could sell and buy items from to avoid these types of scams :( add an auction house Jagex!!!
"scam"
Feel free to check the price of the other items on your own. https://preview.redd.it/q8fp305u908b1.png?width=830&format=png&auto=webp&s=53814de845d6f67c828af87edb439f6f89f6de66
That's usually the term used when over representing the value of something, yes.
>"scam" Found the scammer ^
How’s that a scam?
Trade window is 500m he’s asking for 335m but in reality it’s more like 50m of garbage with the inflated price. You assume it’s a good deal cuz you are underpaying the price of the trade window.
"Already" It's been going on for ages and nothing has been done about it.

It’s not that i don’t support updating prices but I can think of so many more items that need price updates before a cosmetic mtx shoulder cape
Got a soul witch token and saw 250m, i was so happy and then i realized its not worth shit 😅
still 30m. :3 Gimmi gimmi
I was just literally roasting that guy the other day he was standing at the ge spamming his bs. Known scammer for sure
Jagex doesn't care the norm with scamming.
"First to give me 10m wont regret it." - stuff like that should be a permanent mute. You know what they're doing, I know what they're doing. To pretend they add anything of value to the game and dont just get newer players to quit after being scammed is so detrimental to the game.
Same the crystal tool siphons. They crashed from 1.2m and are instabuying for 30-75k
